Merry Christmas!

Dear Parents/Carers,

We have finally made it to the last day of a very long term. It was so lovely to see the children in the hall this morning enjoying a snowball fight as part of our fun, seasonal activities.

We promise you we will hand them back this afternoon all super excited and ready for the big day!

With the Panto and the numerous events we have had this half term, it really has flown by. Thank you for all of the support you have shown the teams at Newdale along the way. It really does make a huge difference. We take our partnership with parents very seriously.

From all of the staff at Newdale, we wish you a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

We look forward to welcoming your children back on Tuesday 7th January. Staff are carrying out a training day on Monday 6th January.

Dear Parents/Carers,

I messaged out last week concerning the Parent View survey. Thank you so much to the 36 parents who have found the time to do this 5-minute survey. We really do appreciate it 😊.

As I said last week, we are very proud to deliver the highest quality of education for your child, along with offering them all of the additional experiences that we feel make our school so unique. We never become complacent and are always striving to further improve what we do.

Curriculum Governors Involvement in School

The Curriculum Committee Governors met on the 11th December 2024. The enjoyed listening to the Upper Phase Leader talk about her role and the impact she has across Year 5 & 6.

They viewed the new Pupil Premium Strategy and questioned the lead on expenditure and the impact expected over the year.

As ever, the Governors really enjoyed talking to the children about their learning. This time, the theme was Religious Education. The Governors agreed that the children all enjoy this subject and were able to confidently articulate their learning so far this year and from previous years.

Finally, the Governors spent time looking at parent and pupil voice information linked to our Breakfast and Afterschool club. Governors were reassured that the offer we have is robust and looked on favourably by both parents and children. During the next meeting Governors are going to look at our Science curriculum.

Reading in Reception

The children in Reception have been working so hard and they are making great progress with their phonics and reading. Lots of children are now starting to bring home books/sheets to practise reading at home.

The phonics books that the children bring home need to be kept in their reading packs so they can be accessed at school each day, and swapped for new ones each week. Usually, book change takes place on a Friday, but this varies between groups depending on where they are up to in their sessions. These books are to be read to an adult, not independently. They are used to develop fluency. If the book is not returned to school, we cannot swap it for the next one. The blending books are particularly small and easy to lose, so keep an eye out as they slide out the packs. When children move onto Red books and higher, they will bring home two books, a bookbag book and a paper copy of the book they have read in class. Both these books need storing in their packs and returning to school each day to be swapped when ready.
