Heatstroke and heat exhaustion

As we’ve been treated by this lovely weather this week I just wanted to add a quick reminder of how quickly your little ones can get heat exhaustion and heatstroke. The signs and symptoms for quick checks are on the photos attached. Let’s be prepared for the summer days together ☀️

Father’s Day Stay and Play

Thank you to all of those lovely Daddy’s and grandads that were able to attend the Stay and plays sessions. What a turn out! We couldn’t have asked for better, the dads were on their best behaviour’s and got stuck right in with the messy activities. We all hope you had fun because we really enjoyed seeing you and I know the children loved having you in.
Hopefully we will be doing more events like these in the future.
Once again thank you from all of us here at the Mighty Oaks team.

Healthy lifestyle week

Week beginning Monday 19th will be healthy lifestyle week. During this time your child will take part in a variety of planned lessons and activities helping them to learn and understand the importance of eating a balanced healthy diet and the effects exercise has on their bodies.

We will be taking part in a daily steady run/ paced walk around the school field.
Weather permitting and rest assured this will not be done in the heat.
We are asking if you could kindly put your child in sensible footwear to do so and have a sun hat with them.

As we are being treated with such wonderful weather this week, can I remind you all to send in sun hats, labelled with their names would be great to help us.
You can send in sunscreen especially if your child does full sessions. If you have popped it in their bags let us know and we’ll place it in a safe area in nursery.

If you do not give your permission for us to apply the sunscreen to your child please let us know and we can arrange a time for you to come in and do so yourselves.
Thank you for understanding, let’s have a great day ☀️

Governors involvement from the Curriculum committee

The Curriculum committee meets every half term and yesterday governors thoroughly enjoyed listening to a group of year 3 children sharing French songs and confidently sharing their extensive knowledge on the geography and culture of France.

Governors were also super impressed with how articulately another group of children from across the school, could talk about physical and human geography. They explained how they use their skills and equipment to carry out tasks. Governors were happy to hear them talk about trips they had been on and the use of such technical vocabulary. Children were proud to share their geography books with governors, which clearly show progression from year 1 to year 6. Governors look forward next time to talking to mathematicians across the school.

Health and Safety Governor Committee Update

Governors met on Friday 26th May as part of the Health and Safety committee. They spoke to children in year 3 and 4 regarding the behaviour systems used across our school. It was clear to Governors that the children like the systems we have in place and believe them to be fair. The children could clearly see the benefits of following the BeSMART code.

The governors also spoke with the site manager, Mr Thomas. They asked him about the checks he carries out linked to site safety/maintenance, water safety, road/ traffic management and electrical safety. Governors were satisfied that his understanding of policy and procedure is robust and that his training is of a high level.

Nursery sports day

It’s that time of year again when we start planning for sports day.  The nursery sports day will be held on Thursday 13th July, weather permitting.  Ladybugs will be participating at 10.00-10.30 and again at 2.00-2.30. Mighty oaks sessions are at 10.30-11.00 and 2.30-3.00.  This will be held on the top field where the astro turf is.  To access this area the gate near the mighty oaks play area is unlocked just before the sessions start.  The children usually dress according to their colour group, for example, if your child is in blue group they may come in with a blue hair bobble or T shirt.  All children will need sensible shoes for running in such as trainers.  If it’s a warm, sunny day please apply suncream and send in a named hat for them to wear.

If your child does not attend on a Thursday you are still welcome as long as you stay with your child.  Just meet us on the field at the correct time.  Any questions please get in touch with your child’s keyworker.

Thanks in advance for your support

Goodbye for now

Becky Fenn, who is mostly stationed in ladybugs, as some of you may have guessed, is expecting a baby.  Her last day in nursery will be Friday 26th May.  I’m sure you’ll all join me in wishing her well and we can’t wait to meet her new bundle of joy.  If your child is in her key group you will be informed of their new keyworker.

Exciting times!
