Year 1 Guided Reading

Hello everyone,

Today’s Guided Reading is a little different as it is all about Peter Rabbit! You can read the first part of the story with a grown-up at home and have a go at answering the questions. Then, there is a link so that you can listen to the whole story being read. After this, there are some lovely, art activities that you may like to have a go at over the next few days – we can’t wait to see what you get up to! 🙂🐰 📚

Thursday 30th April – Year 1 Maths

Hi everyone,

You have been working really hard this week to divide by grouping. Today, you are going to practise a different method of dividing – sharing. I’m sure this method will be more familiar to you as we have had a little go at this in school before! There is a White Rose video to help you with today’s lesson – please find the link on the information sheet below.

Year 1 Home Learning Thursday 30th April 2020

Last day for practising those Jumping Orange Words! Today once you have watched your phonics video from Miss Hammond, you could play Quickwrite! All you need is a clock or watch. Ask mum or dad to give you one of your spelling words and your challenge is to see how many times you can write it down in 20 seconds. We have played this in class before – what is the record for the most words you can write in those 20 seconds?

A massive well done for the fantastic story writing at home. We are so proud of the effort you have put in this week.

We are approaching the end of our Enormous Turnip week, and therefore after your hard work writing this week tomorrow’s activity is a reading activity. Attached are some reading comprehension questions to prove how well you know and understand the story. There are three different level sheets so you can choose how easy or hard you think the questions should be for your child (there are also answer sheets for parents as a guide). These can be copied onto paper if you do not have a printer.

Don’t forget the 2do’s on PurpleMash too.

Well done everyone.

Year 1 Home Learning Wednesday 29th April 2020

Hello Year 1

Can you practise your Jumping Orange words today as a 4-in-a-row game? Use the game attached or create your own grid for fun.

Well done for working hard on your stories so far. We are looking forward to seeing the completed versions.

Today you may choose to finish these as it was quite a lot to write all in one day! Please continue and complete your stories today either on paper or on your 2create a story.

If however, you did complete the story then head on to PurpleMash for your Literacy tasks for today. There is a spelling game, a friendship task and also a favourite fruit task. Keep up the hard work everyone.

Year 1 Maths – Wednesday 29th April

Hello everyone,

In Wednesday’s maths lesson we will continue to think about dividing by splitting objects into groups. Today, I have given you three suggested activities – you do not have to complete them all. They are there so that you can choose one or two activities that are most relevant to you – depending on how your child got on with yesterday’s learning.

Equal Groups Picture Cards

Have fun,

Year 1 Maths – Tuesday 28th April

Following on from yesterday’s Maths lesson, today’s activity is based around another White Rose video. Today’s lesson introduces the topic of ‘Division’. In Year 1, one of the methods we use to teach is division is called ‘grouping’. This simply means putting objects into ‘groups of’ a particular number, to see how many equal groups you can make. The video will introduce this idea and talk the children through a number of examples, which they may like to have a go at practically too, alongside watching the video! 🙂

You will find details of which video to watch in the picture below. The link to the website is:

Year 1 Home Learning Tuesday 28th April 2020

For phonics today, please continue to practise your jumping orange year 1 words. Can you put these words into a sentence? Also watch Miss Hammond’s fantastic video’s, along with the DFE videos.

We hope you enjoyed planning your own story yesterday. There are some great innovations being sent in. We are looking forward to reading ‘The Ginormous Onion’ and ‘The Enormous Beetroot’ to name but a few of the super ideas.

Today’s Literacy is to begin to use your story plan to write your story. Children write at different paces, so it might be a good idea to break their story plan up for them into a beginning, middle and end section. Then write each section one a time. Breaking it up into chunks will make it more achievable. You can then choose whether you want to write the whole story today or you may find it better to spread it out over a couple of days. Much work has been on the computer, so this is a great opportunity to keep up the handwriting practise.

However, if you did prefer to record electronically a new 2do has been set called 2create a story. You can make a real book with words and pictures.

Please share you super stories via the homework blog, or you could email us at newdale.year1@taw.org.uk  We cannot wait to read them.
