13th July 2021

Dear Parents/Carers,

I wanted to further update you of some staff changes that will come into place in September.

  • Miss Gears, who has already returned as our SENDCo will be getting married over the Summer break and will return to school as Mrs Poole.

  • Miss Huda will be leaving her role in the Pastoral team, and we all wish her the best of luck in her new role. Her replacement will be Mrs Byrne Corbett.

Kind regards,

8.7.21 Fidget toys and slime

Dear Parent/Carers,

Please can you support us in making sure your children are not smuggling fidget toys and slime into school (The image below is just one class collection from this week!).

We are not kill joys, we simply have not got the time to be dealing with the squabbles that come with them! We supply lots of equipment for the children to use at playtimes and are in the middle of developing a giant school fidget toy box for the children to enjoy.

Uniform for next year

Dear Parent / Carers,

Uniform is incredibly important to us at Newdale and underpins our ethos, values, and emphasis on how children should approach life at school.  We understand there are differing opinions on the need for school uniform, but through my personal experience in many different educational settings, uniform does set the tone for expectations around conduct, behaviour, and attitudes; this in turn impacts on the smooth running of lessons and the atmosphere within the school.  We will continue to place a high emphasis on children wearing it correctly and well and your continued support in this respect is very much appreciated.

At Newdale our school colours are navy blue, black and grey.

We request children wear a navy jumper or cardigan and grey or black skirts / pinafores or trousers along with a light blue collared shirt. If you would like to order uniform with our school logo on, please do so via Baker and Sons Schoolwear in New Street, Wellington 01952 641897.  This is not compulsory: uniform without a logo is acceptable as long as it matches our chosen colours. In warmer months, blue gingham dresses / black or grey smart shorts can be worn.

All children need to wear sensible shoes (no heels or trainers please). In the colder weather, girls are permitted to wear black, navy or grey tights.

During the last 18 months we have been allowing children to come to school in PE kits on their allocated PE days. This has meant that children have not had to waste time getting changed and also means we do not have the added complication of finding spaces to do this from Year 3 upwards as we usually need to separate the boys and girls at this age. We are going to continue allowing children to come in PE kits on their PE days. If they have an after-school sports club, they will need to bring a separate kit to get changed into.

For P.E. children need plain black or navy shorts or jogging bottoms or plain black or navy leggings (no logos) and a plain, white t-shirt. They also need trainers and a navy blue / black jumper / fleece for outside P.E.

If children forget to wear kit or have incorrect kit on PE days, we will ask them to get changed into one of our clean spare kits. The expectation would be that they bring this home and return the clean kit to school as soon as possible.

Please note we only allow stud earrings and ask that all other jewellery is left at home. Earrings will be taped up just before PE, to ensure safety at all times.

Nail varnish is not permitted in school and the school does not permit children to have extreme haircuts that could serve as a distraction to other children and are not in keeping with the ethos of the school. This includes patterns shaved into the hair, excessive use of hair products and false hair. The definition of an extreme hairstyle is at the discretion of the Headteacher.

School kit

We do not have cloakrooms outside of the classrooms and hence the space available for children to store coats and bags is limited. Please refrain from buying them huge school bags. School supplies everything they need in lessons, so there is no need for pencil cases, notebooks and they certainly will not have time for toys please.

Thank you for your support in this area. We are a ‘SMART’ school and we want all children to feel part of our team whilst wearing our ‘SMART’ uniforms.

Covid update 05/07/2021

Dear Parents/Carers,

It is so lovely to have all classes back in school today. We have everything crossed that we do not have to shut any more bubbles between now and the end of term.

Many schools across Telford are having to deal with virus issues as figures continue to rise.

The ruling around bubble closures and testing remains the same for schools until the end of term. We hope that new rules from the Government will be announced over the summer, so that we have less drastic measures enforced concerning isolation.

Please help us to keep our school virus free. It is clear that this variant is more easily transmissible and it seems that lots of cases are passing from parents to children, with contacts then coming into school.

We are asking now that you look really closely not only at your own children’s health, but that of everybody that lives in the household. If you suspect anyone as having symptoms, please be cautious and keep everyone at home, then get tested straight away. We would rather one child missed a day, than potentially 30 or 60 children missing 10 days of education/face to face interaction.

We are continuing our twice weekly staff testing and maintaining our covid procedures in school in an attempt to keep everyone safe and all classes operational. We also ensure that any visitors to school also provide evidence of testing and observe all of our protective measures which are in place.

We really do understand how disruptive school bubble closures can be for children, parents and staff.

Thank you for your continued support.

Reminder about additional copies of reports

Reminder – End of year reports will be sent home with your child on 9th July.   If an additional copy is required by a parent who does not live at the child’s home address, you must contact the school office on 387720 to make a request by no later than Monday 5th July.

Please ensure that you keep your copy of the report safe, especially if your child is in Year 5.  Some secondary schools (such as Thomas Telford) require a copy to be sent with the application for Year 7 places and we will be unable to make further copies for you once they have been archived.

Update: 28.6.21

Dear Parents/Carers,

Unfortunately we have had 2 more positive cases in school (not related to any previous cases we have had).

Thank fully our online learning offer is established and that teachers can switch rapidly to avoid children missing more of their education.

If your child is any of the bubbles that have been told to isolate, yet you are finding it difficult to gain online access, please call the school and we will do all we can to help.

Our procedures in school are as tight as they have ever been and we hope that this outbreak has rapidly been brought under control.

As ever, if your children are displaying signs of illness, or in fact if anyone in your house is showing signs of illness, please play it safe and keep children off and get them tested.

This virus variant seems to display itself with a headache and cold like symptoms.

Luckily due to timings, the bubbles sent home today will be welcome back next Monday, so thankfully only miss 4 more ‘in school’ days where they have to isolate.

The Newdale team will continue to work so hard in ensuring the online offer is as high a standard as possible.

Thank you for your ongoing understanding and support.
