Sports Day

Parental attendance

We have made enquiries with the Health Protection Hub regarding the possibility of having parents attend our sports day events. Everyone is waiting to see what the Government decide to do with the June 21st possible easing announcement. The figures across the country are rising slightly and this is reflected in Telford.

We do not want parents to book time off work, only to find parents are not permitted to attend. We also understand that it would be unfair for both children and parents if we make a last minute announcement. Some parents would then be unable to rearrange work to suit at short notice, and then children would feel upset that other parents were there but not their own.

As a result of the uncertainty with lockdown, the complexities around parents getting time off work and the rising virus figures we have made the difficult decision to say that for this year, parents will not be permitted on site to watch.  What we can guarantee is that the children will partake in sports day and have a lovely time and we will of course be posting lots of photos of them enjoying themselves. I know a lot of parents will be disappointed in this decision, but ultimately we need to go with what is safe.

Parent Information from Monday 24th May 2021

Dear Parents/Carers,

From Monday 24th May wearing a mask on site will not be compulsory.

We were blown away by the amount of responses we have received (over 200). We have carried out the draw and the 3 lucky winners will receive a text messaging congratulating them on winning. Now we have all the surveys in, we will spend quality time analysing them and will share feedback with you soon. Thank you again for continuing to support our school and be part of how we make it even better.

Update on air quality

Update on air quality 14.5.21

Dear Parents/Carers,

We have been given information about air quality around the site of the fire and around our school site.

The monitoring station has been placed on our site and therefore it really does give us a clear picture as to what is going on.

The station was only set up for reassurance reasons. We have always been clear that although the smoke is unpleasant, it is not harmful.

As expected, initial results from tests on air quality around the site have shown that levels of pollutants are ‘low’ and therefore the risks to health are ‘low’. The Fire Service have also confirmed that no asbestos has been found to date at the site. There was only a slightly higher reading on one day whenever there was increased activity on the site.

AIR POLLUTION BANDING VALUE ACCOMPANYING HEALTH MESSAGES FOR AT-RISK INDIVIDUALS* ACCOMPANYING HEALTH MESSAGE FOR GENERAL POPULATION
Low 1 – 3 Enjoy your usual outdoor activities. Enjoy your usual outdoor activities.

Health advice for these levels is minimal and the health advice from Telford & Wrekin Council and Public Health England remains unchanged, to avoid the smoke if possible and keep windows and doors closed as a precautionary measure.

We are continually monitoring the situation in school and closing windows and doors for periods of time if the smoke levels increase. Clearly we are conscious of the ventilation needed to reduce risk of the virus and making sure we manage both effectively.

I felt it important to pass on this useful information to you.

Have a great weekend.

Update 14.5.21

Dear Parents/Carers,

As you know, we keep our eye on any guidance that is coming out from the health experts and the local authority. Yesterday more guidance came out about face coverings. As a reaction to this, we are altering our risk assessment. From Monday 24th May (a week on Monday) you will be allowed on site without a face covering. Staff will still have to wear face coverings in communal areas in school, but not in the classrooms. The rest of our procedures remain unchanged at the moment and as we wait to see what happens next with the Indian variant of the virus.

To reassure you, every adult in school continues to test at least twice a week.

It is still really important that you are overly sensitive when looking at your child’s health. If they have any of the three main symptoms, it is important that they have a full PCR Covid test (the link to book one is below) –

  1.   High temperature
  2.   Continuous cough
  3.   Loss of taste and smell

Link: https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test

We are ever hopeful that as time goes on, more and more restrictions can be lifted. The figures for Telford are encouraging and therefore the route to normality still remains firmly in place.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Sports Day

Sports Day

Dear Parents/Carers,

Many schools are abandoning Sports Day due to the risks linked to Covid 19. We know that children love this event and want to put the effort in to allow this event to go ahead in some way. We have therefore decided that each year group will have their own mini sports day. Here are the dates and times –

29th June 2021

Year Reception                       9.15am – 10.30am

Year 3                                     10.45am – 11.45am

Year 4                                     1.45pm – 3.00pm

30th June 2021

Year 1                                     9.15am – 10.30am

Year 5                                     10.45am – 11.45am

Year 2                                     1.45pm – 3.00pm

2nd July 2021

Year 6                                     1.45pm – 3.00pm

Usually, we run a House competition across school on sports day. However, due to the current circumstances and house allocations, this is not possible to continue in the same format. Miss Jones and Mr Irvine are busy working on teams within the year group. Children will undoubtedly tell you about that as soon as they know.

The sports day will be carried out on the sports field.  We ask that parents wait by the main gates onto the school playground, where a member of staff will let you in. Children will be on one side and adults will be socially distanced on the other side of the track. The children may be sat in class team bubbles, but this may change if the Covid 19 restrictions are eased by then. At this time, we are stating that parents must wear a mask for the duration of the event. Again, we will review this restriction in line with guidelines and advice and we will keep you informed.

Due to the time the children will be outside, could you please ensure that your child has applied sun cream before coming to school and brings a hat with them.  Drinks will be provided for them at various stages.

Regardless of what happens Covid wise we will stick to the Year Group events this year and will ensure the children have a great time.

Yours sincerely

Miss Cook

RSE Information – Year 1 to Year 6

Dear Parent / Carer

Please look in your child’s communication diary for a letter which has been stuck in asking for your consent for your child to take part in RSE lessons.

Please go to the RSE page on the school website (learning/subjects/RSE) to see the outline of what your child will be taught.

Once you have read the information including the policy please tick and sign the letter in your child’s communication book.

Kind regards

Update from Miss Cook

29.4.21 update

Dear Parents/Carers,

I have not heard back from the authorities as yet and so can not update as much as I would have hoped.

As I have said previously, I will be on site before 7am tomorrow to meet a Health and Safety leader. We will assess the situation then and immediately update you. Everything hinges on the weather.

I think it is likely that we will open, but it would be wise to have a plan b in place just in case. I know this is not at all ideal and apologise for that.

This I’m sure will be the last day of uncertainty for us all.

Many thanks

Miss Cook
