Attendance Letter from Miss Cook

Dear Parents/Carers

Attendance

As you know, being in school on time and every day is extremely important for all children in order that they receive the best possible start to their learning. We have recently sent out a one-page information sheet with lots of useful facts about attendance and what we do in our school.

We all know that good attendance is vital to a successful education, as this is the foundation for lifelong learning. We very much appreciate that sometimes children must miss school for a medical appointment that cannot be made out of school time. We also appreciate that sickness cannot be helped.

Please ensure that you make all reasonable efforts to send your child into school. Sometimes you might suspect that your child is slightly under the weather, but well enough to come to school. That is fine, as staff will monitor very carefully and if necessary, can administer medication and a call later on in the day. Sometimes a magic dose of Calpol is all that is needed. Clearly, there are some illnesses that mean there is no choice other than keeping them off for the day. The office staff are more than happy to discuss any queries you have.

Did you know that a child having 90% attendance is the same as having one day off every two weeks? If their attendance drops to 80%, that is the same as having a day off every week. Lessons are planned in sequences and if a child misses a part of this sequence, they are at a disadvantage when it comes to committing that learning to long term memory.

Mrs Powell, Mrs Millington and I, monitor the attendance figures every three weeks along with our Education Welfare Officer.  We discuss all attendance below 95% and put actions in place to support children and families where we notice patterns in absence.

Not only do we monitor individual children’s attendance, but we also look at the attendance of each class in our school. We are going to bring back more recognition for good attendance during our achievement assemblies now that we can be together in the hall again. The classes with the highest attendance will be announced in assembly every week.

Attendance Incentives

Cool Cat visits Newdale and greets the children arriving at school. He will visit again this year:

26th – 30th September 2022

23rd – 27th January 2023

24th – 28th April 2023

Children with 100% attendance will receive a treat.

The class with the best attendance each week will also receive a treat.

It is important to remind you the law states that: “The parent of every child of statutory school age is compelled by law to ensure such a child attends school unless there is a reasonable excuse for non-attendance.  Failure to do so may result in legal action being taken against you”.

Thank you in advance for your continued support in helping us do the best we can for your children.

Reception Star of the Week 💫

Our star today is Dola! She has worked hard in every lesson, every single day all week. She always follows our BSMART code. We love to see how enthusiastic you are to learn Dola. What a role model.

Reception Star of the Week 💫

Well done to Ollie for being our star this week. He has worked really hard both at school and at home! He has followed the BSMART code and has been a wonderful role model to everyone. 😊

Reception Star of the Week

Congratulations to Coby who is Mrs Sturrock and Mrs Evans’ ‘Star of the Week’ this week for always giving 100% effort in everything he does, being a fantastic role model to others and always having a big smile on his face. Well done Coby! You have been a super helper today too! Enjoy your weekend with Star Bear.

Reception Stars ✨

We would like to congratulate all of our wonderful new Reception children for completing their first full day week at Newdale.

They have already learnt so much about the routines of big school. They have been working hard in phonics, Number work as well as practising how to share and take turns and painting. We’ve been on our jungle gym and used the bikes. We look forward to sharing photographs with you soon (we are just waiting to ensure we have everyone’s correct photo consent).

Well done everyone. We couldn’t possibly pick just one star of the week this week, so we have awarded everybody with their own special certificate! 🤩
Have a lovely weekend. We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday.

13.9.22 Welcome back!

Dear Parents & Carers,

Welcome back to the Autumn term 2022. As predicted, we have had a super start to the term. Children have settled in very well to their new classes and the routines of the day.

Assemblies

We are running daily short assemblies for all children (except the new Reception children) with the highlight being the Friday Achievement assembly where we talk about the fabulous successes of the week and recognise children for their efforts, including in reading, where teachers will nominate their Star Reader every week to go into a prize draw for a brand new book.

BeSMART Code

We are a school where we understand the power of praise and everyone who works here is always on the lookout to make children feel good by telling them they are following the BeSMART code so well. Please do feel free to use the BeSMART code at home too. It really does work!

Remembering our Queen

All classes will have had time today to recognise the sad loss of our Queen, Elizabeth II. This will be continued next week as we celebrate her lifetime and investigate what happens next, now that we have a new King, Charles III.

Uniform

Thank you for the efforts made in getting your children ready as far as uniform is concerned. We want all children in uniform as we believe that it makes everyone feel part of the Newdale team. Please remember, you do not have to purchase the more expensive uniform with the Newdale logo. We are happy if the colour is correct – navy blue. Please also remember that we require hair to be tied up for PE and earrings (studs) to be taped up (children can do this themselves on the day). Nail varnish is for the weekends only please and shaved patterns in hair and ‘tramlines’ are not permitted in our school.

Contacting school

Communication between school and home is so important. Please make sure you are signed up for email communications. There are several ways for you to pass information on to staff:

  • Staff are on duty each morning and afternoon
  • The Home School Communication books are the best way to send daily messages to your child’s teachers as they are looked at every day

Email contacts are as follows:

Diary Dates

We will be soon sending out dates for your diary. We love to have lots of exciting events going on during the term and where possible we like parents and the wider community to be involved. Keep an eye out for this information.

We look forward to working closely with you this year. Together we can make a huge difference to the well-being, progress, and attainment of your children.

Kind regards,

Miss Cook

Well done Reception 👏🏻

We would like to say a huge well done to all of our children who joined our Reception classes this week.
They have so much to absorb as they learn all about their new school and the new routines.
We have all been so impressed with their independence coming in to school. We even received a special message from their new Lunchtime Supervisors to say how well they had done with their first lunch together in school and what lovely manners they all had.
After a tiring week, have a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing you all again on Monday morning.

The Reception Team 😊

Welcome to Newdale Reception 2022

Welcome to Newdale Primary School.

We are all really looking forward to welcoming everyone into Reception for their first day of school, either for their morning or afternoon session on Tuesday. We know you will be so smart in your uniform and will have such a great time catching up with or making new friends.

Please find attached an information sheet. It shows you the staff working in our Reception team, along with a map for entry and exit details for your new classroom, PE and Forest school days. We hope you find this helpful.
