🌟 Newdale Nursery Needs You! 🌟

Are you able to spare a little time each week to support our wonderful nursery children?

At Newdale Nursery, we are looking for friendly and reliable volunteers to help in our Mighty Oaks Room (3-4 year olds). Volunteering is a fantastic way to support young children, gain experience in an educational setting, and make a real difference to our nursery community.

🍎 Morning/Afternoon Snack Time Support Volunteer

Duties include:

  • Collecting fruit and vegetables from the central supply area.
  • Organising fruit into baskets and delivering them to tables.
  • Delivering cups and milk to tables.
  • Loading the dishwasher after snack time.
  • Supporting children with handwashing and safe lining up.

Times Available:

  • 9:00am – 9:30am daily
  • 1:45pm – 2:15pm daily

👩‍🍳 Cooking Support Volunteer

Duties include:

  • Supporting staff to collect cooking resources.
  • Gathering ingredients for activities.
  • Loading the dishwasher.
  • Cleaning tables after sessions.
  • Supporting children with handwashing and lining up safely.

Times Available:

  • Fridays: 9:30am – 10:30am
  • Fridays: 1:00pm – 1:45pm

Pick up and drop off times

We would like to remind all parents and carers to park and drive considerately during school drop-off and collection times.

We have recently received concerns from local residents regarding vehicles entering and using a private driveway on Maxfield Crescent for turning, waiting, or parking. We respectfully ask all families to avoid entering any private driveways, parking spaces, or residential land when bringing children to and from school.

We appreciate that the location of our school is not always ideal in terms of accessibility and that parking can be challenging at busy times of the day. However, we ask all members of our school community to be mindful of our neighbours and to avoid causing disruption or inconvenience to local residents.

Where possible, families may wish to consider alternative arrangements such as parking a little further away and walking the remainder of the journey to school, car sharing with other families, or encouraging older pupils to cycle or scoot to school where it is safe and appropriate to do so. These options can help to reduce congestion around the school and contribute to a safer environment for everyone.

We have also sought advice from our local Community Police Team regarding this matter and will continue to work with residents and local partners to promote safe and considerate parking practices.

Curriculum Governors Involvement within school

The Curriculum Governors’ Committee met on 16 September 2026 and began the meeting with a tour of the school’s central Special Educational Needs (SEN) provision, led by the school SENDco. Governors recognised the importance of these spaces in supporting pupils’ individual needs and discussed opportunities to further enhance the provision. They suggested that the school explore potential partnerships with local businesses that may be willing to contribute funding towards future developments.

Governors then received an update on the school’s ongoing Stronger Foundations agenda. As part of this, leaders shared an end-of-year assessment grid, which demonstrated the progress made against the school’s stronger foundations priorities. Governors also learned about the targeted support provided for Key Stage 2 pupils who had not met the expected standard in the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check, and the actions in place to close gaps in learning and improve outcomes.

The committee enjoyed meeting with six KS 2 pupils, who spoke confidently about their transition into a new year group. Pupils discussed the strong emphasis placed on relationship building and the explicit teaching of the school’s behaviour curriculum. Governors were able to clearly identify the positive impact of this work through the pupils’ comments and reflections.
Governors carefully reviewed the Annual Summary Report produced by the Independent School Improvement Partner and considered how its findings aligned with the priorities identified within this year’s School Development Plan.

Finally, governors received a comprehensive presentation from Mrs Shayes, the school’s Child in Care Lead. The committee was reassured by the depth of training, expertise and commitment demonstrated in this role, and by the robust systems in place to support children in care & previously looked after children effectively.

Photographs and Videos Online

 

Dear Parents and Carers,

As part of our ongoing commitment to safeguarding and protecting all children, we are making some changes to the way we share photographs and videos of school life.

You will have seen our new poster, “We’ve Changed the Angle, Not the Story”, which explains how we will continue to celebrate the wonderful learning, achievements and experiences that take place every day at school and nursery, while being mindful of evolving safeguarding guidance and best practice.

Please be reassured that we remain committed to sharing the fantastic things that happen across our school. We know how much families enjoy seeing the exciting activities, achievements and special moments that children experience throughout the year.

To help us achieve this, we will be making a gradual transition in the way photographs and videos are shared. Over time, images and videos posted on our Facebook page will be reduced and eventually moved to a more secure platform designed specifically for school-home communication.

We are currently investigating the use of ClassDojo as a secure platform where parents and carers will potentially be able to access photos, videos and updates in a safer, more controlled environment. At this stage, no final decision has been made, and we will keep you fully informed as our plans develop.

During this transition period:

  • We will continue to use Facebook for important messages, reminders, news and celebrations.
  • Photographs and videos may still appear on Facebook while we gradually implement the new arrangements.
  • Future images will increasingly focus on activities such as hands-on learning, children’s work, side-profile photographs (where permission has been given), and images showing the backs of children’s heads rather than direct facial photographs.
  • We will continue to celebrate and showcase the rich experiences our children enjoy every day.

We would also like to take this opportunity to remind all parents and carers to ensure that the school has the most up-to-date information regarding consent for photographs, videos and the use of their child’s image. If your preferences have changed since completing your child’s admission paperwork, or if there has been any change in circumstances, please contact the school office so that our records can be updated. Maintaining accurate consent records helps us to respect the wishes of every family and ensures that we can continue to meet our safeguarding responsibilities effectively.

This approach allows us to balance celebrating school life with our responsibility to keep children safe in an increasingly digital world.

Headlice

Dear Parents/Carers,

We would like to make you aware that we have had a number of reported cases of head lice in school.

If a member of staff notices either live lice or eggs (nits) in a child’s hair, we will inform parents/carers so that treatment can begin promptly and help prevent further spread to other children.

We kindly ask that you check your child’s hair regularly and carry out appropriate treatment if head lice are found. Continued checks are important, as re-infestation can occur. We know that effective treatment, regular combing, and tying long hair back can all help to reduce the spread of head lice.

Please remember that head lice are a common part of school life and can affect anyone. They are not a sign of poor hygiene, and there is no need for children or families to feel embarrassed if they are affected.
