Year 1- Dog Visit

The children in Year 1 had a wonderful time meeting Ernie the dog today.

They learnt how to care for a dog and were able to feed and stroke him.

Next week, the children will be writing their own non-chronological report about how to look after a dog. We can’t wait to read them!

Drop in session from the Healthy child team

Please see below the invite to an informal chat session on all things health related and dietary needs for early years with the Healthy child team from the local hub. This is a great drop in session for any support or guidance needed.
Parents with small babies and toddlers are welcome too, there will be a safe area for them to play if needed and room for prams.

Therapy Dog Visit

Next week, Year 1 are extremely lucky to have Puppy and Friends Academy coming into school to teach them how to care for a dog. The visit will take place on Wednesday 28th February in the morning and will be in our classroom. They will be bringing an accredited therapy dog with them (a super friendly, calm golden retriever).

The children will not need to bring anything different with them, and will still come to school in their uniform.

Please can you let us know through your child’s reading diary if your child is scared of dogs or has any sensitivities to their fur.

Thanks, Year 1 Team

BeSMART Cup Prize – Miss Buckingham’s Class

Today, Miss Buckingham’s class will be celebrating their BeSMART Cup win. The children can bring in a toy with them today! We can’t wait to celebrate with you this afternoon.

Miss Buckingham’s Class have had an exciting end to the term!

Wow, another half term has passed and we have been so busy!

WE ARE THE BeSMART CUP WINNERS! Watch this space for information about our treat!

This week, we have made snail sculptures with clay and have painted them too – they look amazing and we can’t wait to bring them home to show you :)

We have had a Great Fire of London workshop where we did some brilliant acting and wowed our visitors with our knowledge.

We even wrote diary entries as Samuel Pepys – did you know he buried his cheese and wine?!?

We developed our BeeBot skills and confidently programmed them to move around an Enchanted Forest!

We finished our half term with some valentines day and pancake day crafts, as well as made some delicious bread which we were very proud of.

Have a wonderful holiday with plenty of rest, ready for another busy term!

Love from Miss Buckingham and Mrs Goodwin

Year 1- PE Days and Forest School

There will be no forest school next half term (it will resume again in Summer 1).

PE days will continue to be on a Monday (indoor) and a Wednesday (outdoor).

Don’t forget, you can contact the Year 1 team via the Year 1 email: newdale.year1team@taw.org.uk

We hope the children have a restful half term and we look forward to seeing them when they return.

Thank your for your continued support.

Year 1- Miss Hill’s Class

We have had a brilliant week this week in Year 1.

In Art this half term, the children have been learning about Andy Goldsworthy (a sculptor inspired by nature). This week, the children have used clay to design and sculpt their own snail shell inspired by Goldsworthy.

Here are some photos below:

The children also had a great time this week, learning all about the Great Fire of London through a drama workshop.

The children enjoyed their BeSMART treat this week, playing with their toys from home.

Year 1 & 2 craft club

We have loved watching your skills and confidence grow in the last 5 weeks :)

Please see some of the skills we have taught through the exploration of our Chinese New Year theme!

We have added to our dragons each week.

  • Year 2s were great at helping our year 1s draw around hands and cut out the tricky gaps between fingers.
  • We used cotton buds to print dots along our dragons’ bodies.
  • They have split pins to help them move.

We hope you like our super cool New Year dragons!

Last week we also worked hard to improve our painting techniques. We know how much paint we should have on our brush.
