Keeping Children Safe

Newdale’s Safeguarding priority is to ensure that our school community is a place where everyone feels they belong and that they feel safe.

We all have a responsibility to keep our children safe: in school and at home. Everyone who comes into contact with children and families has a role to play. It is important that we all know what to look out for, know why children can be vulnerable and how they can be manipulated into harmful situations and exploited.

We know that reading information about safeguarding can sometimes be an uncomfortable read, but it is vital that we all know of the ways we can keep our children safe and how to act should there be any concerns. This short guide shares some information about contextualised safeguarding (within our community), signs to look out for and pathways for support and reporting.

Contextual safeguarding recognises that the different relationships that young people form in their neighbourhoods, schools and online can unfortunately feature violence and abuse. It is our responsibility to ensure that we are protecting children within our community from harm.

Within this guide, we have included useful links for parents and carers to help offer extra information as well as routes for support if needed.

Many thanks

Miss Cook

Halloween Event

Dear Parents/Carers,

We will be holding a Halloween School Event on Friday 25th October after lunch. Children must come into school in their school uniform. They will then be able to change into their Halloween outfits or simply dress down after lunch (please label all items). Staff will be running a disco in the hall and carrying out Halloween fun events in the classroom. Children will go home in their outfits.

We appreciate that not all parents want their children to take part in Halloween events. If that is the case, please do let your child’s teacher know through the home school communication book. We will prepare something non-Halloween themed for them to enjoy.

Due to the Y6 trip and Y5 swimming on this day, they will have their Halloween event the day before on Thursday 24th October.

Kind regards

Miss Cook

Macmillan Charity

Dear Parents/Carers,

We will soon be announcing the final figure raised for Macmillan following the Wrekin ‘Climb Against Cancer’ event and more recently the Grandparents’ tea party.

Our ‘Go fund me’ page will stay open until Thursday evening should anyone like to contribute that has not had a chance to do so. Newdale Primary School and Nursery is fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support (justgiving.com)

We will be presenting the money to Macmillan during a special assembly on Friday and will then send out information to all parents.

Thank you so much for supporting our events. We know that the money raised will go towards supporting so many people that are affected by cancer in our town.

Kind regards,

Miss Cook

Finance & Personnel Committee Governors Involvement

Finance and Personnel Governors met last week. They looked carefully at the costs associated with the high levels of special educational needs within the school and were pleased with the provision on offer. They studied in detail the Summer term parent survey and were again pleased in reading so many positive responses. They focused on development points and were reassured that telephone calls had been made and actions taken where appropriate. Next time the Governors will continue looking at SEND provision across the school.

Grandparent’s Tea Party – tomorrow

  • We may have Shropshire Radio joining us who may ask to interview some grandparents during the event.

We look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!
