There will be no forest school next half term (it will resume again in Summer 1).

PE days will continue to be on a Monday (indoor) and a Wednesday (outdoor).

Year 1- Miss Hill’s Class

We have had a brilliant week this week in Year 1.

In Art this half term, the children have been learning about Andy Goldsworthy (a sculptor inspired by nature). This week, the children have used clay to design and sculpt their own snail shell inspired by Goldsworthy.

Here are some photos below:

The children also had a great time this week, learning all about the Great Fire of London through a drama workshop.

The children enjoyed their BeSMART treat this week, playing with their toys from home.

NSPCC Number Day – Friday 2nd February

NSPCC Number Day 2024 Information

Don’t forget, Newdale are taking part in this year’s NSPCC Number Day!  All of our pupils, from Nursery up to Year 6, will enjoy a variety of Maths activities, maths stories and competitions on Friday. Years 2 – 6 will be involved in a Times Tables Rockstars Battle too.

To raise money for the NSPCC and support all of the important work that they do, we are inviting all children  to dress down in number-themed outfits on Friday. The donation for this can be made on ParentPay. Thank you in advance for your support.

Safeguarding, Heath & Safety Governors Committee

The Safeguarding, Health & Safety governors met last Thursday and really enjoyed listening to the views of girls from reception, Year 2, 4 and 6. Governors asked many questions about lunchtime and break time activities. Children responded confidently about what there is to do both indoors and outdoors. They knew what to do should a ‘dangerous situation’ arise and what to do should they come across damaged resources. Year 6 are going to report back to Miss Cook about ideas for interactive games that they could use in their outdoor area. Governors reviewed the food standards documentation and look forward to pupil voice and menu analysis as part of the next committee meeting.

Governors feedback linked to the Curriculum meeting

Governors were delighted to talk to enthusiastic Geographers from Reception to Year 6. Children were very knowledgeable about topics such as volcanoes, earthquakes, Mount Everest, capital cities and details around maps.

Governors could see clearly that the children in our nursery provision have a high-quality offer with exciting resources and stimulating environments.

Governors want to celebrate the swimming offer with you – please see below the report created by Miss Jones our PE lead.

Swimming Update January 2024

Governors had an in depth look at the After School Club provision and were impressed with the overall offer including the carefully thought-out snack menu, planned trips and exciting activities for the children. Governors agreed to release more funding to further resource our After School Club.

A Busy Week in Year 1!

It has been another busy week in Year 1 this week!

We have been learning about The Great Fire of London in History this week. We’ve imagined we are bakers on Pudding Lane, civilians in London in 1666 trying to stop the fire and Samuel Pepys writing his diary.

Our bird feeders had set, so we went and placed them on the trees around Base Camp to feed the birds during the cold weather.

In Forest School, we created our own sculptures using natural materials inspired by Andy Goldsworthy.

In Computing, we worked collaboratively and practised programming commands to move a BeeBot around a map.

In Science, we sorted different items into groups based on the material that they were. We also used a range of adjectives to describe the properties of each material.

In Maths, we have been learning to count in our 2’s and our 10’s. Please ask your child to keep chanting these around the house, practice makes perfect! In Literacy, we have been reading Paddington and using exciting vocabulary to retell the story of him at the palace. Here is another Paddington story you might like to listen to. 🐻 Paddington at the Circus | Paddington Bear Kids Book Read Aloud (youtube.com)

Our Wonderful Winter Walk!

This morning, Year 1 went on a wonderful, wintery Nature Walk looking for signs of winter and spotting different wildlife and habitats.

We observed lots of different birds, so when we returned to school, we worked as a team to create lots of bird feeders to hang around Newdale’s outdoor areas.

Year 1 -Miss Hill’s Class

The children worked hard learning the songs and actions for their nativity this year. We are so proud of them! Please see some of the photos that were taken yesterday.

We also had a great time this morning having a snowball fight.

We hope you have a wonderful break, ready to return in 2024.

Thank you for your continued support.
