Year 1 Rewards ⭐🌈

We are so proud of all the super work you have been doing at home and it has really been cheering us up to see how hard you have all been trying!  At school, when you try your best you sometimes get stickers as a special treat! We thought you might like some stickers to use as rewards for super work at home. These could be printed and stuck on using sticky tape, or you may even like to create your own sticker chart and see how many stickers you can collect during your home learning! If you don’t have a printer, you could design your own stickers! (this could even be a special art lesson at home to design and colour your own sticker page).

Keep up with the excellent work,

Miss McCullagh and Miss Hailey

Some Literacy ideas for tomorrow…

Imagine you are Paddington on his trip to London. Can you write a postcard back home to your family in darkest Peru? We would love to see your work on the blog or via the Y1 email.

We have also  put a typing game on PurpleMash to help you get faster at typing. Can you find the letters in time?

Phonics in Year 1

One of the year 1 sounds is ‘mb’ . In this sound the b is silent! It can usually be found at the end of a word, like in lamb, comb, climb etc.

Have go at this worksheet attached. If you cannot print this off, you may like to copy some of the words or sentences onto your own paper at home.

Finally, just for fun there are some great little tutorials on how to draw Paddington Bear on YouTube if your child would like to do something Arty in the afternoon.

It has been lovely to hear how active some of you keeping, doing your own PE at home – so keep it up!

Thursday 26th March – Year 1 Maths Activity

Well done to those children who managed to have a go at the 1 more and 1 less activity on PurpleMash. The game is still open so you could continue to practise today :)

Here is today’s Maths activity:

We are really loving seeing all of your fantastic work on the blog, the email and on PurpleMash. Well done everyone!

Don’t forget to also try to complete two afternoon projects per week. The afternoon projects sheet has been posted on the blog and is also in your paper packs. You may also like to have a look at the Guided Reading activity posted on Wednesday.

Best wishes,

Miss McCullagh 😊

Year 1 Guided Reading – Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th March

We have found a lovely story that we would like to share with you at home. The story is an e-book so you can listen to it being read – using a tablet, laptop or phone. On the document below, you will find lots of questions and fun activities that you could do at home, based on this story. You may like to spread the activities over two days.

A Monster Surprise Questions and Activities

One of the activities asks you to design your own monster, using the monster body parts on this sheet.

Roll and Build your own Monster

I even had at go at this activity at home, after I had listened to the story! Here is the monster I designed using the dice game. I would love to see some of your monster creations on the blog too – or you could e-mail them to us!

Keep up with all the brilliant work!

Best wishes,

Year 1 Team 😃

Wednesday 25th March – Year 1 Maths activity

Hi everyone,

For your maths lesson today, we would like you to have a look at what finding one more or one less might look like on a number line (focus on understanding which way we would jump on a number line when we are adding or taking away).  There are two number line challenges below – these could either be printed or copied onto paper.

Following this, a PurpleMash activity has been set to practise finding the answer to number sentences that add 1 or subtract 1.  There are two challenges here; finding one more or one less with numbers up to 21,  or with numbers up to 101 (you may like to start with the first one, then move to the second once your child is secure with numbers up to 21).

You may also like to have a go at this fun helicopter game – using a computer or a tablet. You must listen to the instructions, then help to save the people by finding the answers.  There are 4 levels to choose from. The game can be found at this website:

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/chopper-squad

I hope you enjoy these maths games today!

More phonics support…

We hope you are finding Miss Hammond’s videos helpful, along with the Read, Write, Inc videos we advertised yesterday.

Another fantastic help in this difficult time is provided by the website: https://new.phonicsplay.co.uk/

Your child will be familiar with some of their games. They are now providing FREE games.

Year 1 Home Schooling Wednesday 25th March

A massive well done to everyone busy working at home! It has been such a joy to see some of your work on PurpleMash, on the homework blog and even directly to the new Year 1 email address. Please keep them coming :)

Here are some suggested Literacy activities for Wednesday…

A new 2Do has been set on PurpleMash. This links in to work we have been learning in  class recently. We have been learning all about suffixes (word endings). A really fun game is available to drag the word that would make most sense in the sentence.

If you would rather a paper alternative, then you could print the attached sheets or use them as a guide to create you own sentences on paper at home.

Suffixes Worksheet

Also keep practising your spellings everyday. Have fun.
