World Book Day

We really enjoyed world book day. We read lots of fun stories and we sequenced the story ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. In the afternoon we had  a buddy from year 6 and we got to read to them and design a new book cover.

This afternoon reception went on our nature walk. We were looking out for gorse bushes, larch trees and holly.

These girls from Mrs Evans and Miss Taylors class, made us all feel so proud with their wonderful writing about plants.

E-Safety Top Tip! You Tube

YouTube: Restricted mode

Does your child use YouTube? Have you set up the restricted mode?

Restricted Mode (available on the website and app) allows the user to restrict access to mature or objectionable content. Childnet have produced a parent’s guide to YouTube Restricted Mode, which illustrates how it works and what you should be aware of:

https://www.childnet.com/blo g/a-parents-guide-to-youtuberestricted-mode

Remember that this mode may not be 100% effective. YouTube Kids may be a safer option for your family as it provides additional settings such as a content filter by age as well as providing a more contained environment.

Shrove Tuesday

Reception enjoyed making pancakes this morning but they enjoyed eating them even more. Yum Yum.
We linked our cooking to maths and measuring and we ensured we all followed health and hygiene rules.

Year 2 make delicious pancakes!

Today we have been reading the book Mr Wolf’s Pancakes so we thought it would be a great excuse to make our own pancakes. They were very tasty!

Wonderful Wednesday

We are planning to start Wonderful Wednesday on 4th March.

Red, purple and orange group will be in the woods in the morning followed by cooking in the afternoon.  Blue, green and yellow group will go to the woods in the afternoon and after cooking in the morning.

Please send wellies in addition to inside shoes and a warm waterproof coat.  If it’s cold a hat, scarf and gloves are very useful too.  Please ensure all items are named though so we can return misplaced items, thank you.

World Book Day

Dear Parents and Carers,

This year’s World Book Day will take place on Thursday 5th March.

As usual, we are all looking forward to seeing your child dressed up in costume as one of their favourite book characters. Teachers cannot wait to get involved too!

The World Book Day website has lots of ideas on how to do this with as much or as little effort as you would like. There are some excellent ideas to get you started: https://www.worldbookday.com/dressing-up-ideas-2019/ and https://www.worldbookday.com/ideas/dressing-up-gallery/

However, children are equally welcome to come to school in their pyjamas all ready for a bedtime story if they prefer – just remember to bring their favourite book too!

As always, your child will receive a £1 book token to spend on a FREE book, or to save £1 on another full price book of their choice.

Full details are available at www.worldbookday.com where you can see the fabulous books that are on offer this year.

Many thanks to those of you who have already sent in photographs of your children reading in all sorts of strange and wonderful places!

Happy reading,

Mrs Thomas

Literacy Coordinator
