Important update for the Christmas holidays

9th December 2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

You may have seen on the news or social media that the Government have given Headteachers the right to close school a day earlier than scheduled. The reason they have done this is outlined here…

‘Education providers are asked to remain contactable so they can assist with contact tracing where necessary. This will allow enough time for positive coronavirus (COVID-19) cases to be identified and confirmed by a test and for relevant contacts in the education setting to be traced. We are clear that beyond 6 days after the final day of teaching, school and further education staff are not asked to play a role in any contact tracing. It is also likely that the need to support the tracing process will reduce dramatically over the course of the 6 days as the majority of cases should be identified earlier in the week.’

We have made the decision that we will NOT be closing a day early. We already had our systems in place before this announcement and we really do want to prioritise the time children spend in school catching up on missed learning. We also factored in the disruption this would cause to working parents at such short notice. As ever, we are continuing to do all we possibly can to minimise risk in school and we continue to need your help with this at home. Most importantly, by not sending in your child if they are unwell. Please air on the side of caution.

Please note these important messages concerning the holiday period –

  1. If your child tests positive for coronavirus (COVID-19), having developed symptoms more than 48 hours since being in school (Monday 21st December onwards), the school should not be contacted. Parents and carers should follow contact tracing instructions provided by NHS Test and Trace.
  2. For the first 6 days after teaching ends, if a pupil tests positive for coronavirus (COVID-19), having developed symptoms within 48 hours of being in school (Saturday 19th December and Sunday 20th December), the school is asked to assist in identifying close contacts and advising self-isolation, as the individual may have been infectious whilst in school.

If you have a situation linked to point 2, here is what you must do immediately please –

Call the main school contact number of 01952 387720 and email  newdale.primary@taw.org.uk and leave a message with the following details, name of child, class teacher and best contact number.

This number will be manned throughout the Christmas period (up to the 24th December).

We would then contact you for more details and then contact school staff to discover ‘direct contacts’. Following this all ‘direct contacts’ would be notified to self-isolate immediately.

Clearly, we are so hopeful this does not happen, as we want all of our families to have a fantastic Christmas without the restrictions of self-isolating.

Again, we thank you for your support in this important matter.

Year 2 – Return to school

4th December 2020

Dear Parents/Carers of Year 2 children,

Thank you for supporting your children so well with our online learning offer. We understand that it is tricky, but are delighted with how hard the children have worked.

We are really looking forward to getting back to normality next week.

Everyone is welcome back on the 8th December. We have our fingers crossed that nothing affects this bubble again and hope the children are looking forward to the last few weeks as we build up to Christmas.

It is really important to us that you continue to keep a very careful eye on your child by way of their health. Please do not send them back to school if they are displaying any of the primary Covid 19 symptoms or the secondary symptoms as show on this poster…

Tests are easy to book with results coming through very quickly now. We would rather you aired on the side of caution to avoid any further disruption across school.

If you have any questions, do ring the office who will be more than happy to help.

Year 2 – Important Information

Dear parents and carers of children in Year 2,

Further to our communications today, we want to update you.

We have spent the day carrying out a thorough investigation and working alongside the Health Protection Hub.

In light of our investigation and information gathered via contact tracing, we have decided to close the Year 2 bubble from tomorrow for 14 days.

This means that all pupils in Year 2 will be required to self-isolate from now until 8.30am on 8th December.

Please disregard any communications that you have received today from school regarding your child coming back to school tomorrow and do not bring your child into school. Work will be set via our school website. Please contact us if you have concerns.

If your child shows any symptoms, please follow the national guidance given.

We appreciate this may cause some inconvenience, however we must follow the policy and procedures that we have been advised to.

Thank you for all of your support so far.

Kind regards

Miss Cook

Christmas at Newdale

This year Mrs Christmas would love to come and visit our wonderful children and spread some Christmas magic to cheer everyone up after what has been a whirlwind year. The exciting thing about this year’s visit is that she will be bringing MR CHRISTMAS along too! Rudolph is sadly unavailable as he needs all the rest he can get before the big day.

Due to the current situation we are still planning carefully how we can offer this wonderful experience to your children, whilst keeping them safe. Watch out for more information closer to the time…………..

Children will be allowed to wear their Christmas jumpers on numerous occasions between now and the end of term – further information to follow.

Lost Property

We have a large number of coats without children’s names in our lost property.  On Tuesday morning (10th November) we will place the coats on the picket fence on the playground for parents to check through.  We will space them out to adhere to social distancing but ask that parents also try to maintain a safe distance.

Please note only coats will be taken out tomorrow, however we will look at introducing other items in the future.

If it is wet outside please note that we will not be taking the coats out.

Thank you

Children In Need November 2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

This year we are concentrating our efforts on our Remembrance event on 11th November, please reference the post from 3rd November for further details.

We are aware that Children In Need is also on this week.

We do not want to over burden parents with requests for money and also need to be very careful when handling money on site due to the risks of contamination.

As a result of this, we ask you to support Children In Need elsewhere if you can. There are plenty of collection pots around our community and an option to donate online should you wish.

After School Clubs – Years 1 & 2

Apologies for any confusion.  If your child attends an after school sport club, they are to attend school in their school uniform and can bring their kit to get changed into at the end of the day.

Only those children in Years 3 – 6 will wear their kit to school all day.  This is due to needing separate changing rooms for the girls and boys.

Change to lunch menu Thursday 22nd October

The school kitchen will be changing the lunch menu on Thursday 22nd October to the Friday menu of fish & chips.
