Year 2 Home Learning – Tuesday 24th March 2020

Maths – Today we would like you to login to Purple Mash and spend some time looking at odd and even numbers up to 100.  You could play this game (which we have set as a To Do!)

Literacy – Look at the jumping orange word story that we uploaded on Monday 23rd March.  Can you write your own? Make it as imaginative and as silly as you would like! You could upload your story to the homework blog or email it to your teacher.

I have seen some fantastic Evidence Me observations and blog posts made by your families showing you doing some super work. Keep it up we love seeing them :)

Here are your activities for Tuesday 24th March.

If you don’t have access to a printer you can just do the activity on a piece of your own paper :) .

Activities

As I said last week we are going to try and send out suggested activities as often as possible.  Perhaps today you could sequence the story of “Handa’s surprise” this is available on the internet to watch.  The children could then go on to think about the order of their day, you could even draw pictures together and put them in them in sequence.  If they do draw a picture you could help them write their name on it, even if it’s just some of the letters or marks to represent it.

We released the nursery butterflies today too, so could the children go into their gardens or the park and look and see if they can spot a butterfly today, it could even be the nursery ones that we have looked after!

Evidence me

As I have already let you know we do intend to send some suggested activities via the website and would love to find out how you get on with them at home.  Everyone received the opportunity to use the evidence me app from January 2020 and this is the perfect way for you to show us photo’s of your children learning and having fun at home.  Please use this app if you would like to share their learning with us. For further information and guidance please visit http://help.evidence.me/parent-share/help-for-parents/

Home learning

In light of the nursery children being at home from the end of Friday 20th March I would like to send out some suggestions to keep the children entertained at home.

One idea that you might like to consider is keeping to a similar routine to the one they have in nursery.

In Ladybugs the children typically begin their day with some fun activities put out by the adult (perhaps you could set up their favourite games and toys at this time).  They then help to tidy it away, wash their hands and enjoy a healthy mid morning snack, typically a piece of fruit and something filling such as crackers and cheese.  Next, we encourage them to put on their own coats (this helps with independence) and we head outside.  Perhaps you could head to the garden, walk the dog or go to the park at this time.  On our return we snuggle up with a book and sing nursery rhymes together.  Now it’s time for lunch followed by an afternoon nap of an hour for those who still need it.  When we are wide awake we’re ready for an activity (we will send some suggestions) and then back outside for some well needed fresh air.  We’ll be hungry again by now so we have another snack and then take part in a listening activity.  We would then at this point end the nursery session.

For Mighty oak children we have a similar routine as above but in addition we fit in some number, letter and topic based activities.  These take place before our snack times. Again, we will send you some ideas to do at home.

Timetable for Parents

Dear Parents/Carers,

More information for key workers

Dear Parents / Carers,

We are still awaiting the list of who qualifies as a key worker. Thank you to all of those families who have returned their forms already.

We are now required to ask you what your partners job is, as we are being led to believe that in order to qualify for a school place, BOTH parents need to be in Key Worker professions. Please note that we may require evidence of the role you play and how that fits the description of a Key Worker.

Please could you return this information to school as soon as possible, if you have not already done so, to help us to continue to plan.

Thank you for your support

Important Coronavirus update – school closure to most pupils

Dear Parents/Carers,

Re: Coronavirus update – school closure to most pupils

As you will already know,  we have now been instructed to close the school to almost all children after this Friday, until further notice.

As advised by the government, we will do all we can to stay open for the children of key workers (e.g. NHS staff, police, others in frontline services) and children with certain needs.

We are waiting for the government to publish more information on what this means and exactly who this applies to. We will let you know shortly, as to how to let us know, if you believe your child falls into one of these categories.

All other children will need to stay at home, so we ask that you do not send your child into school from Monday onwards unless you have received notification from us.

Please note that this is a national closure – so while it is a challenging situation, we are not alone. We’ll re-open fully as soon as we can and will let you know when this is.

Home Learning

Your child’s learning is of course important to us, so we’ll continue to help your child to learn.

Teachers have been and continue to be very busy organising ‘Home Learning’ for your children.

Today there will be a suggested timetable sent out for you to use, clearly this is only for you to use if you would like to.

Your child’s teacher will inform you as to how communication will be managed. In the majority of cases this will be digital, but we know there will be exceptions and that will be arranged separately.

If your child usually receives free school meals we will also be in touch with more information about how we will continue to provide this, with support from a scheme that the government has just announced.

This is as much as we know right now and we appreciate your continued patience with as we deal with this ever-changing situation. We understand that this latest news will have an impact on you and your family and it’s far from ideal, but we’ll continue to keep in touch with any updates as the situation develops.

As you can imagine the office staff are under enormous pressure trying to answer as many questions as they can.

We will undoubtedly get a lot more information from the Local Authority today and in the meantime are very busy planning how our partial opening and home learning offer will operate.

We ask that you trust that we are doing our best under very difficult circumstances and that as ever, we have children at the centre of all of our decision making.

And remember: if you or your child feels ill and you want to know what to do next, please use NHS 111 online.

Thank you again for your continued support, and we will be in touch with more information when we can.

Wroxeter Roman City

Year 3 loved exploring Wroxeter which was once the fourth largest city in Roman Britain! We wandered around the remains of the bathhouse and explored a reconstructed town house from a city which was almost as large as Pompeii. We also discovered the daily lives of the people who lived here through their objects which were found at the site and on display in the museum.
