Year 2 Spelling activity – Thursday 3rd December

Hi all,

For todays spelling activity we would like you to use your spelling words to write lots of different numbers. For those of you learning the number words 1-10 then look particularly hard at those, e.g. if writing the number 46, then test yourself, can you spell the word ‘six’ without looking at the sheet? For those of you learning the number words 10-100 then look carefully at those, e.g. if writing 46, see if you can spell ‘forty’ without looking at the sheet.

Happy spelling everyone!

Please email a photo of your work to ‘newdale.year2team@taw.org.uk’ or post on the school website year 2 homework blog.

If you need paper copies please contact the school office.

Year 2 – Mrs Thomas’s Phonics group – Thursday 3rd December

Hi all,

Today we will be taking a break from split digraphs as you are getting so good at them now. Instead, we are going to practise reading longer words that have the consonant clusters ‘sn’, ‘nch’, ‘scr’, ‘shr’, ‘thr’ and ‘str’.

Below is a worksheet for you to complete. If you don’t want to print out the sheet, you can draw the picture yourself and then write the correct word next to it.

Circle the word – consonant clusters

Now can you choose at least 4 of the words from the worksheet and write a sentence for each, remembering to sound out the word carefully as you write it.

Can you be really clever and think of any words of your own that begin with these sounds?

Please email a photo of your work to ‘newdale.year2team@taw.org.uk’ or post on the school website year 2 homework blog. Thank you.

Maths Home Learning – Thursday 3rd December

On Thursday we will be delivering two live Teams lessons again. The first will be Maths at 9:30am. This will be a session about telling the time to the nearest 5 minute interval (to the hour this time)

Your child should have received an invite to this session however if not you can ‘join’ the meeting through the Teams app.

Children will need paper and a pen handy for the session.

Following the lesson, the questions on the sheet below should be answered.  You do not need to print this sheet but the children will need to see it so they can work out their answers.  Try to encourage your child to use the picture of the annotated clock at the top of the sheet to help them.

Wednesday’s Live lessons – for anyone who missed them!

We had two live lessons today, Maths and Literacy.  If you missed either of them then you can catch up with the recording here:

Also have a look at what our cheeky elves have been up to today.  I think they are trying to remind us all to keep washing our hands.  What a mess they have made!

Both of the elves were named during this mornings meeting.  The elf in Miss Jones’ class is called Buddy and the elf in Miss Newport’s class is called Snowflake.  Two brilliant names for two cheeky elves!

If you have any queries or questions then please get in touch!  newdale.year2team@taw.org.uk

We are all very proud of you Year 2,

Year 2 – Mrs Thomas’s Phonics group (Split Digraphs) – Wednesday 2nd December

Hi phonics group,

Today we will be continuing to practise reading and spelling words using the ‘u-e’ split digraph.

Below is a link to a fun online game. All you need to do is spell a ‘u-e’ word to match each picture that is shown. Good luck!

https://games.galacticphonics.com/longvowels/u-e/interactive/uespell/uespellt.htm

Top tip: If you are not sure what the picture in the game is showing you then click on the ‘list’ button and it will show you a selection of words to choose from.

How many of the 10 ‘u-e’ words did you spell correctly?

Year 2 Spelling activity – Wednesday 2nd December

Hi all,

Todays spelling activity is the ‘Dice Bingo’ game. Some of you have played this before but some of you haven’t so here are the instructions for how to play.

1) Print off a bingo board for each player (each player’s board looks the same).

dice game – number words 1-10 dice game – number words 10-100

Remember to choose the board that matches your spellings for this week.

This one is for Mrs Thomas, Mrs Horler and Mrs Fullerton’s groups.

This one is for Miss Newport and Miss Jones’s groups.

2)Take turns to roll the dice (if you don’t have a dice then I have attached a link below to an online one).

https://www.online-stopwatch.com/chance-games/roll-a-dice/

3)Whichever number you roll, you read the word next to that number on your board, highlight it or colour it in and then copy the word on the line underneath. It is then the next players turn.

4)If you roll a number that has been rolled before then read the next word along on the same line.

5)The winner is the first person to colour a line going either across or down. Remember to shout BINGO!

Please email a photo of your work to ‘newdale.year2team@taw.org.uk’ or post on the school website year 2 homework blog. We’d love to see who won!

If you need paper copies please contact the school office.

Update 2.12.2020

Thank you for your continued support through this tricky half term. The teams at Newdale are doing their very best to keep everyone safe as well as making sure the children are accessing the very best teaching and learning. We are not writing off Christmas and have all sorts of fun things in the pipeline to help children get excited and looking forward to the big day!

I have been involved in some of the live lessons that Year 2 have been delivering: it has been lovely to see children engaged and enjoying the offer. Clearly, we know it is not as good as being in school, but I am very confident that the Year 2 team are working so hard on delivering the best offer possible. If you are struggling with accessing home learning, please contact the school and we will help you as much as possible. It is important that children do not slip behind.

The attached poster is the latest guidance on Tier 2 which Telford has been placed in. We really do need you to pay more attention than ever to the health of your children. As you can see, there are precautionary test recommendations for a new set of symptoms. If we in school hear a child of complaining of these symptoms, we will ask you to collect them straight away to avoid possible direct contacts and therefore possible spread of the virus. The test process is very easy and we know now that results are often back within 24 hours. Unfortunately we have experienced some parents saying their child is making it up and that they are not ill. As you can imagine, this is very difficult for us in school as we have to be overly cautious for the sake of everyone else. Please support us in monitoring carefully at home and talking to your children should they seem under the weather.

The last reminder for now is linked to sickness and diarrhoea – if your child does suffer with either of these illnesses, please note our school sickness policy is that they remain off school for 48 hours, again to avoid spreading diseases unnecessarily.

Thank you for your continued support in helping us to keep you safe.
