Volunteer Reading Support

Volunteer Reading Support

Dear parents and carers,

Do you or someone else in your family have some time to spare to support our pupils? We are looking for volunteers to listen to children read.

We do not ask for any educational qualifications, just that you are willing to see the huge difference that a few hours of your time can make to a child’s reading ability, confidence, and enjoyment.

We do request that you commit to a regular time during term times (maybe one afternoon each week), and we will require you to agree to our Code of Conduct and have a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check carried out.

If you are keen to help out, please contact the school office in the first instance on 01952 387720 to book a place on our information session. This will take place on Wednesday 11th January at 1pm with our reading lead, Mrs J Thomas.

We thank you for all your support.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year!

We cannot wait to welcome you all back tomorrow for another exciting term!

Just a few reminders!

PE Days – MONDAY (Crossbar) and THURSDAY (Class teacher)

Children come to school in their PE kits – White t-shirts, black/navy bottoms and trainers. Please ensure children’s PE is labelled clearly with their names.

FOREST SCHOOL – Thursdays. Children will be in their PE kits but will need to bring in appropriate change of footwear and warm outer clothes as we intend to go outside regardless of the weather.

Homework reminder- children complete their times tables test each Wednesday and new homework will be sent out each Friday. Please encourage your child to complete the practise questions to improve their fluency and rapid recall.

We are impressed with the children’s reading progress and are grateful for your continued support with reading at least 3 times or more a week. Keep up the fantastic reading!

See you bright and early in the morning, don’t forget school starts at 8.35am!

Ms Trevor and Miss Hill :) :)

Beat The Clock

3rd January 2023

Dear Parents/Carers,

Every second in school really does count. Help us to teach your child the importance of being on time…

BEAT THE CLOCK! Key times for you to remember:

8:35 – all classroom doors are opened so children can come in, hang up coats etc.

8:40 – registration is taken. Pupils not in class at this time will receive a late mark.

8:45 – Children’s learning begins as soon as the register has been taken.

As you know, being in school on time and every day is extremely important for all children in order that they receive the best possible start to their learning.

Please also refer to our one-page information sheet below which has lots of useful facts about attendance and what we do in our school. You can also visit our website for more information.

Attendance treats: the class with the highest attendance are already recognised at the end of each week with a treat – this may be a slippers and hot chocolate afternoon, extra play, craft activities etc. Look out for the winners in the Achievement Assembly updates every Friday. From January, they will also be visited by Cool Cat’s friend, Cool Kitty, who will spend the week in their class.

We do understand that on occasions children will need to miss school with medical appointments or have genuine reasons for absence, therefore we do also recognise those children with ‘excellent attendance’ that is between 97-100%

Dates To Remember

We are excited to announce that Cool Cat is due to visit Newdale once more this half term and will be greeting the children arriving at school on time. He will be outside the school until 8:35 every day from Monday 23rd – Friday 27th January (to allow children time to get into class ready for the register at 8:40). For this special week ALL classes with attendance over 97% will receive a treat, not just the highest one!

PE Days

Year 3 PE in Spring Term will be:

Monday: Indoor
Wednesday: Outdoor

There will be a PE lesson on Weds 4th January.

Reception Star of the Week

Congratulations to Tobias, who is Mrs Sturrock and Miss Fisher’s ‘Star of the Week’ this week. Tobias has been chosen for always following our school’s BSMART code and being an excellent role model to others. We love having Tobias in our class because he is such a good friend and help to everyone. We could quite easily choose him for this award every week! Well done Tobias!

Merry Christmas Reception 🌲 ⛄️

We have had a lovely couple of days in Reception in the lead up to the holidays.
We learnt to play a Christmas board game. Our teachers were so impressed with how we could take turns.
We had a treat on Friday afternoon. We all had our very own golden ticket, danced and then watched “The Polar Express” film drinking hot chocolate and eating popcorn!

We would like to take this opportunity to say a huge well done to everyone in Reception for completing their first full term in school. Everyone has worked incredibly hard and we can see such great progress.
Thank you to all families for your ongoing support at home too.
Enjoy a well earned rest over the holidays and we look forward to seeing you all safe and sound in the New Year.
Merry Christmas 🎄
The Reception Team.
