Online Safety Warning – Squid Game advice for parents

It has been brought to our attention that some children have been watching a new Netflix series called Squid Game.  May we remind parents that this series is rated as a 15 due to its adult content.

It is vital that you monitor what your child is watching online and we recommend that they watch TVs and devices in a communal room at home rather than in their bedrooms.

It is a good idea to set up a Netflix Kids experience profile so you can be sure that they are watching only child-friendly programmes.  There are many other ways to keep your child safe when using Netflix.  Please read the safety tips below:

If you have any concerns or need further advice, please contact a member of the Newdale team.

Community Grocery Store All Nations

A community grocery store has opened at the All Nations Church, Holyhead Road, Ketley (opposite Farm Foods).  This is a fantastic new store where members can shop for a fraction of the cost of a supermarket.

Miss Cook went along on the opening day to see what they have on offer……

‘The quality of the items on sale is great. It is well worth a visit and I really do hope this local facility will make a significant difference to many of our families.’

To find out more, visit the store and speak to one of the friendly team. They will ask you to complete a simple form and to pay your annual £5 membership which allows you two weekly high quality shops for just £3 each!

The community store also offers so much more than just food. There is a range of free support including job clubs, money management support, healthy living classes to name just a few.

Please click on the link for further details  https://communitygrocery.org.uk/telford/

The Community Grocery is being run by the national award-winning charity, The Message Trust in partnership with local churches.

E-Safety Top Tip – Reporting to CEOP

CEOP is a great way for children and adults to report online concerns that they have.  CEOP stands for the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Command. They are part of the police who investigate and deal with cases of online grooming.

The Click CEOP reporting button can be found on many websites and it provides the website users with information and advice and a direct reporting route to CEOP.  Is your child aware of this button?

For more information check out the website below.

House point winners

Wrekin House won the house points last half term so will be having a dress down day this Friday, 5th November. Compliment slips will be sent home with each child in Wrekin House.

Y4 Positive Cases

We have had a few positive cases in Y4 over half term. As always, please can you remain vigilant and keep an eye out for if your child begins to display any of the main or even precautionary symptoms. Yesterday, Miss Cook sent out up-to-date guidance so please refer to that if you are unsure of our school procedures.

We will continue to follow our COVID-19 protocols in school with regards to regular handwashing, use of sanitiser and ventilation.

Please stay in contact via our Y4 email address.

Many thanks

Additional Bank Holiday

Dear Parent/Carer,

You may be aware that the Government have announced an additional bank holiday on Friday 3rd June 2022, in order to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

As a result, schools have been instructed by the Department for Education to incorporate an additional day’s holiday for staff and students into the academic year 2021/2022.

Therefore, the School will be closed to both students and staff on Friday 27th May 2022.

The Term Timetable on the School website has been updated to reflect this change. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause. We wanted to map out this day as quickly as possible, so as to give you as much notice as we can in relation to organising childcare.

Kind regards,

Miss R Cook

Update 1.11.21

Dear Parent/Carers,

I hope you enjoyed your half term. We look forward to welcoming your children back to school tomorrow.

The Covid figures in Telford remain high and as such we are keeping our procedures as tight as they were before the half term break.

Can I again ask you to be super aware of your children’s health and ask you to not send them into school should they be displaying any Covid 19 symptoms.

Remember, if your child is in a house where there is a positive case, they can still come into school to access learning. We certainly do encourage a full PCR test and regular lateral flow testing during this time however. If you choose to keep your child off when they are negative and not displaying symtoms, the absence would be classified as unauthorised inline with Government guidance.

Teachers are working so hard on trying to support children in ‘catching up’ following the months and months of limited learning due to lockdowns. If they have a minority of children off school, they cannot offer the full online learning that they did before. They will signpost you to useful resources however and make suggestions on what your child can be working on at home eg spellings and web site ideas.

We always prioritise reading in our school and as such, if your child is at home for any reason, reading is certainly a worthwhile use of time.

If your child tests positive please let the school know on newdale.primary@taw.org.uk and email your child’s teachers as well using the relevant email below.

We need to continue working together to prevent the spread in our school, so that we can avoid tighter restrictions having to be reimplemented.

As part of our drive to keep Covid cases as low as possible, we intend to keep ventilation levels up across the school. With Autumn in full swing, it will mean that school could be slightly colder than usual. Please can you ensure your children are dressed with this in mind and please make sure they have a name labelled coat.

If you have any queries about day to day learning, then please use the class email listed above and your child’s teaching team will respond.

We really do hope that Covid figures will drop over this half term so that everyone can enjoy a wonderful Christmas.

We have plans developing in the hope we can include you more in Christmas celebrations this year, but need to wait a little longer to see what our situation is before we advertise this more fully.

I will email you again as more information, advice and support arises.

Kind regards

Miss Cook
