Evidence me photos

Good morning all Newdalers. Well the weather certainly didn’t disappoint last week and it’s clear to see from your observations that you made the most of it.

You have accepted our challenges from your baking, portraits and phonics play.

It’s so nice to see family values and celebrations going on in your homes still in these unfortunate times we are going through. Happy Ramadan to those that are celebrating, happy birthday to the girls and boys getting older and taller. Well done on the mile stones you are achieving from riding your bikes without stabilisers, writing and reading words, counting and sorting beyond what you thought you ever could, solving problems set by your parents to the physical obstacles in your gardens that you raced around negotiating space with ease.

Stay safe, be happy you are all doing a great job.

Now here’s the evidence for us all to see, some super action shots in these.

Monday’s phonics challenge

Hope you’ve all had a great weekend.

Your challenge for Monday is to make a card, drawing or letter to send to someone your child cares about but is unable to visit at the moment.  They could include a drawing of themselves and their favourite activities at the moment.  Can you then encourage them to write their name on it (explain that this is so the recipient knows who it is from) using the correct letter formation?  I then would love them to add writing to their pictures by labelling what they have drawn, for example if they have drawn a fire engine they might write “f” or even further sounds they can hear such as  “fr en”.  It’s absolutely fine for them to write just what they can hear.  It would be great then if you could post their work, this gives children a real reason to write which is very motivating for them.

Friday’s phonic challenge

On a Friday we usually go over the phonics we have learnt that week and play a few games.  One of the games that has always proved popular is bingo.  This particular version is available on twinkle (this is a free website at the moment) and the game you are looking for is called “cvc bingo matching card game”.  Again, use the phase 2 level as this is most appropriate.  However, this only works with a printer.  You could instead though make your own version with your child, they could draw the pictures and write the letters.  You would need to make two boards (if you’re not sure how they should look just google the game even if you’re not going to print it).  The words include net, man, dog, tap and so on.

Have fun!

Nursery Numicon Challenge

Numicon:

Numicon is a teaching aid consisting of plastic tiles with holes which represent the numbers 1 to 10. They can be used to teach place value, ordering and calculation. Numicon are designed to make numbers real for children by them being able to see and physically touch each number.

Each Numicon shape provides children with a visual image of what a number looks like. A child will start to recognise the relationship between different numbers, as each Numicon piece has an extra hole to the last one.

As you may not have access to actual Numicon resources, I have attached a copy you can use as a paper template to print and cut them out. Once you get the hang of Numicon, you can make an activity as simple or as challenging as you wish.

So for our first challenge, we would simply like you to have a little play with them. We use Numicon in nursery already so your child may surprise you!

Next week I will be posting some ‘Numicon Challenge’ activities to support you.
