Peer on Peer abuse

At Newdale Primary School and Nursery, we believe that children have a right to attend school and learn in a safe environment. Children should be free from harm by adults and other children in school.

We recognise that some children will sometimes negatively affect the learning and wellbeing of others and their behaviour will be dealt with under the school’s Behaviour Policy. Our staff recognise that children are capable of abusing their peers. Abuse is abuse and all of the staff at Newdale Primary School and Nursery are clear that it is not tolerated and will never be passed off as ‘banter’, ‘part of growing up’ or ‘just having a laugh’.

The governors, senior leadership team, and all staff at Newdale Primary School and Nursery are committed to the prevention, early identification, and appropriate management of peer on peer abuse both inside and outside School, including online.

Definitions of what constitutes Peer on peer abuse can be found in our school policy, on the policies page of the website. This list shows what is likely to be termed abuse but is not limited to just what is written on this list.

All of our staff are trained in what to do when dealing with peer on peer abuse and the important role they have to play in preventing it and responding where they believe a child may be at risk from it.

We would encourage you read our policy. There are some definitions in there which may cause distress to some, so please talk to us if you would like us to go through it with you in a different way – we are always here to help.

If you have any concerns regarding peer on peer abuse or any aspects of safeguarding, you can talk to one of the Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL) at school. These are Miss Cook, Mrs Bishton, Mrs Powell, Miss Clay and Miss Newport. You can also contact family connect yourself on 01952 385385 or out of hours on 01952 676500. You can also report your concerns using an online form by following this link Child protection Information – Family Connect (familyconnecttelford.co.uk)

Children in need – 19th November

Dear Parents/Carers,

As previously advertised, our Year 4 children took part in the Children in Need ‘Big Fancy Dress Singalong’ this morning. We hope that some of you were able to tune into BBC Radio Shropshire this morning, where they broadcasted from Newdale before the children recorded performing their song and routine. The video will be uploaded onto BBC Radio Shropshire’s Facebook page and we think it will be on Midlands Today at 6.30pm this evening. Please do tune in!

We would still like the whole school to join in on the fun and support the main event which takes place on 19th November 2021.

On this day, children are invited to dress down and come to school in their Pudsey outfits, something spotty or striped or simply their own clothes if they would prefer.

Due to the virus, we will not be taking any cash donations for this event.  Instead you can use the link below to donate.

Individual and sibling photos

Academy Photography will be in school on Wednesday 1st December to take individual and sibling photos.   As school is so big, we will no longer be able offer family photos that include siblings who do not already attend our school or nursery, as we struggle to fit them all in by the end of the day.

Yr 4 Sing a long

We have just been informed that the coverage of the Yr 4 Children in Need sing a long will be shown on BBC Midlands today at 6:30 pm and not 9:30 pm as previously advertised

House point winners

Wrekin House won the house points last half term so will be having a dress down day this Friday, 5th November. Compliment slips will be sent home with each child in Wrekin House.

Update 1.11.21

Dear Parent/Carers,

I hope you enjoyed your half term. We look forward to welcoming your children back to school tomorrow.

The Covid figures in Telford remain high and as such we are keeping our procedures as tight as they were before the half term break.

Can I again ask you to be super aware of your children’s health and ask you to not send them into school should they be displaying any Covid 19 symptoms.

Remember, if your child is in a house where there is a positive case, they can still come into school to access learning. We certainly do encourage a full PCR test and regular lateral flow testing during this time however. If you choose to keep your child off when they are negative and not displaying symtoms, the absence would be classified as unauthorised inline with Government guidance.

Teachers are working so hard on trying to support children in ‘catching up’ following the months and months of limited learning due to lockdowns. If they have a minority of children off school, they cannot offer the full online learning that they did before. They will signpost you to useful resources however and make suggestions on what your child can be working on at home eg spellings and web site ideas.

We always prioritise reading in our school and as such, if your child is at home for any reason, reading is certainly a worthwhile use of time.

If your child tests positive please let the school know on newdale.primary@taw.org.uk and email your child’s teachers as well using the relevant email below.

We need to continue working together to prevent the spread in our school, so that we can avoid tighter restrictions having to be reimplemented.

As part of our drive to keep Covid cases as low as possible, we intend to keep ventilation levels up across the school. With Autumn in full swing, it will mean that school could be slightly colder than usual. Please can you ensure your children are dressed with this in mind and please make sure they have a name labelled coat.

If you have any queries about day to day learning, then please use the class email listed above and your child’s teaching team will respond.

We really do hope that Covid figures will drop over this half term so that everyone can enjoy a wonderful Christmas.

We have plans developing in the hope we can include you more in Christmas celebrations this year, but need to wait a little longer to see what our situation is before we advertise this more fully.

I will email you again as more information, advice and support arises.

Kind regards

Children in need event 5th November 2021

Year 4 will be performing their ‘Big Fancy Dress Singalong’ in aid of Children in Need to help raise money for child mental health projects on Friday 5th November.

There will be coverage on BBC Radio Shropshire sometime between 9:00 -9:30 am promoting the event,  to say that the children are ready to sing.  Then on BBC Midlands today at 9:30 pm,  we are hoping our video will be broadcast.  It may also be used on the Children in need event  on the TV event on 19th November.

Covid update 21.10.21

Dear Parents/Carers,

Unfortunately, the positive Covid 19 cases in Telford and Wrekin are standing at the third highest in the West Midlands and are very high in comparison to other areas in England.

We have pockets of positive cases in school but are implementing everything we can in order to limit the spread. We will let you know if we need to reinstate any further measures before we return after half term.

We really do hope that the half term break and the vaccination program in secondary schools will help to slow things down for us all.

There has been a change to the advice we are given as listed here –

‘Household or close contacts of a positive case are asked to take LFD tests daily for a period of 7 days from the start of what would have been their self-isolation period.  This is in addition to the PCR they will have been recommended to take.

LFD test kits can be ordered online for delivery or collected via a local pharmacy.’

Our teams in school are working so hard in trying to identify the onset of symptoms in school and making sure children are being sent home straight away in order to protect other children and staff. It is so important that you support us in trying to identify potential Covid 19 cases early. Please do not send your children into school if you feel they could be displaying symptoms. Full PCR tests are the only way to be sure and we ask that if we recommend you to get one, that you do so please. We have had cases where parents tell us it is ‘just a cold’ to then discover it is actually Covid 19 and of course at this point the damage has been done and the virus spread.

If you need help in getting PCR tests organised or help in ordering LFD tests, please do ring the office 01952 387720. You can book tests here www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test

We need to know if anyone tests positive at any time but also for the first 4 days during half term. If you could inform the office on Newdale.primary@taw.org.uk but also let your child’s teacher know through the year group email that would really help us to support the track and trace process.

RE Survey reminder

Just a quick reminder about completing our RE Census. We are hoping to hear from as many of our Newdale families as possible, by Friday 22nd October.

This survey will help us to understand more about our families; we would really like an updated picture of the different religions, beliefs and values held by the children, and families, within our Newdale community. This will support us in ensuring that our Religious Education offer is as inclusive as possible for our community.

We would be really grateful if you could spend 5 minutes completing the survey below.

Thank you in advance, for you support 😊
