Yr R – Reading at home

Please could we remind you to read regularly with your child and write in the diary if your child has read at home or if you are reading to your child. We are sure you are reading at home but our reading diaries are not being written in. Thanks so much, Reception Team.

Reception’s Special Visitors

Over the last two days in Reception we have had some very special visitors. Mrs Sturrock brought in her stick insects for us to see.

We learnt some interesting facts about the stick insects and then were able to hold them, if we wanted to too. We were all so brave and all decided we wanted a hold.

We think the stick insects thought we were trees, they were very good at climbing up us and held on very tight too.

It was lots of fun!

An update from the Newdale Governors 28/3/23

As proud governors of Newdale Primary School and Nursery, we attend regular committee meetings in school – where we look at how the school continues to provide such a high standard of education for your child, and where we have the opportunity to see and discuss school life from the perspective of the staff and the pupils.

Today, as part of one of these Governor committees, we looked at a sample of Literacy books and listened to a group of Year 6 children talk about their learning. All of these children commented on how they felt well prepared for their move to secondary school and excited about their next steps (and even more transition activities will be taking place in the summer term!).

We are continually seeking the views of children to ensure that the decision making has them at the centre. We are pleased that the children can speak so enthusiastically about their school, but we are keen to not only get the views of children and staff but also parents. We look forward to analysing the recent parent survey that many of you kindly filled in during parent consultation week.

As Governors, we really do want to support our school in ensuring that we educate children to become ‘doers, believers and achievers’. If you would like contact Governors to celebrate something that has happened or make suggestions on what we could do differently,  please do email in on newdale.primary@taw.org.uk and we will make sure we respond.

On behalf of the governing body,

Mrs Carole Williams, Mrs Beryl Mason and Mrs Karen Rowley

Mrs Sturrock’s parents’ meetings

If you had a parents’ evening appointment booked for today (10th March) Mrs Sturrock will try and call you today. If you do not get a call, she will be in touch to re-arrange your appointment for next week or the week after.

Many thanks

Reception Snow Day!

Morning Reception!

What an exciting day, to look outside and see everywhere covered in snow again. We know you will be so excited to wrap up warm and get out there building snowmen (We would love to see your creations on EvidenceMe).

This week you have been busy in school learning about creating ‘repeating patterns’ and we made our own repeating patterns using the animal footprints  in the playdough. Maybe you could make real life repeating patterns outside in the snow using your own footprints today, or even with your family’s footprints too!

Can you draw any snowy day pictures?

We usually have PE on a Friday afternoon, which we know you all love. So if you are outside today this sounds like the perfect opportunity to keep warm by keeping active. Can you make some snow angels? Could you have a competition to see who can throw a snowball the furthest?

Mrs Thomas will be sending home some Read, Write, Inc videos as usual on a Friday, so if after your adventures you want to get warm back inside, then please pop these on while you have a warm drink and watch together, followed by a cosy storytime.

Thank you

The Reception Team

Reception Snow Day

Wow! What a day with all this snow.

We hope you are able to get home safely, wrap up warm and enjoy playing out in the snow, building lots of snowmen! Maybe you can build a snow ‘Gruffalo’ or even the ‘Gruffalo’s child’ who braves the snow himself to go and find the Big Bad Mouse! Have fun.

Here is a lovely animation of the story to inspire you:

Reception World Book Day

Today we celebrated our annual World Book Day.

We had such a great day. Thank you to everyone for providing wonderful costumes. We enjoyed a class costume parade, took part in a ‘name that book’ quiz, scoring the top score of ten points! We had a book hunt, a very special assembly and enjoyed lots of stories. We also enjoyed our book swap session. A packed day of celebrating books.
