Year 6- work for the week beginning 20/4/20

Hi Year 6

We hope you had an enjoyable Easter break and ate plenty of chocolate eggs!
Your work this week is on Purple Mash. Mrs Thomas and I have set you all a number of tasks: there is a fast 10 for each day and some literacy based activities which we will add to every day, so try to keep on top of this work. In addition to this, please continue to use Read Theory and TTRS.

As a school, we have decided to run subject themed weeks for you to have a go at in the afternoons and this week is Art. Please see Miss Hailey’s post below for a range of activities you can complete. Please upload your pieces on to the school blog because we’d love to see them!

If you are unable to use Purple Mash and would prefer for Mrs T or I to send you some paper based work electronically, please email us and we will send some work over.

Have fun!

Miss C and Mrs T

Spring sunshine

Today we went on a lovely nature walk. Mrs Perkins made some fantastic envelopes so that we could collect our findings. We spotted a mouse taking cover in the roots of the hedgerow, looked at how Holly leaves are not all the same and also discovered lichen on the trees. After all our exploring, we chilled out by making daisy chains.

In the afternoon, we made our own playdough and played outside! Well done Harry and Jack for making school really enjoyable!

Videos from the Arthog Outdoor Instructors

The Arthog Outdoor Instructors are putting a fresh video out each day for you to enjoy and they can be found on the Arthog FaceBook page (which can be accessed through the website  http://www.telford.gov.uk/aoec/ ).

Below are the first three. See if you can recognise any of the instructors from when we visited in October. :)

Hi year 6

The final pieces of work for this week are below. Mrs T will upload a couple of activities on to Purplemash today for those of you who want to do them over the next two weeks. Other than that, please go on Read Theory as often as you can. Have fun and enjoy the Easter holidays! We are very proud of how so many of you have adapted to working from home- well done!

Value of the Month- April

Our value of the month for April is Freedom

What is Freedom?

  • Rights and responsibilities
  • Self-expression
  • Freedom of speech

Suggestions for parents to work with children at home:

  • Together, talk about people in history who were being ruled by someone else and wanted freedom, e.g. Moses and the Israelites, slaves in the US before the Civil War; Hanukkah; Nelson Mandela.
  • Discuss with your child about historical slavery and modern day human trafficking.
  • Discuss with your child about the Syria Refugee Crisis.
  • Different Rules of Law around the world. Discuss with your child democracy in Britain and how this may be different from countries around the world.
  • Freedom of self- expression. Discuss with your child the importance of their identity and being able to express themselves. Explain that people living in Britain are able to express themselves how they choose; as long as it doesn’t break the law (Individual Liberty).
  • Discuss inner freedom– having positive thoughts. What does inner freedom feel like? When do you feel most free? What kinds of thoughts make you feel free? Constrained?
