Easter Raffle 2020

 We are holding an Easter Egg Raffle on Friday 3rd April 2020, £1 per strip.  Please go to the school office to buy tickets, all proceeds will go towards purchasing a fire shelter for the base camp area in school.

Thank you to Magna for donating the very large chocolate Easter egg. If you would like to donate an Easter egg, please hand into the school office.

Value of the Month- March

Thank you for all your support with the value of the month for February, which was Caring. At Newdale it is wonderful to watch the children display their caring sides whilst in class and out on the playground.

Our value of the month for March is Belief

What are beliefs?
Trust, faith, or confidence in (someone or something)

Our focus on Beliefs has three strands:

· Believing in our own abilities and encouraging the abilities of others.
· Being able to understand that not everyone shares the same belief.
· Being able discuss reasons why we believe in the things we do

Suggestions for parents to work with children at home:

Discuss what the word means:
– Accepting that something is true/exists
– Having trust, faith or confidence in someone/something
– Self-belief – trust in your own abilities

Discuss with your child who they trust the most and why. Explain that this means they have belief in their abilities to care and look out for them.
Explore different religions; explain that people have different beliefs and that we should respect them even if their beliefs are different to their own.
Self-belief- discuss with your child how they feel about their learning and other skills and attributes. Talk about what they could do when faced with a challenge. It’s important that children learn the importance of perseverance even when faced with difficulties.
One of our British Values is Democracy. You could talk to your child about the purpose of Parliament. Discuss the importance of voting, and the fact that individuals vote for parties they believe will do an effective job in government.

Please let your child’s teacher know if we can celebrate any work from home, in school.

Miss Clay’s class- Jacob for working hard towards SATs at home and in school.

Mrs Thomas’ class- Milly for producing some fantastic writing- a future estate agent…!

Mr Banfield’s class- Olaf for following the SMART code and making school enjoyable for visitors to our classroom.

Miss Myler’s class- Sophie for always bringing a smile to everyone’s face!

Mr Jackson’s class- Roland for impeccable behaviour, always being beautifully polite and caring to others in the class.

Miss Macfarlane’s class- Matthew of working really hard with his reading at home.

Mrs Pablos/ Mrs McLaughlin’s class- Erica for brilliant analogue time telling.

Mrs Trevor’s class- Gabriella for progressing in class with the quality and quantity of her work but most importantly her enthusiasm towards reading at home. Keep it up, we are proud of you!

Miss Newport’s class- Sophie for fantastic attitude towards all of her learning and for always smiling.

Miss Jones’ class- Alfie for great effort in his handwriting and for being polite to everyone!

Miss Hailey’s class- Karlie for having a fantastic week, working really hard in all subjects.

Miss McCullagh’s class- Noah for having a brilliant attitude towards your learning and producing a fantastic piece of independent writing.

Mrs Plimmer’s class- Max for Dot Dash Robot work.

Adult achievement awards

Evie in year 3 would like to nominate Mrs Trevor, ‘for always making lessons fun’.

Miss Hailey would like to nominate Mrs Huda, as she has been really supportive in year 1. She is calm and welcoming to everyone, and she has endless patience!

Smart cup winners

Miss Myler’s class as they have approached some really tricky concepts positively and they have had a great first week back because of it.

Star reader year 1,2,3- Megan from year 3 for reading well at home and for always being really keen to read with adults in school.

Star reader year 4,5,6- Adan from year 5 for reading eight times over half term and has also read four times this week. Amazing dedication and hard work.

Sports after school clubs

All sports clubs are now live on Parentpay for after half term. The clubs are as follows;

Monday- KS1 Football

Tuesday- KS2 Football, Gymnastics

Wednesday- Streetdance, Cross country and Year 2-6 Multi sports

Thursday- Year 2-6 Girls Football

Friday- Year 2-6 Dodgeball

  • Please note that cross country training is only running for 4 weeks.

Achievement Awards

Miss Clay’s class- Raimonds for always working hard and for making super progress in reading, writing and maths.

Mrs Thomas’ class- Leah for enthusiasm towards her learning in year 6- a great attitude, keep it up.

Mr Banfield’s class- Erin deserves the achievement award for demonstrating a great attitude to independent work.

Miss Myler’s class- Harvey for brilliant explanations.

Mr Jackson’s class- Charna-Mai for excellent following of the SMART code and a continued enthusiastic attitude to her learning.

Mrs McLaughlin/ Mrs Pablos’s class- Lily for a massive effort with home reading this week.

Mrs Trevor’s class- Harry for determined to improve his handwriting and presentation and quantity of work in all lessons. His love and enthusiasm for reading at home is shining through, super proud.

Miss Newport’s class- Emeli-may for fantastic effort and enthusiasm in all subjects.

Miss Jones’ class- Kieran for increased speed and a fantastic approach to all areas of his learning.

Miss Hailey’s class- Lilly for working hard all week, especially problem solving in maths.

Miss McCullagh’s class- for being so brave and for showing great determinations.

Mrs Plimmer’s class- Tobias for an excellent chance to shine, using adjectives and paragraphs.

Year 1,2,3 Star Reader– Poppy for lots of home reading, well done!

Year 4,5,6 Star Reader– Olly for reading and making a comment in his diary every night.

 

Safer Internet Day

Each year at Newdale, we take part in Safer Internet Day (SID). This year it will take place on Tuesday 11th February. Your child will engage in a series of activities throughout the day with the aim of learning key ways to keep themselves and others safe online.

Value of the Month- February

Thank you for all your support with the value of the month for January, which was Independence.  We had lots of positive feedback from you about how independent your child/children were at home and it was great to see so many of them carrying their own things into school! The teachers also noticed a big difference in the classroom, as many of the children showed their independent learning side!

Our value of the month for February is Caring 

What is caring?

Feeling concern or interest about someone or something.

Our focus on Caring has three strands:

  • Caring for ourselves, our belongings and our pets.
  • Caring for the environment (indoors and outdoors) by the things we do and how we think.
  • Caring about people (in our families, our friends, others who are different or less fortunate) by our actions.

Suggestions for parents to work with children at home:

  1. Explore what care is and what your child thinks it is.
  2. Talk about what makes a caring person.
  3. Discuss how we care for members of our family.
  4. Ask your child what they can do to show they care about school.
  5. Make a family list- “We show we care for…….by ………..”
  6. Make another list- “I find it difficult to care for………….. when…….”and then take time to discuss each item.
  7. Draw pictures showing people caring for others and the environment in different ways.
  8. Talk about the sort of world we would have if nobody cared.
  9. Identify all the different people who care for us and talk about how they show their feelings.
  10. Discuss feelings– How do you feel when you are caring for someone or something? How do you feel when you decide you don’t really care?
  11. Discuss the importance of personal hygiene e.g. brushing teeth twice a day, bathing etc.
