Star of the week

Once again we have been blown away with all of your fantastic work this week. You are trying so hard and it is so lovely to see all of the fantastic work you are doing at home with your parents. We loved seeing all of your fantastic phonics, brilliant doubling and halving and super Geography work.

As your parents have become your new teachers and are doing such a wonderful job we thought they could award you with your star of the week certificate. Please let us know via Evidence Me or the Year R Blog why you are so proud of your child this week. Please find attached a copy of a Star of the Week Certificate.

All that is left to say is

VE Day Junk Modelling Challenge

As it is VE Day tomorrow, you may like to take part in a JUNK MODELLING CHALLENGE that has been launched by the museum at RAF Cosford. The challenge is to build your very own aircraft, using whatever you can find around your home! In school, pupils from Nursery to Year 6 love junk modelling so I am sure many children would love to have a go at this at home – it would even be a nice project for siblings, or whole families, to work on together! 🛫🛫

The competition deadline is Thursday 14th May. To enter your aircraft, all you need to do is post a photo of your creation in the comments on the competition post, which can be found at ‘The Royal Air Force Museum, Cosford‘ Facebook page. Alternatively, you can share your photo using the tag ‘@rafmuseum‘ on Facebook.

Good Luck!! ☘

Miss McCullagh’s Stars ⭐⭐⭐

I would like to say another big WELL DONE to everyone in Year 1! You have all worked so, so hard again this week and blown our socks off with all of your brilliant efforts at home school. A big thank you to you all (children and grown-ups!) for trying your best to have a go at the home learning activities and for sharing your work with us!

I would like to give a special shout-out to these children… you can read why on their certificates! 🙂🙂

I am already thinking about who could get a certificate next Friday… could it be you? 😎

Have a lovely weekend everyone! 🌞 🥳

Isla’s great effort towards her home learning.

Ella for her creativity and dedication towards her home learning.

And everyone else in my class for being superstars!

Enjoy Bank Holiday Friday tomorrow!

Thursday’s phonics challenge

Today I thought it would be fun to play the following game.  Set up some planets on the floor (pieces of paper or cushions) and explain that your child is going to be a rocket.  They fly to the next planet if they tell you the sounds in the object you are holding up.  If you held up a mug they would shout “m”, “u”, “g”.  By telling you the sounds they travel to the next planet where you could hold up a pen, hat, doll, bag and so on.  When they reach the last planet they could perhaps have a reward?

Nursery Activities Thursday 7th May

Good morning nursery,

The suggested activities for today will be the last in this format for this week as tomorrow is our bank holiday for VE Day. You can find activities for VE day on our nursery news page.

The activities today are using the environment to make your own woodland. We are also looking at the life cycle of a plant. The sun is shining again for us so we are able to take part in these outside in our gardens if we can.

Year 1 Guided Reading – Thursday 7th May

Hi Year 1,

Friday is a very special day – it is called VE Day. On VE Day, people will have lots of celebrations and we even get a day off from doing our school work so that we can learn more about this special day! Your Guided Reading task today is slightly different because you have got a non-fiction text all about VE Day to read – this will help you find out a little bit more about it, so that you are ready for Friday!

Once you have read the text and had a go at the questions, you may like to create a VE Day picture. Here is a colouring page you could use:

We hope you have enjoyed learning about the weather – we have enjoyed seeing your fantastic weather charts coming in.

Today’s learning is about the ‘Seasons’. Can you guess which season is being shown by looking out for visual clues in the PowerPoint attached.Seasons PPT

Thursday-Four-Seasons-Tree-Drawing-Template_ver_2

You may like to do you own further research about seasons. Then can you use or adapt the sheets attached. Get creative and transform the trees into how they would appear in each season. You may want to use colours, paint or collage for this activity. Then choose one (or more if desired) season you would like to research and write about in more detail.

On PurpleMash you will find a Seasons Quiz to prove your knowledge.

Have fun. Have a fantastic VE Day bank holiday and a lovely, sunny weekend everybody!
