Eatwell project

Today some of reception took part in the eatwell project. We learnt how to cook pizza muffins. We learnt lots of great skills and it was really fun.
The children that didn’t cook today will be cooking the pizza muffins after half term :)

A visit from the fire service

Today we were extremely lucky for one of the parents to visit our school with his fire engine and two other firemen.
They talked to us about the role of a fireman or woman and the equipment they use. We even got to have a go at squirting water from the hoses and a sit in the fire engine.

Thank you so much to Freddie’s dad and the firemen for coming.

Base camp fun

This afternoon we spent our forest school session in base camp.
We had great fun taking part in a nature eye spy game, completing a winter checklist and making nature picture frames.

Shiver me timbers, it’s pirate day!

Reception’s police visit

This afternoon we were very lucky to have the police visit our school. We really enjoyed learning all about being a police officer, trying on some of the equipment and pressing the lights and siren.
Thank you so much to Freddie’s dad for coming to visit.

E-Safety Top Tip!

FIFA 20

Did your child have FIFA 20 for Christmas? Are you aware of all of the features accessible on this game?

FIFA 20 has a PEGI rating of 3 which means PEGI rate the game as suitable for all ages. HOWEVER, the PEGI rating does not take into consideration the risk of in game chat and you should be also be aware of in game purchases.

In-game purchases

Players can buy FIFA Points to purchase packs (additional players). In game purchases can range from £0 to £71.99. As with any game that allows in-game/app purchases, ensure you have set up passwords and/or limits on any payment details stored. There have been reports of children spending a lot of money using their parent’s payment details.

Chat

You should be aware that your child can chat to other players (with a headset) whilst playing this game and may be exposed to language or content that is unsuitable for them.

Play the game with your child, observe them whilst they are playing so you can monitor the sort of chat that they are listening to/contributing to. As always, show your child how to mute any abusive players and report any inappropriate behaviour and ensure that they know that they should talk to you or another trusted adult if they have any concerns.

Nursery’s Farm on Wheels visit

All the children got to see and enjoy touching some farm animals today including Helen the calf, daisy the duck, baa baa the sheep and some fluffy chickens.

Sporting achievement board

Lots of children take part in some wonderful, varied sports outside of school and we would love for them to celebrate their achievements with the other children and staff (no matter how big or small).  Mrs Goodwin has been busy creating an achievement board where children can share certificates, pictures or medals with a small write up about the event.  If you would like to send anything into school to be included, you can either pass on to the class teacher, or e-mail us at newdale.primary@taw.org.uk

Many thanks

Nursery Welly Wednesday

Unfortunately we are cancelling our forest session tomorrow (14/1/20).  Cooking will go ahead as planned.

E-Safety Top Tip – New Device?

Smart Phones
Did your child get a new smart phone for Christmas or are they using yours? Have you made sure that the correct parental controls have been set up to help protect your child whilst using the device?
Example controls include setting the device so only age appropriate apps can be downloaded and the ability to disable in-app purchasing (or don’t store your payment card details) to avoid any hefty bills.

Smart speaker
Have you invested in a smart speaker for your home? “Hey, Google” or “Alexa, play some music” may be your key commands now but have you set up the correct parental controls? For example, when using a supervised account on a Google nest, children can’t make purchases.
