Message from Miss Cook

Clarification 6.2.21

Dear Nursey Parents,

As I hope you have heard, we are having to shut the entire nursery on Monday to children and staff.

All children in the 2 year old provision (Ladybugs) need to self isolate as we have had a number of staff unfortunately test positive for the virus. Someone from school will contact you on Monday with more details.

All children in our 3 year old provision (Mighty Oaks) need to remain off on Monday (many conclude their self isolation period at midnight on Monday). It is likely that some children in this room will be welcomed back on Tuesday after their self isolation period has ended. We need to spend time looking at direct contacts of the positive cases and making sure we have enough staff available to fully open this room.

We know this is a complete inconvenience for many parents and we do apologise. Our nursery is having a run of bad luck. Thankfully our twice weekly testing is helping identify staff rapidly, so we can take action and hopefully avoid any further spread. Both rooms will undergo a thorough clean on Monday.

We recommend you getting a test for your own peace of mind, even if no one in your family is displaying symptoms.

As I say, someone will call you on Monday to give you further details. Let’s hope this is the last hurdle we have to jump before things get back to normal.

ART DAY Monday 8th February

A reminder that Monday (8th February) is ART DAY at Newdale!  🎨

Your class teachers will have already sent you the options of things to take part in for this day, so we hope you have had a look and selected which creative activities you would most like to do! We can’t wait to see them.

Don’t forget that one option was the handprint art, along with Grandparent handprints and that you may even like to host your own virtual/telephone tea-party with grandparents this week.

If your child is in school on Monday, then they are welcome to bring in their Grandparent’s handprints (digital, posted outlines, etc) into school to complete in class. Please remember to name the back of them so we know which hands belong to who!

Have fun everybody 🤗

The Value of the Month for February is Caring.

Please see below a copy of the next Storytime Magazine. This edition is themed ‘Caring For Others’ – featuring The Friendly Lion & Hercules and the Stinky Foot.

Each issue of We Are Heroes contains myths and legends that have parallels to lockdown experiences that children could be facing, with additional activities produced in consultation with a children’s mental health expert.

Update 3.2.21

Dear Parents/Carers,

Firstly I would like to thank you all for supporting us so well with the online learning offer we have running at the moment. This learning is accessed by all children in school and with your help, all children at home.

It is so important that your children engage with every lesson. Teachers continue to spend a lot of time planning sessions that we hope will result in the children making the progress they deserve over this prolonged time out of school. Please rest assured that the lessons that are being delivered to children at home are the same as the ones which are being delivered in school. Thank you for supporting us in keeping your children home if you are able to.

We are already planning the priority learning and effective ways forward when they eventually do return, but in the meantime all we ask is that you make sure your children tune into all lessons every day. This includes the children who may be in school for part of the week – when they are not in school, they are expected to log into the lessons from home.

Many of us are parents and certainly share your pain when it comes to managing the household and in many cases work commitments on top of this. Of course we will do all we can to help with any digital issues and any other issues that you may have that may affect your children’s learning.

Email us on newdale.primary@taw.org.uk or call us on 01952 387720

We have been made aware that some children are staying attached to devices late on into the night playing games or on social media. Clearly the amount of time they are online learning at school isn’t ideal, but to add to this with hours more screen time could have a detrimental affect on e.g. sleep patterns and moods.

Again, I have two teenage children myself and know it is hard to peel them off devices, but also see the need to set boundaries and limit this time. Simply insisting they go on a walk could be a nice way to get them outside in the fresh air.

Numbers of cases in our area are thankfully coming down slowly. We cannot afford to relax however. We had another case in our Nursery this week despite the very best routines and risk management. Cases thankfully do not get the chance to spread, as we have systems in place to prevent this from happening.

Please remember you can get a precautionary test at any time even if you don’t have symptoms. https://rapidtest.telford.gov.uk/ All staff at Newdale test a minimum of twice a week to support our drive in keeping the virus out of our school community.

Thank you for your ongoing support and fingers crossed we continue to see more positive news across our borough in the coming days and weeks.

Please note that the filling in of this form does not guarantee you a place.

A member of school staff will contact you Friday afternoon to inform you if we can safely offer your child/ren a place.  If we are unable to, we will support you in directing you to the remote learning offer we have in place.

ART DAY MONDAY 8TH FEBRUARY

We are delighted to announce that on Monday 8th February we are holding an Art Day! This is for both the children in school and those who are learning from home.

Your class teachers will be posting the activities for you to access at home either on the website or via your Google Classroom this week so you will have plenty of time to get prepared (we have however, tried to think of ways to get creative without an abundance of resources. You will hopefully have most of the things you need already available at home.)

We have included a range of ideas such as laundry art, and pencil sketching amongst other things, so that you can simply choose the things that you like best. We have included things that your child should be able to do independently to provide you with some much needed time.

One idea that we would love for you to take part in is our ‘Handprint’ art, in which we are hoping to make a display of back in school. Details will be on your year group sheet. You can draw round and decorate your handprint in any way you like and with whatever you have, e.g pens, pencils, buttons, paper, bits of material, glitter etc.

We are aware that normally we would be holding our annual Grandparents’ tea-party at this time of year and that unfortunately not only can we not do this  at the moment, but for many of us, we are unable to see Grandparents’ currently. Therefore, we thought if you would like to and are able to, you might like to also create a Grandparent handprint to decorate. You could do this by asking them to send a handprint image of their hand digitally, or they could even draw round their hand and post it to you which you could decorate when quarantined. If this is something they can’t do, you can always draw your own version to represent their handprint.

One final suggestion, to keep the tradition going if at all possible, is to set up your own virtual tea-party with Grandparents’ at home. Have a cup of tea and a piece of cake together and just enjoy having a chat as we would have done if possible back in school. You could do this via a video call, or even a normal telephone call.

We would love to know how you get on.

Have a great day everybody and get creative!
