Google Classroom

Dear Parents/Carers,

I understand that some of you have been having issues connecting onto Classroom from home so I have created a document to run you through step by step which is attached below. I cannot stress enough how important it is that your child enters their username and password carefully using the correct punctuation and capital letters where necessary. I hope this helps. If not then please email through Purple Mash.

Thanks,

Mr Banfield

Daily Maths Activities

Dear Parents/Carers

Alongside the Purple Mash project that we have set this morning, we would like the children to be completing shorter daily activities which will revise key concepts from the Year 5 curriculum. These resources have been designed to allow children to work independently to watch a video, complete the activities and mark their own work.

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-5/

Step 1: Watch the video for the day’s lesson.

Step 2: Click “Get the Activity” for a downloadable PDF which will test your child’s understanding of the mathematical skill. This could be printed or just completed on paper. Please upload a photo to the homework blog or as an attachment in a Purple Mash email to your class teacher.

Step 3: Click “Get the Answers” in order to check your child’s understanding.

Please commence on “Week 1” and follow the scheme, completing one lesson per day.

If you wish to complete other Maths activities, we strongly recommend going back to Year 3 and Year 4 activities in order to revise all skills which are tested in Year 6.

We always appreciate your support at home and have been really impressed by how much effort has been put into home learning in these strange times.

Best wishes,

Year 5

Cupcakes

In the spirit of “waste not want not,” KS2 Hub made some little cupcakes this afternoon. Given all the running around we did whilst playing cricket, these were well-earned!

iPad Art

KS2 have been out in the sunshine finding interesting shapes. We have been using “Markup” to create line drawings on top of the photos.

Free PE workouts from home

Join me every day next week for a home workout 😀
Starting Monday 23rd March I’m going to be hosting a free workout aimed at kids LIVE on my YouTube channel.

With the schools closed and with us all spending more time at home, it’s more important than ever that we keep moving and stay healthy and positive.

Exercise is an amazing tool to help us feel happier, more energised, and more optimistic.

The workouts will be fun and suitable for all ages and even adults can get involved.

You don’t need any equipment, just tune in to my YouTube channel at 9am each morning for a 30-minute, fun workout.

One more thing! I really need your help to spread this message. So please please share this with everyone that might like to get involved, and together we can help keep the nation moving 🙏🏻

You can subscribe to my YouTube channel at the button below.

Lots of love, Joe x

Key home-learning information for Year 5

Dear Parents/Carers,

We have attached some guidance for the learning we would like the children to be completing over the coming weeks. Newdale Primary School are committed to ensuring your child is still learning as much as possible and endeavour to do our absolute best to keep this happening. We will be able to communicate via the school website where you will find homework tasks in the usual place on our year 5 page. In addition, we will be able to track and mark completed work via PurpleMash. All logins can be found in your child’s reading diary.

The children practised sending emails to us today via PurpleMash (which is a secure site). They will therefore be able to directly contact any of the year 5 team with any questions they might have. Further to this, there is a range of activities and educational games on PurpleMash that the children love to play! Mrs Clarke and Mrs Stack will also be monitoring reading, spelling and times tables homework through the Homework Blog, PurpleMash and Times Table Rock Stars.

Finally, if there is anything that the children would like to share with us that is paper based, they could keep their work in a folder or wallet to bring back into school with them on our return. They could also share any photographs on the year 5 blog page. The password for which is blogpassword (all one word).

We would like to thank you all for your support in helping your child continue to learn and we will ensure that we continue to cater for them remotely.

Thank you from the year 5 team,

Miss Myler, Mr Banfield, Mrs Clarke and Mrs Stack.

More information for key workers

Dear Parents / Carers,

We are still awaiting the list of who qualifies as a key worker. Thank you to all of those families who have returned their forms already.

We are now required to ask you what your partners job is, as we are being led to believe that in order to qualify for a school place, BOTH parents need to be in Key Worker professions. Please note that we may require evidence of the role you play and how that fits the description of a Key Worker.

Please could you return this information to school as soon as possible, if you have not already done so, to help us to continue to plan.

Thank you for your support
