E-safety Top Tip!

Do you know enough about the apps that your children play on?

It is important that parents monitor what their children are using when they access the Internet, whether it is on a mobile phone, laptop or tablet.

The NSPCC have created a useful website called Net Aware, where you can easily search for apps to find out more about them.  The guide explains what the app is used for and also shares the official age rating for the app.

This is a great tool to use to help your children to stay safe when using the Internet.

Value of the Month- June

Thank you for all your support with the value of the month for May, which was Perseverance. Throughout May, children learnt the importance of not giving up even when faced with a problem and trying their best in all situations.

Our value of the month for June is Honesty.

What is Honesty?

  1. Being truthful to others.
  2. Being truthful to yourself.
  3. Doing what’s right regardless of who’s around.
  4. Being someone others can trust.

Suggestions for parents to work with children at home:

  1. Talk with your children about honesty. Try to answer; ‘What is honesty?’ What is the difference between the truth and a lie? Discuss some examples.
  2. Share the story of the boy who cried wolf. Talk about a time when someone told you something that wasn’t true. How did it make you feel? Do you trust that person to tell you the truth now? Why or why not?
  3. Talk about promises the children have made or promises others have made to them. How serious is a promise? How does it feel when someone breaks a promise?
  4. Who are the most honest people you know? How do you know they are honest? How do you feel about these people?
  5. Talk about a situation where you or they have been worried about telling the truth about something because you thought it would get you into trouble.
  6. Watch a movie, such as The Lion King or Pinocchio, in which honesty and truthfulness are major themes. Encourage your child to talk about ways the main characters demonstrate honesty and dishonesty.

Please let your child’s teacher know if we can celebrate any work from home on the school website.

Baker & sons- School uniform shop

From the 1st June our plan is to re open our retail outlet in Wellington, Telford. To ensure that we are able to operate in a safe and controlled environment we will be implementing the following changes this summer.

The main entrance to the store will be now through our rear entrance located off the parade (next to Midnights nightclub) This will allow us to operate a one way system exiting the shop from the front door onto the high street.

The store will be operating an appointment only system from the 1st June. These slots are available to book online through our website, facebook page, bakerandsonschoolwear.booksy.com or the Booksy app can be downloaded onto your smart phone and search for Baker and Son Schoolwear. No entry will be allowed without a prior booking This system will go live on Friday 29th May once we have confirmation, we can re-open.

Our opening hours during June and July will be Monday- Saturday 9am – 4.30pm. During August will be operating extended opening hours. 8am – 7.30pm.

Only two customers will be allowed instore per booking with a total of 10 customers allowed in store at any one time. If you need to shop for more than one child a separate booking will need to be made.

There is plenty of capacity of appointments for everyone to have throughout June, July and August to purchase your childs uniform. We hope everyone will be sensible and respectful when making a appointment and not to make unnecessary appointments. Bookings will be cancelled from the system if we believe that appointment slots are being misused.

Masks, gloves and hand sanitizer will be at the entrance of the shop, The hand sanitizer must be used before entering the store.

Following government advice, clothing will not be allowed to be tried on in store and changing rooms will be closed. Tape measures will be available instore to use, which will be cleaned and sanitized after every use.

If clothing needs to be exchanged once they’ve been tried on at home, there will be an exchange station at the new entrance using a separate queue. A member of staff will assist you, no appointment is required to exchange items.

If you require a refund, we would ask where possible to return these once schools have started back in September.

For anyone who is confident with sizing and only requires a bigger size we would request if possible to purchase these items using our website www.bakerandsonschoolwear.co.uk

We anticipate we may encounter stock issues from manufactures this summer due to the pandemic. We will work tirelessly to ensure minimum impact to our customers. If there is an item out of stock, we will take your order instore and post to you when it comes back in stock.

Year 6 Information

Dear Parents/Carers of children in Year 6,

As you know we are encouraging children to travel to and from school independently where possible. We understand that you may well want your child to carry a phone with them as additional security. Please remind them to turn phones off when they enter our site. We need to make you aware that we will not be collecting phones in and storing them in the office as we used to do previously. This is to reduce risks of infection. We will be asking children to leave phones in their bags and need to make you aware that this would be at your own risk, as we cannot guarantee their security over this time.

School Update – 26th May 2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

Just so you know, we have our finger firmly on the pulse regarding information that is coming out on a daily basis. We are watching and we are listening…

I know that there is countrywide uncertainty and that school staff up and down the country are scratching their heads with mixed feelings.

Right from the start, we have put our faith in the DfE and that is because of their decisions being ‘informed by the best possible scientific and medical advice.’

We remain impartial by way of political views and we steer clear of other views so as to remain as clear as possible when decision making. We need to trust the experts in science and disease in these times, and we trust that the Government are talking to those people that know more than we certainly do.

So the plan at Newdale remains in line with the latest DfE release…

Schools, colleges and nurseries across England remain on track to open to more children from 1 June, the Prime Minister confirmed today (24 May 2020).

Primary schools will welcome back children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 6, while nurseries and other early years providers will begin welcoming back children of all ages.

In line with our roadmap setting out how the UK will adjust its response to the virus, our approach to schools remains a cautious, phased one. It is also broadly in line with other European countries.

We continue to consider all the evidence, as we said we would, and will continue to work with schools, teachers and unions over the coming week before making a final decision.

It also remains the case that schools will only reopen to more children if the government’s five tests are met by Thursday 28 May.

In the coming days, the Prime Minister will set out the government’s progress in meeting these five tests, which are:

  1. Protect the NHS’s ability to cope. We must be confident that we are able to provide sufficient critical care and specialist treatment right across the UK
  2. See a sustained and consistent fall in the daily death rates from COVID-19 so we are confident that we have moved beyond the peak
  3. Reliable data from SAGE showing that the rate of infection is decreasing to manageable levels across the board
  4. Be confident that the range of operational challenges, including testing capacity and PPE, are in hand, with supply able to meet future demand
  5. Be confident that any adjustments to the current measures will not risk a second peak of infections that overwhelms the NHS

Today’s announcement comes after a constructive period of consultation with schools, teachers and unions, led by the Education Secretary Gavin Williamson.

Clear, detailed guidance has been published by the Department for Education on how schools can open in a way which is safe for children, teachers and parents.

While we recognise that full social distancing may not be possible, our guidance sets out a range of measures to protect children and staff. This includes:

  • reducing the size of classes and keeping children in small groups without mixing with others
  • staggered break and lunch times, as well as drop offs and pickups
  • increasing the frequency of cleaning, reducing the used of shared items and utilising outdoor space

Education Secretary Gavin Williamson said:

Our priority is the education and welfare of all children and young people across the country. That is why we want to start a phased wider opening of nurseries, school and colleges is informed by the best possible scientific and medical advice.

We will continue to work with the sector to support them to prepare for wider opening and ensure all children and young people can continue to receive the best care, education and training possible.

 Thursday 28th May is the final decision day and we wait to hear what is said on this day and immediately action plan following the release. We are all set to open to Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 (to those children whose parents selected ‘yes’ in our survey) on the 1st June and we are lucky enough to be big enough to accommodate the year groups they suggest. That said, if the advice is to remain cautious or delay, that is exactly what we will do.
