Finance and Personnel Governors Committee update

9.5.23

The Finance and Personnel committee met last week. Like all committees this one meets every half term.

This committee meets to ensure that the school expenditure is carefully considered to ensure the best interests of the child.

Governors were delighted to spend time talking to a parent of a child in year 5, who in her responses reassured governors that the best interests of the children are at the heart of all financial decision making.

Governors were updated on the potential staffing structure for next year and felt confident that the continued high standards of education will be sustained.

Governors are always happy to hear from parents. We love to pass on positive news and as ever are always keen to sort out any issues that parents have. All you need do is email into the school and a Governor will get back to you!

Kind regards,

Finance & Personnel Governors.

Coronation Celebrations in Reception 🇬🇧

This week we have embraced the opportunity to learn about our King and the upcoming coronation, a moment in History.
We have read a variety of books about the King and the coronation.
We took part in our own democracy, thinking about the qualities a King or Queen might need and then holding a ballot to vote for our own class King and Queen, which were revealed this afternoon as part of the celebrations.
We got creative and each completed a portrait of the King, which will be turned into a masterpiece for a whole school monarchy timeline. We also made our very own golden crowns, complete with jewels for the party and to take home to wear. The week was completed with a class coronation party. We played games and had a jewel hunt. We also listened to the National Anthem.
We would love to see your own experiences of celebrating the coronation if you choose to do so over the weekend. We hope everyone has a lovely bank holiday weekend.

Year 1 Coronation Art

Year 1 had lots of fun creating art to commemorate King Charles III’s coronation!

We started the day off by making crowns – practising our cutting and sticking techniques from the collage unit we completed in September.

In the afternoon, we worked hard using observation and scale techniques to draw portraits of King Charles.

We also worked on a collaborative piece to celebrate our previous monarch Queen Elizabeth II. This piece will be on display in school along with other British monarchs; we hope you will be able to spot it soon!

School readiness

You are invited to attend a short meeting on Thursday 22nd June at 8.30.  This will be led by Lynsey Ray from the NHS who is a Healthy Child Programme Practioner.  She has lots of useful information about immunisation, infection control, toileting, sleep, nutrition and dental health.  Lynsey will also be able to signpost you to further websites.  Please feel free to come along, we expect to be finished by 9am.

School Parliament Crisp Packet Project

As part of our constitution school parliament members discuss ideas for charities to support and help raise funds in school and the local community. This term school parliament members have voted to support the Crisp Packet Project. This is a world wide project that is dedicated to giving life to one use plastics and helping people living on the street, who have nothing. The charity makes survival items for the homeless, such as survival sheets/blankets, wash bags, draw string bags, sleeping bags, cushions, dog beds and more, out of used, washed crisp packets.

We are asking our school community to help support this charity by bringing in your used, washed crisp packets. There will be a donation box for the crisp packets in main school office reception area, along with a box in Pastoral office.

All you have to do is;

  1. First eat your crisps and enjoy!
  2. Take your crisp packet and a pair of scissors (ask an adult to help you) and cut down one edge.
  3. Gently pull the bottom edge open
  4. Now your crisp packet is open and flat
  5. Wash your crisp packet with warm soapy water
  6. Leave to dry – please keep flat
  7. Bring in to the collection box in school.

Only packets with silver lining will be used and any sized packs and multipacks can be used too.

For more information and easy to follow instructions and videos you can go to the website www.crisppacketproject.com

School parliament thank you for your support and we look forward to receiving your crisp packets!

Class photos tomorrow!

Hello,

Just a reminder that we have our class photos tomorrow (Thursday). Please send your child in to school in their school uniform.

They can bring their PE kits in a bag and get changed ready for their PE lesson.

Many thanks,

Year 1 team

Year 2 – Miss Hill -BeSMART Cup

Congratulations to my wonderful class for winning the BeSMART Cup on Friday. The children have worked extremely hard over the past few weeks and have really applied themselves to their learning. As a treat, they have decided they would like to decorate biscuits on Friday linked to celebrating the King’s coronation. Biscuits will be provided by school.

Thank you for your continued support.

Miss Hill and Miss Hawley

Governor update

Governors are responsible for overseeing the management side of a school: strategy and vision policy, budgeting, staffing and safeguarding. We enable the school to run as effectively as possible, working alongside senior leaders and supporting teachers to provide excellent education to all our children.

We act as a critical friend to the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team.

Yesterday, the Curriculum Committee met. Like all of our committees, this one meets every half term. We had a super pupil voice session where the children enthusiastically told us all about their learning in Science. We were also treated to some children showing off their musical Ukulele skills. We continue to be impressed with the Modern Foreign Languages (French) offer in our school after a very comprehensive update from Miss Hill.

We would be happy to welcome any parent to part of a meeting to share their views on the curriculum offer in our school. If you would be keen to attend part of our meeting, please let us know through the Newdale email account.

Kind regards,

Curriculum Committee Governors
