Monday 23rd March in KS1 Hub 🙂

We had a great first day in the KS1 hub. We made the most of the lovely weather and went on a little walk around the school grounds. We used our senses to describe the things we could see, hear, smell and feel and challenged ourselves to write descriptions using two adjectives and a comma. When we returned, we spent some time in the sunshine and drew a picture of some of the things we had seen. We also spent some time practising our spellings and playing a 1 more or 1 less Maths game. As a special treat, at the end of the day, we got to play a board game outside.

We would love to see some of the learning and outdoor activities that you have been doing at home – you can share your work and photos on the blog 🙂

Tuesday 24th March – Year 1 Maths activity

Hello Year 1,

I hope you worked hard to practise finding 1 more and 1 less yesterday. Today, you have got another 1 more and 1 less activity to have a go at, as well as a tricky Maths challenge!

Keep up the good work everyone! :)

Year 1 and 2 Phonics Support at Home!

Here is a helpful video from Miss Hammond. She has created a video to help you continue practising your sounds at home! We hope you find it useful.

Year 1 Phonics and Literacy Tuesday 24th March 2020

Hello,

We hope you have been enjoying the sunshine and getting plenty of fresh air and exercise. It has been great to see some wonderful work on Purple Mash.

A new 2Do has been set for Literacy for Year 1 pupils today. We would like you to interview Paddington Bear! Last week in Literacy, we learnt all about using a question mark when we write a question. We also thought carefully about the words we might use to start a question, such as what, where, when, who, how etc. Can you write some questions for Paddington? If you want to do this on paper at home then this would be fantastic too. What do you think his answers would be? Can you make sure the question mark is the right way round?

For phonics, continue to practise your sounds and spellings. Then you could use the ‘Picnic on Pluto’ game to sound and out read real and nonsense words. We play this lots in school.

Keep your eyes peeled on the website as Miss Hammond is creating her very own videos to practise phonics at home.

Don’t forget to refer to the afternoon activity sheet and also try some of the mindfulness and exercise ideas previously posted.

Keep up the great work everyone.

Year 1 Phonics and Literacy Monday 23rd March 2020

Here are some ideas for phonics and Literacy for your Year 1 child for today.

Phonics

Work through your phonics linked spelling grid provided by school (or found on our spelling page). This is a great opportunity to practise handwriting at the same time. Ruth Miskin’s Read, Write, Inc (the flashcard resources we use in school) are scheduling FREE Read, Write, Inc phonics lessons on Facebook and YouTube for the next two weeks.

Set 1 speed sounds 9.30 and 12.30

Set 2 speed sounds 10.00 and 1.00

Set 3 speed sounds 10.30 and 1.30

Please note, these are streamed live and unavailable at other times.

If you invested in the flashcards, please do practise these daily to help shift them into the long term memory!

Literacy

Last week we learnt about adding adjectives into our sentences to make our writing more exciting! We even learnt how to separate more than one adjective with a comma. For example, Paddington Bear has a big, floppy hat.

Can you draw a fantastic picture of Paddington today? Then could you write some sentences underneath your picture to describe what he is like?

We would love to see your super writing posted on the homework blog, or you could email a picture to us directly.

Lots of love, Joe x

Year 1 Afternoon Project Ideas

Today, children who were in school will have brought home a pack. Within this pack you will find a sheet which has a selection of afternoon project ideas that you may choose to complete as part of your learning at home.  We have also included a digital copy of this sheet here for those who were not at school today.

Year 1 Afternoon Project Ideas

Some of these projects are links to activities on PurpleMash. Each child has their log in details and information on logging into their PurpleMash accounts in their diaries. However, for those without this information please see the picture below. If you need any more help on finding your child’s log in details, please do not hesitate to email Miss Hailey and Miss McCullagh on the email address provided in the post below.

Thank you!

Year R and Year 1 Information

You may have seen advice that children can communicate with their teacher through the PurpleMash email facilities. We have decided, however that for the youngest children in school it would be more appropriate for parents to email their child’s class teacher directly through our new Year 1 and Year R email addresses. These have been set up so that should you have any questions you can ask us on your child’s behalf, or if you want to share any work this way, that would be great too.

Purplemash can still be used for all the amazing online resources it offers (your child has their login in their reading diaries) and we will be setting 2Do tasks on there too, so do please keep using it.

Here are the new email addresses for communication with Reception and Year 1 staff only:

newdale.year1team@taw.org.uk

newdale.yearrteam@taw.org.uk

Thank you for your ongoing support at home.
