Radio Shropshire ‘Climb against Cancer’

Dear Parents/Carers,

As you will now be all aware, we are taking Years 1 – 6 to ‘climb against cancer’ on the 3rd July next week.

We hope that Radio Shropshire will attend and help us not only promote the event across Telford, but also help us capture the event through photographs and film footage.

There is a slim possibility that a team from Midlands Today or similar will also attend. This of course is dependent on what is going on nationally and with it being on the eve of a general election, they may well be busy!

I have today spoken to Telford and Wrekin communications team, who would also like to potentially come and join in the fun!

We have a small number of children who have on their record, ‘no consent’ for photos etc. If that is your child, you will soon receive a phone call from our admin team to discuss arrangements.

If you do not receive a phone call, yet believe you ticked ‘no consent’, please contact the office to discuss.

Kind regards,

Miss Cook

Headteacher

KS1 Sports Day

Well, year 1 and 2 did not let us down with team support. I’m sure the rest of the school heard them chanting for teammates and their houses last Wednesday.

They ran, jumped and crawled their socks off! It was a close competition and we were so proud of all their efforts.

All our children loved watching parents get their competitive side out and commando roll into winning positions! Thanks for all the extra points you scored. We’re sure they contributed to the winning total.

And, there could only be one winner. A very special well done goes to the house winners…WENLOCK!

A huge thank you to Miss Jones, the crossbar team and all the additional adults who helped total points, set up races and generally organise the day. The afternoon ran incredibly smoothly thanks to your efforts.

What an exciting start to Summer 2 in Miss Buckingham’s Class!

Wow, we have been extremely busy in our class so far in our final half term of Year 1!

We began the half term with Healthy Lifestyles Week, completing a circuit with gymnast Dominick Cunningham, using the Crossbar inflatables, going on different inflatables in the hall, meeting Dan Udoh, doing Zumba with Miss Lowe, riding our scooters and bikes in the playground and much, much more!

We had a fantastic careers day dressing up, meeting a farmer who works for the UK’s largest salad producing company (he drove his tractor to school to show us!)  and having a session with West Mercia Search and Rescue.

This half term has been all about sandwiches! In literacy, we are writing instructions for making sandwiches, and in DT, we have learnt about healthy foods and made ourselves a healthy sandwich!

Last week, we showed our competitive spirits breaking into houses for a brilliant sports day! We loved cheering on our teams and showed great sportsmanship.

On Thursday morning, we had chicks come into our classroom. They were only 1 week old! We put them in the middle and observed them interacting with each other, stretching their wings, running around and some even pooing! We all got to stroke the chicks too – they were so soft!

We cannot wait for what the last four weeks of Year 1 has in store!

Curriculum Governors Involvement

Governors enjoyed listening to the children enthusiastically talking about their experiences during Healthy Lifestyles Week. Governors were impressed by the recount from the curriculum lead, explaining the developments across foundation subject assessment. This was evident whenever the Art and EYFS subject lead confidently discussed their areas of expertise.

Baby Chicks and Making Sandwiches in DT -Miss Hill’s Class-Year 1

What a  busy week it has been!

The children loved sports day on Wednesday and were all very keen to participate.

They have had a brilliant week meeting and holding the cute chicks.

The children have also made sandwiches this week in DT. They practised the skill of slicing and grating as well as assembling a sandwich, using their chosen ingredients. Here are some pictures of them making their final product.

Year 1-Miss Hill’s Class -Carers Day

Year 1 enjoyed Carers Day last week. They participated with a Money Sense lesson and identified where money comes from.

They were lucky enough to have a workshop with West Mercia Search and Rescue. They children were told about how the search and rescue team work hard to find and rescue people across all different terrains including on water and in woodlands. They showed the children their uniform and different equipment that they use.

The children were taught  (SAFE):

Stay

Away
From the
Edge

The children also had a visit from a local farmer from PDM. They learnt about the different job types involved with farming and were able to learn about cultivation and groundwork. The children used their knowledge from their science unit, Plants, to help identify what lettuce would need in order to grow. They then tried different types of lettuce and went outside to look at a tractor. They had a great time!

Nature Walk -Miss Hill’s Class

Year 1 has a fantastic morning on their nature walk. We discussed the changes in the season and compared the leaves on the trees to Autumn. We identified that the leaves had fully regrown onto the trees and that they were bright green.

We also used our scientific knowledge of plants to identify flowers on our nature walk. We were able to confidently label the parts of a plant. We enjoyed exploring and being in nature.

Whole School French Day

On Friday 5th July there will be a whole school French day for pupils from Nursery to Year 6.

Pupils can come into school dressed in red, white and blue or even create a costume inspired by a famous French landmark.

Throughout the day there will be various activities for the children to participate with including, cooking, handball, pétanque, the can-can and much more.

There will also be the option to have a French themed dinner which consists of quiche, ratatouille and chocolate mousse, alongside the normal fish and chips which will be served.

If you would like to make a voluntary contribution of £2.00 to support the resources on the day, please log into parent pay.

Thank you for your continue support.
