King’s Coronation Friday 5th May

On Friday 5th May 2023 we will be celebrating the King’s Coronation. All children are invited to attend school wearing red, white and blue. The kitchen will be serving traditional fish and chips along with cake and special cake toppers.

During next week, each class will be producing a work of art celebrating King Charles III.

We hope the children will remember this very important occasion.

NumBots Year 1

NumBots | Welcome to the NumBlog!

We launched NumBots just before the Easter holidays and are continually monitoring its use. It’s great to hear so many children are enjoying going up through the levels and already improving their speed and recall. We’ve noticed not everybody has started using the app yet so wanted to send out a remind in case you have forgotten.

We expect children to be playing on NumBots for at least 12mins a week as part of their homework. If your child does not have access to an online device, please let us know.

Here’s a handy introduction to the app:
A Parents/Carers introduction to NumBots – YouTube

Big Difference

NumBots is an online game and playing little and often will significantly improve your child’s recall and understanding of number bonds and addition and subtraction facts. These are critical foundations in maths so we are excited by the impact NumBots will have.

Logging In

The children have been shown how to login and have brought home a username label in their [book bag/reading planner/insert here]. They might need some help navigating to the website and entering the details but once they’re in, they just need some quiet space to get on with the games.

Please ask your child’s teacher if they are struggling to login. Maths Circle (the creators of NumBots) cannot provide username and password information to parents, even during school holidays or out of hours.

Important: please don’t allow siblings, friends or family to answer for them but do support your child if they’re stuck.

Little and often

In order to get the best out of NumBots children should regularly play for short bursts so we would ask you to give them 3 minutes, four five times a week.

Game Types

  1. Story Mode – the emphasis is on learning the ideas and concepts behind addition and subtraction so it features more diagrams, shapes and question styles.
  2. Challenge Mode – the emphasis is more on speed of recall of key facts, like number bonds to 10, doubling small numbers or adding & taking away in your head.

Yr R – Reading at home

Please could we remind you to read regularly with your child and write in the diary if your child has read at home or if you are reading to your child. We are sure you are reading at home but our reading diaries are not being written in. Thanks so much, Reception Team.

Year 5 Severn Valley Country Park

Severn Valley Country Park Trip

On Tuesday 2nd May, Year 5 will be going on a trip to Severn Valley Country Park. The trip would take place within the school day, returning before home time. We currently have space for a parent helper to come with us. If this is something you would be interested in, please let us know in the reading diary.

Many thanks,

Mr Jackson

Year 6 Updates

Dear Parents/Carers,

Thank you for your continued support as we approach SATs and we are really proud of the hard work and resilience the children are demonstrating both inside and outside of school.

A polite reminder that SATs week will begin Tuesday 9th May – a letter with a permission slip has been sent home regarding a free breakfast club during this week. We strongly encourage the children to attend this so they have time to socialise and relax with their friends before going to their classrooms. At this stage of the year, we really encourage the children to get as much rest as possible so they have plenty of energy for the busy weeks ahead.

On ParentPay there are two upcoming events for year 6 – a Charles Darwin workshop and our trip to Telford Town Park. This trip will include bowling, adventure golf and pizza for the children. We ask if you could please give permission as soon as possible for numbers and bookings to be confirmed.

Many thanks and please get in touch if you have any further questions.

Mr McFarland and Miss Jones.

Holiday provision

We have always been committed to supporting working parents and also supporting our pupil premium families.

We run a blended holiday provision approach where we use Crossbar as well as our own school staff during holiday clubs: we feel this works very well and allows us to have increased numbers. It also means we have familiar adults on site at all times and means we can offer a wide variety of activities.

Unfortunately, we will not be able to run the provision this coming half term, but we are planning very much to offer provision over the summer and moving forward into the next academic year.

For those of you who still require holiday provision, there are other options for half term in other schools that you can search up on the Crossbar website.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to fine tune our provision so that is runs well for children, staff and parents.

 Kind regards

Miss Cook

SMART cup treat!

Year 1 – Miss Harrison’s class won SMART cup before the Easter holidays.

It’s been a long awaited treat so I thought it should be a good one!
Children can bring in a toy from home to play with in class on Monday 24th April?
It should not be electronic (i.e. no tablets, switches, or nerf guns) and children should be willing to play it with others.

We look forward to an afternoon of fun! Download Smiling Face Emoji Icon | Emoji Island

We also had most improved attendance (get us!) so will be having an additional playtime this week. Don’t forget Cool Cat is in all week. Get in nice and early to wave at them and maybe even have a cuddle! File:Paw-print.svg - Wikipedia

Kind regards,
Miss Harrison

Reception’s Special Visitors

Over the last two days in Reception we have had some very special visitors. Mrs Sturrock brought in her stick insects for us to see.

We learnt some interesting facts about the stick insects and then were able to hold them, if we wanted to too. We were all so brave and all decided we wanted a hold.

We think the stick insects thought we were trees, they were very good at climbing up us and held on very tight too.

It was lots of fun!
