Thursday’s phonics challenge

Morning!  Today I would like you to extend yesterday’s activity (pick a picture on phonics play) by creating your own words to go with real objects.  Please could you start by collecting some objects with very simple names such as hat, cup, pen, bag (you will only need about 4 or 5).  They need to be words in which each sound can easily be heard.  When you have done this ask your child to write each word on a slip of paper, help them to sound out each letter carefully using the pat and stroke the arm technique.  Once they have created a label for each object can you mix them up and see how quickly they can match them to the objects.

Thank you to everyone who has been sending in videos and photo’s of the challenges they bring a smile to my face!

Thursday 30th April – Year 1 Maths

Hi everyone,

You have been working really hard this week to divide by grouping. Today, you are going to practise a different method of dividing – sharing. I’m sure this method will be more familiar to you as we have had a little go at this in school before! There is a White Rose video to help you with today’s lesson – please find the link on the information sheet below.

Year 1 Home Learning Thursday 30th April 2020

Last day for practising those Jumping Orange Words! Today once you have watched your phonics video from Miss Hammond, you could play Quickwrite! All you need is a clock or watch. Ask mum or dad to give you one of your spelling words and your challenge is to see how many times you can write it down in 20 seconds. We have played this in class before – what is the record for the most words you can write in those 20 seconds?

A massive well done for the fantastic story writing at home. We are so proud of the effort you have put in this week.

We are approaching the end of our Enormous Turnip week, and therefore after your hard work writing this week tomorrow’s activity is a reading activity. Attached are some reading comprehension questions to prove how well you know and understand the story. There are three different level sheets so you can choose how easy or hard you think the questions should be for your child (there are also answer sheets for parents as a guide). These can be copied onto paper if you do not have a printer.

The Enormous Turnip Reading Comprehension

Don’t forget the 2do’s on PurpleMash too.

Well done everyone.

Wednesday’s phonics post

Good morning everyone!

Your phonic challenge today is again to help children blend the letters in a simple word in order to read them.  It’s another great phonics play game, please select the game “pick a picture” at phase 2.  This gives the children a word on the screen and three possible objects.  Please can you help your child blend their sounds by tapping on their arm for each sound and then stroking it to blend them together.  I call this patting and stroking the dog!   It may seem strange but it seems to work.  If there are any unfamiliar letters please go back to Mrs Giodano’s post which shows the children the letter cards.

Have fun!

Well done for working hard on your stories so far. We are looking forward to seeing the completed versions.

Today you may choose to finish these as it was quite a lot to write all in one day! Please continue and complete your stories today either on paper or on your 2create a story.

If however, you did complete the story then head on to PurpleMash for your Literacy tasks for today. There is a spelling game, a friendship task and also a favourite fruit task. Keep up the hard work everyone.

Year 1 Maths – Wednesday 29th April

Hello everyone,

In Wednesday’s maths lesson we will continue to think about dividing by splitting objects into groups. Today, I have given you three suggested activities – you do not have to complete them all. They are there so that you can choose one or two activities that are most relevant to you – depending on how your child got on with yesterday’s learning.

Year 2 Home Learning Wednesday 29th April 2020

Hello Year 2!

The home learning we have set you for today is as follows:

Spellings – Today use this week’s spellings (a before l and ll) to play the dice game.  If you don’t have a dice at home then you could pick the numbers from a hat instead.

Literacy – It is time to read Chapter 3 of Sky Scraping Sunflowers.  Then complete the activities linked to this chapter which are set in your 2do section on Purple Mash.

Maths – Today’s Maths is about using the four operations (add, subtract, divide and multiply) with measures.  You can find the video you need here:

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-2/

And the worksheet to be completed here:

Four operations with length

Also don’t forget to continue practising your times tables on Times Tables Rock Stars.  Miss Rouse and Miss Horler are waiting to see which class will get the most points this week.  Your class need you!

Afternoon activities – This week’s theme is Music, please see ideas below 🎸🥁 🎹

When you complete a music activity please upload them to the Year 2 homework blog for us to see.

Assembly 🎤 – We are sure that you are all missing Mr Wilcox’s music assembly.  He has made some music videos for you to join in with at home.  The next vocal activity is called ‘It is fun to sing! Part 3.  Knee knee, clap clap’.  Enjoy! 🎵

Tuesday’s phonics challenge

Today’s challenge will help support your child’s reading by helping them to blend letters together.  Please find phonics play on the web and then input the username march20 and the password home.  Then select the game “dragons den” at phase 2 level.  In this challenge the children find out that the dragons eggs are mixed up and are unable to breathe fire.  In order to help them they must read the eggs and give them to the correct dragon.  They need to give the green dragon the real words and the red dragon made up words.  Good luck in helping the dragons!
