Update 21.9.21

Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope you are enjoying this late in the season sunshine. I know the children are loving being outside and many are making great use of our new sports facilities!

In comparison to many schools we are coping well, by way of the number of positive cases we have. That said, we are definitely seeing an increase.

It is so important that you do not send your children into school if they are displaying any symptoms, including any of the precautionary symptoms listed by Telford and Wrekin Council. (Please see the following link Do you have main COVID-19 symptoms or other symptoms? – Do you have main COVID-19 symptoms or other symptoms? – Telford & Wrekin Council ) You need to keep them at home and get them PCR tested before risking a spread of the infection in school please.

If your child tests positive you need to make sure you inform the school as we also have to inform the health hub.  This is so that we can plan what actions to take in school.

We really do need to work together on this to prevent us having to reintroduce some of the more rigid procedures again.

Kind regards and fingers crossed,

Entrance to school off Rock Road

A reminder for parents/carers, the entrance to school off the Rock Road through our electronic gates is for STAFF only and is not to be used as a route into school to drop children off. There is also no pedestrian access allowed through this gate. Thank you for your co-operation.

Welcome back Mighty Oaks

The children have had a fantastic start back to Mighty Oaks , they’ve enjoyed exploring our investigation areas and the outside play ground.

On Tuesdays we are very lucky to have the cross bar PE coaches with us teaching the morning children lots of different activities and games.

If your child attends the morning sessions on Tuesdays, please can you make sure they have sensible footwear to join in and a little reminder to label their clothing and bottles.

Bike to School Week 2021 27th September and 1st October

Bike to school week is taking place between 27th September and the 1st October 2021.

It’s a great opportunity to celebrate cycling and scooting and the positive impact it has on children’s health and wellbeing as well as the environment.

We are very lucky to have bike sheds here at school and would like to encourage as many families as we can to bike or scoot to school that week. It is hoped that by biking to school, pupils will think about their journeys to school, understand the benefits of active travel, and consider the causes and effects of air pollution.

Happy cycling!

Harvest Festival

Harvest time is nearly upon us and as we have done in previous years, this year we will be collecting food items for Telford Crisis Support. The charity will be coming into school to see us in assembly on Monday 27th September to explain the work that they do. Following this, we would appreciate it if you were able to spare and send into school any food items (tinned or packaged and in date please) that you do not require. Please can children take the items to their classrooms and teachers will gather them together. The charity will collect the donations the following week on Monday 4th October. Thank you in advance for you help.

Welcome Back Message from Miss Cook – 10th September 2021

Dear Parents/Carers,

Wow! What a fantastic start to the new school year.

The children have settled in so well and are already enjoying the new routines and exciting things the teachers have planned. We simply could not have asked for a more positive start to the year. One of the highlights for the children has to be the fantastic new sports facilities that we have now. The main AstroTurf football pitch is already operational, and you may well have seen that the blue sports pitch is nearly finished. The children are trying their best to keep off the newly planted grass and will be able to play on the blue pitch after the final touches have been completed next week.

Just a few reminders:

  • We do not permit parents to use their mobile phones on site at any time for safeguarding reasons.
  • Year 5 and 6 children are permitted to bring in mobile phones to use in an emergency if they travel independently to and from school. These phones MUST be handed in to the teaching assistant as soon as they arrive at school. They will be locked in the office and then returned at home time. We do not take any responsibility for any mobile phones that are not handed in. All children in all other year groups should not have a phone on site unless discussed and agreed with the teaching team.
  • Year 3 children who are not registered as Free School Meals now have to pay for their dinners. If you need more details or believe you may qualify for Free School Meals, please call the office on 01952 387720.
  • Nail varnish and what we deem as ‘extreme’ hair styles are not permitted whilst the children attend school.
  • Small stud earrings are permitted, but should be removed on PE days. If this is not possible, they will be taped for PE in line with health and safety regulations. Please ensure all other types of earrings are left for weekend and holiday use.
  • PE kits – We are continuing to allow children to come to school in PE kits on their PE days. Please see the website or email your year group teachers for information around this and anything else to do with the lessons your children have.

Year Group emails are as follows:

Reception                                            newdale.yearrteam@taw.org.uk

Year 1                                                   newdale.year1team@taw.org.uk

Year 2                                                   newdale.year2team@taw.org.uk

Year 3                                                   newdale.year3team@taw.org.uk

Year 4                                                   newdale.year4team@taw.org.uk

Year 5                                                   newdale.year5team@taw.org.uk

Year 6                                                   newdale.year6team@taw.org.uk

If you have changed your contact details over the holiday, then it is very important that you let us know. In the unlikely event of an emergency, we need to be able to contact you straight away. Call the office and update if necessary.

You will all probably be aware that the Covid figures in Telford are the highest in the West Midlands at the moment. We thank parents who have kept children away from school if they suspect an infection and ask that you all please continue to keep a careful eye on your children’s health before sending them into school. We are continuing with many of our protective measures and we hope we manage to keep the virus out of our school.

Thank you for your continued support and fingers crossed next week is as positive as this one.

PE

We are excited to let you know that the nursery children are going to have outside PE sessions with sports coaches on Tuesday mornings.  The sports coaches are called Mr Stone and Mr Birch.  The nursery team will of course be accompanying the children and joining in!  Please ensure that your child is appropriately dressed for example trainers and jogging bottoms or leggings.  They do not need a PE kit and need to come dressed in their sporty gear to nursery that day.  We will post lots of pictures to let you know how much fun they are having.

Thanks for your support

8.9.21 Drop off/pick up changes

Dear Parents/Carers,

We are constantly reviewing our systems and have decided to alter the drop off and pick up arrangements slightly to hopefully improve things for everyone.

The queues of people outside of the main front gate, along the road are a concern for us and therefore we are going to allow people on site through the top gate and main gate more freely. The internal gates however will not open until the classrooms are about to open. This new system would at least allow people to wait for a short time on site, rather than on the busy road.  Nursery opens at 8.30am and school at 8.40am, so please do not arrive on site much earlier than this as it would then result in you waiting with other people.

It would help us if you encouraged/allowed older children to be independent and walk to class on their own please.

We ask you to be really careful around the school car parks at these busy times. We do have a number of blue badge holders who have permission to come onto site. Where possible, we have asked that they limit movement at key busy times from now on to help us keep everyone safe.

This new system will begin at pick up time today and as ever we will review and alter again if we deem it necessary.

Thank you for your continued support and patience.
