Update 25.11.20

Dear Parents/Carers,

You will have undoubtedly have heard that unfortunately we have had our first positive case in Year 2.

One of the classes will be required to self-isolate until the 8th December. We have been working very hard with the Health Protection Hub looking at contact tracing.

All parents of children who are required to self-isolate alongside this class have now been contacted or will be contacted this afternoon.

Please remember…

The most common symptoms of coronavirus (COVID 19) are recent onset of:
– A new continuous cough and/or
– High temperature and/or
– A loss of, or change in, normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)
For most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness. Most people with coronavirus have at least 1 of these symptoms.
If your child does develop symptoms, you can seek advice from NHS 111 at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/check-if-you-have-coronavirus-symptoms/ or by phoning 111.
How to stop COVID-19 spreading
There are things you can do to help reduce the risk of you and anyone you live with getting ill with COVID-19
Do
– Wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
– Use hand sanitiser gel (with 60% alcohol) if soap and water are not available
– Wash your hands as soon as you get home
– Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
– Put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards

Spellings and times tables

Don’t forget that you can also practise this weeks spellings and times tables at home too.

Spellings

This week in spellings we are looking at contractions.  A contraction is a word that has been shortened from combining two bigger words. An apostrophe is a punctuation mark used in the place of letters taken out of a word.

Can you spot the contractions in this video?

A copy of the spellings can be found here:

Contraction spellings week 4

Times Tables

A game we play at school to practise our times tables is Hit the Button  https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button

Alternatively you could complete one of the worksheets below.

x2 sheet x3 sheet x5 sheet x 10 sheet

If you have forgotten which times tables you are working on then please email Mrs Thomas or Mrs Horler on newdale.year2team@taw.org.uk

Year 2 Home Learning continued – Wednesday 25th November

For Maths today we will be practising some mental addition.  You did an activity like this in class yesterday so you should remember what to do.

You will need a dice to play this game but if you do not have one at home you could use this online version https://www.teacherled.com/iresources/tools/dice/

Simply roll three numbers and then add them together.  To add them together you should put the larger number in your head and then use your fingers to help you to count on.  You can use jottings if it helps too.

T-N-4969-Three-Dice-Addition-Game_ver_1

Record your number sentence using + and = symbols, for example if you roll 4 and 2 and 5 you would write 5 + 4 + 2 = 11

CHALLENGE: Once you have completed your dice addition game, have a go at this challenge:

You can submit your work to us on the homework blog or email us directly on newdale.year2team@taw.org.uk

If you require paper copies to complete this work then please contact the school office on 01952 387720 and they will be able to provide you with these.

Update for Yr 2 parents

Dear Parents/Carers of children in Year 2,

Thank you for your swift response this morning to our ongoing situation in school. Our Year 2 teaching team are busy setting up plenty of tasks for your children to complete at home. You will need to access direction from them through the school website on the Year 2 page.

We are following our protocol and taking full advice from the professionals at the Health Protection Hub. This of course will take us a small amount of time.

Please do not panic, we are one of the very few schools that have not had a positive case until now.

I will be in contact with further details very soon.

Thank you for your understanding.

Christmas at Newdale

This year Mrs Christmas would love to come and visit our wonderful children and spread some Christmas magic to cheer everyone up after what has been a whirlwind year. The exciting thing about this year’s visit is that she will be bringing MR CHRISTMAS along too! Rudolph is sadly unavailable as he needs all the rest he can get before the big day.

Due to the current situation we are still planning carefully how we can offer this wonderful experience to your children, whilst keeping them safe. Watch out for more information closer to the time…………..

Children will be allowed to wear their Christmas jumpers on numerous occasions between now and the end of term – further information to follow.

Update 11.11.20

Dear Parents/Carers,

Just a quick note to say ‘thank you’ for the efforts everyone is making to keep our site Covid free. We are delighted in the response we have had to the request for all parents to wear face coverings on our site.

As you will undoubtedly of heard, there are relatively high numbers of Covid in Telford and therefore we continue to operate strict hygiene and ‘bubble’ systems in school. Adult to adult transition holds the highest risk and with your help we are managing to keep everyone safe.

I continue to carefully analyse the advice we are given as schools and update our risk assessment accordingly.

Kind regards,

Miss Cook

Lost Property

We have a large number of coats without children’s names in our lost property.  On Tuesday morning (10th November) we will place the coats on the picket fence on the playground for parents to check through.  We will space them out to adhere to social distancing but ask that parents also try to maintain a safe distance.

Please note only coats will be taken out tomorrow, however we will look at introducing other items in the future.

If it is wet outside please note that we will not be taking the coats out.

Thank you
