Year 1-Miss Hill’s Class -Carers Day

Year 1 enjoyed Carers Day last week. They participated with a Money Sense lesson and identified where money comes from.

They were lucky enough to have a workshop with West Mercia Search and Rescue. They children were told about how the search and rescue team work hard to find and rescue people across all different terrains including on water and in woodlands. They showed the children their uniform and different equipment that they use.

The children were taught  (SAFE):

Stay

Away
From the
Edge

The children also had a visit from a local farmer from PDM. They learnt about the different job types involved with farming and were able to learn about cultivation and groundwork. The children used their knowledge from their science unit, Plants, to help identify what lettuce would need in order to grow. They then tried different types of lettuce and went outside to look at a tractor. They had a great time!

Nature Walk -Miss Hill’s Class

Year 1 has a fantastic morning on their nature walk. We discussed the changes in the season and compared the leaves on the trees to Autumn. We identified that the leaves had fully regrown onto the trees and that they were bright green.

We also used our scientific knowledge of plants to identify flowers on our nature walk. We were able to confidently label the parts of a plant. We enjoyed exploring and being in nature.

Whole School French Day

On Friday 5th July there will be a whole school French day for pupils from Nursery to Year 6.

Pupils can come into school dressed in red, white and blue or even create a costume inspired by a famous French landmark.

Throughout the day there will be various activities for the children to participate with including, cooking, handball, pétanque, the can-can and much more.

There will also be the option to have a French themed dinner which consists of quiche, ratatouille and chocolate mousse, alongside the normal fish and chips which will be served.

If you would like to make a voluntary contribution of £2.00 to support the resources on the day, please log into parent pay.

Thank you for your continue support.

Safeguarding, Health & Safety Committee Update

The Safeguarding/Health & Safety Governors met on the 22nd May in school. They really enjoyed talking to a group of older pupils about school dinners/packed lunches and were impressed with their understanding about what a healthy diet looks like.

Governors regularly carry out a ‘spot check’ linked to staff understanding of safeguarding policy and procedure. During this meeting they interviewed a Year 5 Teaching Assistant. Governors were satisfied with the in depth answers the staff member gave to their questions.

Governors had a focus on online safety and carried out a UKCIS online safety audit. Miss Hill is in charge of online safety in our school and is clearly doing a great job! Governors look forward to observing a whole school ‘invacuation drill’ this half term.
