Reception World Book Day Message

We look forward to celebrating World Book Day this Thursday.

Don’t forget to bring in an old book you have finished with (good condition) to take part in our school book swap so you can take a cool book home that is new to you!

Costumes are encouraged as well as cosy pyjamas. As this is a PE day, please do not wear or bring in kit for this day, but please do bring in a change of trainers or wear trainers so you can still take part in your lesson. We also ask for a warm coat to wear for PE and playtimes.

Thank you for your support.

World Book Day – Thursday 2nd March

Dear Parents and Carers,

This year’s World Book Day will take place on Thursday 2nd March with the theme “You are a reader!”

Due to the success of our last Book Swap Day, we will once more run a second-hand book swap shop. Children who bring in a book that they no longer want can swap it on the day (books in good condition only please).

As usual, we are all looking forward to seeing your child dressed up in costume as one of their favourite book characters. Teachers cannot wait to get involved too!

The World Book Day website has lots of ideas on how to do this with as much or as little effort as you would like. There are some excellent ideas to get you started: Dressing Up – World Book Day

However, children are equally welcome to come to school in their pyjamas all ready for a bedtime story if they prefer – just remind them to bring their favourite book too!

Your child will receive a £1 book token to spend on a FREE book, or to save £1 on another full price book of their choice. Full details are available at www.worldbookday.com where you can see the fabulous books that are on offer this year.

World Book Day is a super event to celebrate reading, but reading to and with your child is important every single day to ensure your child can learn to their fullest potential. We would love to see photos of you reading with your child – please stick them into your child’s reading diary if you can!

Happy reading,

 Mrs Thomas

Literacy Coordinator

Message from Buddy the Bear!

Staff have talked to children today about Buddy the Bear and that he hopes they all think about the ‘M’ this holiday.

Please see below letter from Buddy the Bear to children.

Have a great half term!

Hi children,

Sorry I have not been to Newdale in a while, but my best friend Cool Cat has told me he was in with his kittens a little while ago and said he loved seeing everyone.

I know you will have all been following the BeSMART code brilliantly this half term and I can’t wait to come and see you all again after the holiday.

Here is a great shot of Cool Cat!

Remember our BeSMART code needs to be followed at all times, not just in school. It would be brilliant if you could concentrate on the ‘M’ this holiday and make home enjoyable for everyone. See how you get on.

Take care everyone and stay safe.

See you soon. Your friend Buddy Bear x

A message from Mrs Poole our SENDCO

If your child has special educational needs and you would like me to attend their parents’ evening appointment alongside you, I would be more than happy to do so. To arrange this, please let me know via the SENDCo email address (newdalesendco@taw.org.uk) your availability during that week and I shall discuss a time with their class teacher which we can all do. Please note that appointments will not be available on the Friday of this week as I do not work on that day.

Holiday Provision Easter 2023

Dear Parents/Carers,

We are trialling different models of holiday provision to see which works well for our school setting.

In the first week of the Easter holiday, we will be open from Monday 3rd April to Thursday 6th April. Sign in will be between 8:30 and 9:00. The end of the session will be between 3:30 and 4:00.

We have 20 places available which can be booked on a first come, first served basis using the Crossbar website link www.crossbarcoaching.schoolipal.co.uk This link will go live on Monday 27th February after half term.

The cost is £15 per child per day. Children who attend would need to bring a packed lunch, water bottle and suitable clothing to match the offer around outdoor sports and indoor crafts.

If we cannot fill up the 20 places with Newdale children, we will need to offer it out to other children in our local area in order to make the club viable. We would prefer not to do this unless we have to.

We have some places available for children who are entitled to free school meals. Mrs Byrne Corbett is contacting some parents to discuss this offer. If you believe you are eligible and keen for your children to attend, do contact Mrs Byrne Corbett.

Places for free school meals children will not be booked through the Crossbar link above, but through our Parent Pay system. This payment will become live after parents have made an agreement with Mrs Byrne Corbett.

Kind regards,

Miss Cook

Headteacher

Update regarding entry point near Reception

Please note that the gate adjacent to the Reception classrooms will no longer be used as an exit or entry point onto the school site at the start of the day and at home time. If you usually enter or exit through this point, then please use the gate a little further along (via the quiet area, past the carved Bear) instead. This is to ensure that the equipment in the Reception classroom outside area remains set up and accessed by Reception children only. This will take effect as of Thursday morning.

Thank you for your support.
