Nursery Activities Thursday 7th May

Good morning nursery,

The suggested activities for today will be the last in this format for this week as tomorrow is our bank holiday for VE Day. You can find activities for VE day on our nursery news page.

The activities today are using the environment to make your own woodland. We are also looking at the life cycle of a plant. The sun is shining again for us so we are able to take part in these outside in our gardens if we can.

Year 1 Guided Reading – Thursday 7th May

Hi Year 1,

Friday is a very special day – it is called VE Day. On VE Day, people will have lots of celebrations and we even get a day off from doing our school work so that we can learn more about this special day! Your Guided Reading task today is slightly different because you have got a non-fiction text all about VE Day to read – this will help you find out a little bit more about it, so that you are ready for Friday!

Once you have read the text and had a go at the questions, you may like to create a VE Day picture. Here is a colouring page you could use:

We hope you learn lots about VE Day today. Keep your eyes peeled later for some fun, celebration ideas you may like to use on Friday! 🙂

We hope you have enjoyed learning about the weather – we have enjoyed seeing your fantastic weather charts coming in.

Today’s learning is about the ‘Seasons’. Can you guess which season is being shown by looking out for visual clues in the PowerPoint attached.Seasons PPT

You may like to do you own further research about seasons. Then can you use or adapt the sheets attached. Get creative and transform the trees into how they would appear in each season. You may want to use colours, paint or collage for this activity. Then choose one (or more if desired) season you would like to research and write about in more detail.

On PurpleMash you will find a Seasons Quiz to prove your knowledge.

Have fun. Have a fantastic VE Day bank holiday and a lovely, sunny weekend everybody!

Numicon Challenge

Good afternoon nursery, I hope you enjoyed our fun Numicon challenge last week using bricks to represent your one piece of Numicon. Today, I have another challenge for you. It is the opposite this time, instead of using your bricks to represent your Numicon, I would like to see how many Numicon pieces you can use to represent one number.

For my example I chose number 6, you can choose a different number if you like. What happens to the pattern when you put the pieces together like I have? How many times can you make the same number? How many pieces did you use?

You may use more than one of the same (if you are able to print them). For example; to represent my number 6, I could use 6 pieces of my number 1 value.

Let us know how you get on, enjoy 😉

Y4 Science- Animals including Humans

This term, Y4 would have been learning about animals including humans as part of their Science unit.

We’d like children to create a piece of work, which demonstrates their knowledge of this unit. Children can choose how they’d like to present this information e.g. a poem, piece of artwork, a video report etc and upload it onto the Y4 homework blog.

Here is some information to help them: Y4 Science Animals including Humans

Wednesday’s phonics challenge

Today I thought it would be good to get your child moving.  Can you place pieces of paper across the floor, these are going to be your planets, and on them write simple words such as “dog”, “cat”, “pat” and “man”.  Tell your child that they are in a rocket and can only fly to the next planet if they read the word on the one they have landed on by segmenting and blending all of the sounds.  They might look at the word and say “m”, “u”, “g” “mug!”.  When they get to the last planet perhaps they could have a reward?

Year 1 Home Learning Wednesday 6th May 2020

Hello Year 1.

For phonics today, practise your spellings for tomorrow’s test – Miss Hammond is still posting her amazing video’s everyday to help you practise your sounds too! Could you put your spellings into sentences? Here is a colouring activity to print or adapt. Identify the real and nonsense split digraph words.

Today, can you learn about how weather is measured? Lesson Presentation Measuring the Weather

You will remember I mentioned to save a plastic bottle from your recycling. This is so that you can make your very own rain gauge (a piece of equipment to measure how much rainfall we have)! Mum or Dad may need to help you with this. Attached are some instructions to make it. Also attached is a sheet to take measurements of how much rain you collect each day. You could record this on consecutive days or spread it out over a longer time span due to the weather being sunny/showery at the moment. Finally, can you write about how weather affects what activities we can do. What can you do on rainy day? What can you do on a Sunny day? What can you do on a snowy or windy day?

Let us know how you get on!
