Reception’s Winter Wonderland

We have done lots of exciting Christmas activities over the last two weeks but our favourite of them all was our parent/family ‘Winter Wonderland’.

We had lots of fun singing Christmas Carols,  making Christmas decorations, drinking hot chocolate, eating biscuits and taking part in a super fun Christmas quiz with our family.

Thank you to everyone that was able to attend. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

Here are some of the photos we took from the event.

Merry Christmas

End of term message from Miss Cook

Dear Parents/Carers,

Wow, what a super busy half term that was! We do hope you managed to join us for some of our wonderful festive events this year. The children are suitably excited now and ready to enjoy their holidays and await the arrival of you know who; although they have of course been learning about the real reason Christians around the world celebrate Christmas too.

Teachers have already got many plans in place to ensure that next half term continues to offer exciting learning experiences including trips, visits out and special visitors into our school.

The teams at Newdale look forward to welcoming the children back into school on Wednesday 4th January 2023. Please remember that doors open at 8.35 am with the register being taken at 8.40 am. In the meantime, we all wish you and your families a very happy, peaceful Christmas.

The ‘Newdale Express’!

Reception had lots of fun today on the ‘Newdale Express’. We started off the morning going on a golden ticket hunt searching for our train ticket.

When we arrived back into the classroom, the class was set up like a train and the Polar Express music was on. We sat ’on the train’  and Mrs Elf (Mrs Sturrock) came up and stamped our tickets.  Once we were ‘All Aboard the Newdale Express’  we danced to the polar express music up and down the ‘train carriage’.  We then sat down and enjoyed popcorn and hot chocolate. Once the train had arrived our classroom turned into ‘Newdale Cinema’ and we watched some of the Polar Express film. It was great fun!

Year 4 PE Days – Spring 1

Hello all,

We hope you are all beginning to feel very Christmassy in this wintery weather. Just a quick update regarding our PE days in the Spring term. When we return to school in January, Year 4 PE days will be:

Tuesday – Indoor (Gymnastics)

Wednesday – Outdoor (Athletics).

Please ensure pupils come to school on PE days, dressed in the appropriate, school PE kit. (Please note, we return to school on a Wednesday so outdoor PE kit should be worn on the first day back).

Many thanks,

Year 4 Team :)

The Gateway Project

Our Gateway Food Bank Project has been in operation since the start of this half term and we have received many generous donations into our ‘Give’ box, located just inside the main entrance door on the left. Thank you so much for any donations. Anyone can donate into this box at any time.

We would like to remind you that you are welcome to use our ‘Take’ box, which is available everyday Monday-Friday, particularly leading up to the Christmas break. This box is unsupervised and is located in the parent shelter by the main entrance.

We are keen that this project supports any of our school families who may be struggling during this difficult time, and we understand that this may be even more so leading up to Christmas.

The boxes will continue to be available throughout the rest of this week and will start again when we return in January.

Regards,

Miss Cook

House point winners

As a result of earning the most house points this half term, Wenlock will have a dress down day on the last day of term, Friday 16th December.

Water Safety

Dear Parents/Carers,

Given the tragic events at the weekend and the forecasted continued colder weather as we head into the Christmas holidays, we send out the attached flier.   We will be highlighting to the children the importance of staying safe around water.

It can be so tempting for children to skate on frozen lakes/canals. They may well be unaware that the ice will not be as thick as it looks and that the best way to stay SAFE around water is to stay away from the edge.  We will highlight to them that If they do spot anyone in difficulty in the water, then they should not enter the water themselves, call 999 and ask for the Fire Service.

Regards,

Miss Cook

Treeific Tuesdays

In Mighty oaks we are hoping to restart our Treeific Tuesday sessions on Tuesday 10th January.

Yellow, red and green groups will be heading to the woods in the morning and blue, purple and orange group in the afternoons.  If you are unsure which group your child is in please just ask at the gate.  Don’t forget that your child will need wellies in the woods and some shoes to wear inside.

Thanks again

Lisa Curnow

Fun in the Snow ⛄️ ❄️

Today we had an amazing time in the snow!
We went out in the real snow ❄️ but also were the first to try out school’s brand new magic snowballs that do not melt. 😊
We had snowball fights – particularly enjoying throwing them at the teachers!

Year 5/6 Winter Wonderland Reminder

Dear Parents/Carers,

Please see below the final reminder about the Winter Wonderland event tomorrow.

The weather is due to be dry, but very cold, so please ensure that you and your child wrap up warm and wear sensible footwear as the ground may be slippery.

Please meet in the main car park, outside Base Camp and a member of staff will let you know when you are able to come and join in.

Please bring a mug for your hot chocolate and we will provide the biscuits.

The children in Miss Jones’ class will be able to leave at 3pm if accompanied by a parent/carer. For any child in Mr McFarland’s class without a sibling in school, they will be able to leave at 2pm, but we need to be informed prior about this and they can only leave is accompanied by an adult. If your child has a sibling in another year group, they will need to remain in school until the end of the day, 3.10pm.

We are really looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow and we hope you all have a great time!

The Year 5/6 team.
