Art in Reception 🎨

This week we have been learning about our year group artist ‘Kandinsky’. Perhaps your child can tell you about his abstract style using shapes and colour?

We learnt all about mixing colours to create new colours. Can you remember what colour is created when we mix yellow and blue? How about red and blue? Which new colour is made when we mix yellow and red?
Look at our class masterpiece created by collating all of our individual colour mixed circles.  We are sure you will be very impressed and may even struggle to decide which is the work of your child and which is the work of Kandinsky!

Reading Diaries

We are really pleased to confirm that we are able to accept Reading Diaries in class again on a daily basis, rather than weekly. This is fantastic news for us so that we can accept incoming messages along with your daily comments for reading at home. We will send home a reading book, but please continue to make use of Bug Club and Oxford Owl for a selection of great books too.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

End of term message

Dear Parent/Carers,

The sunshine of the past two days has certainly lifted everyone’s spirits. Let’s hope that we get more of this over the Easter break.

It has been lovely for everyone to see the children settle so quickly back into a routine and to enjoy their learning and of course see their friends. We really do hope this positivity continues when children return on Monday 19th April.

The Telford and Wrekin Covid figures thankfully still remain low and are continuing to fall. Clearly the news in Europe is worrying and we watch and listen to developments and still plan to remain cautious when we return.

The one way system will remain in place as will the expectation that parents wear face coverings on our site at all times please. All of our in-school procedures will remain the same; however, we do hope that guidance will allow some easing of this over time. It is really important that you follow the school procedures. When we are able to ease them, we will let you know as soon as possible.

It is important that you let us know if your child/children have a positive Covid test during the first 3 days after we have finished school. Therefore any test result that comes in up to the end of Sunday, is relevant to us and track and trace. You would need to email school on newdale.primary@taw.org.uk or text school on 07765147868 to let us know and immediately let the Health Protection Hub know using this link https://www.telford.gov.uk/info/20692/coronavirus_covid-19/4040/i_want_to_report_suspected_or_confirmed_cases . Fingers crossed we do not have to inform families and staff to self-isolate over the Easter holidays.

Teachers may well have set some activities / homework to do over the break. What we know is that one of the most valuable activities you can do is to listen to you child read or encourage them to read to themselves as often as possible. This reading time develops the love of reading, supports children’s ideas for writing, secures spelling and of course helps children learn new words.

Can we remind you that we do not allow ‘exteme’ hair cuts and ask you to please consider carefully the style your child has. In our policy we state that extreme shaving and patterns should not be cut into hair please and neither should applying hair dye. This includes closely shaved lines into hair.

We hope to be able to offer more events and activities as we move through the summer term and will of course keep you fully informed.

As always, we really do appreciate the support we get from our families. Have a great Easter.

Dino Day in Reception!

We had a great day today celebrating all things dinosaur! Thank you for providing fantastic costumes. The children had a wonderful time and it really got them in the spirit!
We did some wonderful Dino Addition, completing the challenges and finding the numbers. We read a story called the Hideasaurus and then brought this to life with our very own Dino hide and seek in forest schools. Look carefully as some children were exceptionally good at camouflage 🌱 🦖.  We then completed some fun activities, such as cutting and creating our dinosaur skeletons. Please have a look at the pictures, but try not to be too scared…

Star of the Week 🌟

Congratulations to Lila earning our star certificate this week.
Lila works so hard every single day and is always so helpful and polite.

Bug Club Online

Hello Reception,

To continue with supporting reading at home as best we can, school has recently invested in a new online reading system called ‘Bug Club’. Your child will be familiar with some of these resources already as we have Bug Club reading books we use in school and also use some of their online resources in our phonics sessions.

We are now able to offer out individual logins to Bug Club online for you to access at home. This will include a whole bank of online reading books that you can access at home! We are able to set books specifically for your child’s reading level, just as we would when we send real books home for you to read in the week! These books will be matched to the phonics that your child will be learning at school and also include fun activities or quizzes that will help develop your child’s understanding of what they have read.

We have stuck your child’s individual log in for their Bug Club membership in their reading diaries today so you can start using straight away! Attached is a letter with details and instructions of how to log on and start using the website. We will continue to send home a hard copy of a reading book each week as we really do value real life books and promote a love of reading! However, as we are limited at the moment in being able to exchange books as regularly as we would normally, these colourful, decodable books will help your child keep reading a minimum of 3x a week with you and ensure they stay on track.

We hope you will find these fun and exciting! Any questions, please do ask. Have fun reading together.

Thank you for your support.
