Phase 4 blends activity ideas

Good morning Tobias, Mckenzie and Riley! This term in school we would have spent a bit of time concentrating on our Phase 4 blends. Here is a sound mat of those sounds for you to familiarise yourself with. Looking at the first 4, which are st, nd, mp and nt can you challenge yourself to make a list of words that contain these sounds? Also, can you unscramble my words below? Good luck, Miss Hammond!

Beauty and the asteb.

E-Safety Top Tip: YouTube

Some children might want to create and share their own videos on YouTube.

If you decide that it’s ok for them to do this, help them think about what they’re sharing in them and who can see them. You should set up the account together and set it to private so only their friends can watch them and disable comments.

You should also remind them that they shouldn’t share private things, such as:

• personal information, like names, other social media accounts, their school or location phone numbers
• other people’s personal information
• links to join private group chats
• photos of themselves
• photos of their body, such as sexual photos or videos

For more information you could visit the NSPCC parent guide.  https://www.net-aware.org.uk/networks/youtube/

If you have any other E-safety concerns during this lockdown period please get in contact with class teachers or our pastoral team.  We can help you and give you advice.

Year 2 Home Learning Thursday 7th January

Hello Year 2!

Here is your learning for Thursday 7th January 😊

There will be two live lessons, Maths at 9.30am (looking at pictograms) and Literacy at 11am (working on adjectives and adverbs).  You should have received an invite for this session however if not, then you can join the meeting through the Teams app. Please come to each meeting armed with paper and a pen to write.

Following the lesson, the questions on the sheet below should be answered.  You do not need to print this sheet but the children will need to see it so they can work out their answers.

Thursday Maths

Thursday adverbs and adjectives

If you are unable to attend the live sessions, a recording of the lesson will always be available afterwards.  Worksheets and any further instructions will be shared via the website. We understand that this is tricky for some of you working from home, especially those with siblings so we understand that it is not always possible to join live. We hope the recordings help to support this.

As always, spelling and times tables activities will be posted online daily.

If you have any questions please email us on newdale.year2team@taw.org.uk

We understand that this is a very difficult time for parents and we are extremely grateful for all of your support.

Many thanks,

Miss Newport and Miss Jones 😊 😊

Free SIM cards

At school we have a limited number of a 30GB data-only SIMs for which last for 90 days. We would like to offer these to help support children access the online learning.  The SIM cards will work with a Smart Laptop/Dongle if it has a slot for a SIM card, you simply place it in.

The SIM card can be placed into a Smartphone. You can then use that data to connect or ‘tether’ your others devices (eg tablet, laptop) by using the ‘Hotspot’ feature on the phone. You would not be able to use your phone to make calls/texts while using your data SIM.

If you would like a 30GB sim card, please email newdale.primary@taw.org.uk and request one (first come, first served). The data must be used to support home schooling during this national lockdown.

The SIM cards are limited to 30GB, so once that data limit is reached, no further data is available and once the 90 days has ended, any remainder of the 30GB of data will expire.

Regards

Phonics

Hello to all the children in my Phonics sessions, I hope you had a lovely Christmas and Happy New Year! I thought it may be useful to share a few links to some frequently used websites in school so that you can use them to help you with your spelling practice at home.

https://www.phonicsbloom.com/

https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/

There are also numerous Youtube videos to help you along, such as Geraldine the Giraffe and Mr Thorne, plus lots of songs and videos that can be found by searching specific sounds such as ai, ee, igh etc.

Miss Hammond.

Reading in Year 2!

Oxford Owl is a free to use, online bank of resources. The website address is www.oxfordowl.co.uk  Parents can make their own accounts on this website to access e-books, phonics, reading and maths activities. There is also lots of advice on this website regarding how to support your child’s learning at home. You may still have access to the same account that you used in Year 1.

On the ‘Free e-book library’, you can select books that match the coloured book banded books that your child brings home each day.  You can also organise the books according to the phonics level that your child is reading at.

Many of the books have an audio feature, so that your child can listen to the story whilst also reading it themselves. Most of the e-books within this section of the website also have comprehension activities that your child can complete after reading the book.

And don’t forget there are also some useful websites where you can practise your phonics to then apply in your reading books. See the links below.

Please try to read once a day.  Reading is such an important skill and developing your skills at a young age is vital.  You can still record reading in your reading diaries and we look forward to seeing them when we get back to school.

📘 📕 📗Happy reading everyone,📗 📕 📘

Year 3 Home Learning Wednesday 6th January

Hello Year 3,

It was great to see that lots of you managed to tune into the first live video this morning.

Live learning will continue tomorrow and there will be two live lessons each day on Google Meet as follows:

9:40am Literacy

We will be looking at chapter 3 of The Butterfly Lion. Please ensure you have listened to Chapters 1 & 2 prior to the live session available at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwHr9tiOxLs

10:50am Maths

To tune into the live lessons, you just need to log into Google Classroom (a user guide was shared yesterday) and click the meet link on the Year 3 cohort classroom page at both of the above times (always log into Classroom first and follow the link, do not go directly to Meet as it wont allow you to join). Children will need paper and a pen handy for live sessions. Please ensure that your child’s microphone is muted when they join the lesson.

Following the lessons, there will be questions and sheets available on Google Classroom for you to complete online or on paper depending on your access and the nature of the tasks set.

If you are unable to attend the live sessions, a recording of the lesson will always be available afterwards in Google Classroom.  Worksheets and any further instructions are also shared via the Classroom. We understand that this is tricky for some of you working from home, especially those with siblings so we understand that it is not always possible to join live. We hope the recordings help to support this.

During the afternoon we suggest you spend some time going over the spellings in neat handwriting and then completing the geography work which has been set in Google Classroom (you will not have to see a live lesson to complete this).

If you have any questions, please email us on newdale.year3team@taw.org.uk

We understand that this is a very difficult time for parents and we are extremely grateful for all of your support.

Many thanks

Update 5.01.21

Good morning,

Many staff working in our school have children of their own and therefore can completely sympathise with you this morning. We know that the last minute decision by the Government will undoubtedly cause mass disruption on so many levels. Many schools have closed their doors today in order to plan for the forthcoming weeks. We worked very late into the night in order to be able to at least allow some of our critical, key workers access to school places for their children, so that they can go to work to support us all. As you know, it is so important that everyone supports each other over this difficult time.

We understand that some people may have missed the communication that we sent more or less immediately after the announcement last night and we will look at what further we can offer later on today after we have processed the applications we have already received.

Please help us by not turning up for school if you are in anyway unsure as to if your child qualifies for a place. We are only able to accept certain children as per the guidance and only children that we have received a form from at this point. A ‘lock down’ is a ‘lock down’, and we need to only have children in school whose parents really do qualify as key workers please. Please also only take up the place if you really need it e.g. shift work patterns may mean you can in fact safely keep you child at home. Please do not be offended if we ask for proof of key worker status and even ask for shift patterns so that we can plan accordingly.

School staff will be contacting parents of children who we believe qualify for places who have not yet been in touch. Please wait for communication from school and access the online learning offer for your child today.

If you are struggling with accessing the online offer, please contact either the office or your child’s teacher through their email contact.

Again, thank you for all of your support.

Miss Cook
