Mrs Bishton is leaving Newdale

Dear Parents/Carers,

As much as I would like to retain all members of the fabulous Newdale team, unfortunately I cannot!

It is with huge sadness, but also huge congratulations, that I have to inform you that Mrs Bishton will be leaving us at Easter.

Mrs Bishton has been successful in gaining a really exciting promoted post and I know you will join me in wishing her the very best of luck.

Mrs Bishton joined Newdale in 2007 and has spent the last 8 in the position of Deputy Headteacher. She has made a very significant contribution to so many areas of our school development and her experience in education will be gratefully received across very many other schools in her new role.

We have already put plans in place to ensure continued stability when she leaves.

Kind regards,

Miss Cook

Wonderful Wednesday

Next week the mighty oak children will start their Wonderful Wednesday activities on Wednesday 19th January.  Every week half of the children will go to the woods whilst the others cook.

Please send your child in old clothes and wellies.  They will also need shoes to change into when they get back to nursery.  If you are unsure which colour group your child is in please just ask at the gate.

In the morning red, yellow and green group are heading to the forest whilst orange, blue and purple group will cook.

In the afternoon orange, blue and purple group with be in the woods and red, yellow and green group will be cooking.

Thank you for your support

Recording LFT results

I apologise for any confusion yesterday on the text you received regarding emailing school your child’s LFT/PCR test results, unfortunately we are limited on the amount of words we can use and therefore text can be short.

Just to clarify:-

LFT Negative result – please record on the government website in your child’s name, no need to email the result to school.

LFT Positive result – please record on the government website in your child’s name and email a copy into school.

Returning to school following a LFT positive – LFT taken on day 6 and day 7 negative results emailed into school.

Returning to school following a PCR positive – LFT taken on day 6 and day 7 negative results emailed into school.

Many thanks for your co-operation

Update from Miss Cook

10/01/22

Covid update

As predicted, we are seeing numbers of positive cases of Covid increasing. As we broke up for Christmas, we had 4 positive cases. Today we have 16 positive cases (recorded since being back after Christmas).

The Omicron variant is highly transmissible and case numbers in Telford are doubling every 1 ½ to 2 days.

Although the rate of transmission is having a significant impact on the NHS in terms of admissions, emerging evidence suggests that overall people are experiencing milder illnesses.

We are gaining feedback from the vast majority of staff and parents, that the impact of Covid on health, is thankfully less than the Delta variant, so that is positive.

As I have stated previously, we take advice from the Health Protection Hub, who in turn take advice from the national guidance which is Government led. The next review is the 26th January so it is likely that we will see yet more change following this.

I just want to clarify for parents some key points currently:

  • A day 6 and day 7 negative LFT test is required (24 hours apart) for children to be allowed out of isolation and back to school. Please don’t risk it and send them back unless you are absolutely sure.
  • It is now recommended that the response to a single case in a class is to request 7 day LFD testing for the other children in the class. We understand this is not only a pain when looking at testing our youngest children and more nervous children, but also tricky as testing kits are becoming more and more difficult to find. It really would help us keep the transmission rates at a manageable level if you could do this please.
  • We will let you know if your child has been identified as a close contact e.g. sits on the same table as the positive case.
  • From tomorrow, people who receive positive lateral flow results for COVID-19 following testing when they have no symptoms, will be required to self-isolate immediately and won’t be required to take a confirmatory PCR test. People with symptoms must continue to book a PCR test.
  • Attention to ventilation, face coverings for staff, regular testing for staff, hand washing, hand sanitizing are all continuing as before.
  • We are still unable to invite parents into school. Any essential visitors e.g. staff carrying out referral assessments are required to bring proof of a negative LFT on arrival.
  • We are still carrying out some trips out of school, again following robust risk assessments. Part of the risk assessment is that anyone travelling on a coach must wear a face covering. If this is an issue, please contact the office for further advice.
  • We have produced a detailed risk assessment for e.g. the continuation of part mixing children to carry out phonics teaching. Staff follow this risk assessment so that we can continue to deliver high quality phonics teaching at the correct pitch and pace for all of our children.

We are ever optimistic that we will all be in a much better place with managing Covid come the spring. Until then, we need to continue to work together to keep Newdale open and operational for everyone. I know communication is really important, so will let you know of any changes that arise as soon as we know of them.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

ASC/Nursery Invoices

Good Afternoon,

Unfortunately we are having issues logging into our online banking. We have been told  this should be resolved within ten working days.    Online payments made into the ASC/Nursery account in December can not be accessed by us therefore we are unable to  credit payments onto the January invoices.  This months invoices will be printed in mid January.

If you would like to make a payment before you receive Januarys invoice you are welcome to ring the office where we will be able to tell you how much your child’s/children’s fees for this month will be.

Parents who pay by child care vouchers are not affected and will receive their invoice on time.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Kind regards

4.1.22 Return to school information

Dear Parents & Carers,

Happy New Year! Let us hope that 2022 is a lot less stressful for everyone than 2021 seemed to be.

All staff are in school today completing a full day training programme on our new phonics scheme, Read Write Inc. After this, they will be completing final touches getting classes and lessons all ready to welcome back your children tomorrow. We are all looking forward to welcoming you all back!

As you will not have failed to realise, Covid continues to interfere with our ‘normal’ operations in school. It is important that we do all we can to keep COVID out of our school community and we ask for your support once again.

If your child is displaying of the main COVID symptoms (Loss of taste and / or smell, high temperature, persistent cough), they should isolate at home until a negative PCR test has been confirmed.  We would encourage you to be alert to the precautionary symptoms identified by Telford and Wrekin council and consider getting them PCR tested to rule out a possible COVID infection. Many of our most recent cases have come from pupils where there were no symptoms or where the symptoms were precautionary. More information on these can be found via Do you have main COVID-19 symptoms or other symptoms? – Do you have main COVID-19 symptoms or other symptoms? – Telford & Wrekin Council

To book a PCR test for you or your child, please visit

Get a free PCR test to check if you have coronavirus (COVID-19) – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

If your child has been identified as a close contact of someone who has tested positive for COVID and they are aged between 5 and 18 years old, you are strongly advised to take a Lateral Flow Test (LFT) every day for 7 days. By doing this, they are able to attend school provided no symptoms appear or a positive LFT is recorded. We are allowed to use our reasonable judgement in allowing your child to return to school.  You can order LFT tests online or by checking with a local chemist if they have stock.

To order LFT tests, please visit  Order coronavirus (COVID-19) rapid lateral flow tests – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) and to find where has LFT tests to collect, please visit Find where to get rapid lateral flow tests – NHS (test-and-trace.nhs.uk)

One of our greatest fears is staff absence due to Covid infections. Our staff will continue to LFT test at least twice a week, observe social distancing and wear face masks in communal areas. We will continue to use the control measures set out in the January 2021 guidance –

  1. Ensuring good hygiene for everyone
  2. Maintaining appropriate cleaning routines
  3. Keeping classrooms and teaching spaces well ventilated
  4. Following all local and national guidance, including that provided by our local Health Hub.

One of the last actions we want to take is moving year groups to remote learning.  Please rest assured this would be a last resort for us and if the case is that we need to move to remote learning, we have systems in place to allow this to happen with no interruption to learning.

We appreciate that there is a lot to take in and that guidance changes frequently. We will always put the safety, wellbeing and education of your children first and thank you for your continual support.

If you can get your children tested this evening or in the morning using a lateral flow test, that would really help us in keeping more control of the virus.

Kind regards

Last post of 2021

A look back at our last week before we break up for the holidays. We started the week of by finishing our Christmas cards and decorations ready to go home, then we made party hats for the party just in time for the festive celebrations to begin. Where we played party games and ate party food, probably too much !

I’ll end this message with a big thank you though out yet another tough year due to restrictions, but I hope that you can see that we’ve tried our best to keep things running and as normal as possible for your children to attend and come along to a full filled learning environment and most importantly have fun.

Wishing you a merry Christmas and happy new year from us all here at the Newdale nursery.
