Numicon Challenge

Last week I posted support in using Numicon at home and attached paper templates. I hope you enjoyed having a play with them.

So today, I have a little challenge for you. You can of course do this at your leisure.

Can you use bricks (stackable toys work well but you could use any toys) to represent the value of the Numicon?

My suggestion and example today is to use one piece of Numicon. How many ways can you use your bricks to show the same number? Can you touch count the Numicon for support?

I have chosen number 4.

Thursday’s phonics challenge

Morning!  Today I would like you to extend yesterday’s activity (pick a picture on phonics play) by creating your own words to go with real objects.  Please could you start by collecting some objects with very simple names such as hat, cup, pen, bag (you will only need about 4 or 5).  They need to be words in which each sound can easily be heard.  When you have done this ask your child to write each word on a slip of paper, help them to sound out each letter carefully using the pat and stroke the arm technique.  Once they have created a label for each object can you mix them up and see how quickly they can match them to the objects.

Thank you to everyone who has been sending in videos and photo’s of the challenges they bring a smile to my face!

Wednesday’s phonics post

Good morning everyone!

Your phonic challenge today is again to help children blend the letters in a simple word in order to read them.  It’s another great phonics play game, please select the game “pick a picture” at phase 2.  This gives the children a word on the screen and three possible objects.  Please can you help your child blend their sounds by tapping on their arm for each sound and then stroking it to blend them together.  I call this patting and stroking the dog!   It may seem strange but it seems to work.  If there are any unfamiliar letters please go back to Mrs Giodano’s post which shows the children the letter cards.

Have fun!

Nursery Activities Wednesday 29th April

Good morning nursery, it’s Wednesday already!

Did you create a rain maker or shaker yesterday? please send them in to us, we would love to see them and share them with you all.

The suggested activity for today is a fun game we are sure your children will enjoy; ‘Kim’s game’. See the attachment for details.

Make Your Own Rain Maker And Shaker Video

This morning, I have put together a little video to show you how to make your own rain makers and shakers for our suggested activity. They are so easy!

Of course you can use different resources, you can use anything you have access to.

I made mine in less than 5 minutes, but you can take as long as you like on yours, especially if you are decorating them.

Happy crafting!

Tuesday’s phonics challenge

Today’s challenge will help support your child’s reading by helping them to blend letters together.  Please find phonics play on the web and then input the username march20 and the password home.  Then select the game “dragons den” at phase 2 level.  In this challenge the children find out that the dragons eggs are mixed up and are unable to breathe fire.  In order to help them they must read the eggs and give them to the correct dragon.  They need to give the green dragon the real words and the red dragon made up words.  Good luck in helping the dragons!

Evidence me photos

Good morning all Newdalers. Well the weather certainly didn’t disappoint last week and it’s clear to see from your observations that you made the most of it.

You have accepted our challenges from your baking, portraits and phonics play.

It’s so nice to see family values and celebrations going on in your homes still in these unfortunate times we are going through. Happy Ramadan to those that are celebrating, happy birthday to the girls and boys getting older and taller. Well done on the mile stones you are achieving from riding your bikes without stabilisers, writing and reading words, counting and sorting beyond what you thought you ever could, solving problems set by your parents to the physical obstacles in your gardens that you raced around negotiating space with ease.

Stay safe, be happy you are all doing a great job.

Now here’s the evidence for us all to see, some super action shots in these.
