Friday’s phonics challenge

Today’s challenge is slightly different.  I would like you to select “flash card speed trial” on phonics play.  You can at this point chose all of phase 2 or select a mixture of sounds that your child does and does not know.  When you start the game your child shouts out the sound (they like that part!) and if they are correct you press the tick if not press the cross.  At the end your child receives a score showing their time to get through all of the letters and how many they got correct.  If you record this at this point you can then revisit this game and explain to your child their challenge e.g. if they got 15 correct last time can they get 16 this time?

It is our last day on ‘The Enormous Turnip’. We hope you have enjoyed this book. Can you tell us your views and opinions by completing a book review?

Message from Miss Cook

Dear Parents/Carers,

We are as keen as you are to get back to normal and I promise to let you know more information as I receive it.

We understand how frustrating it is to have a lack of information about schools from the government and only wish we could be emailing with more solid news.

Our PM is addressing the nation today, which we hope will give us more of an insight, but I suspect it will still be vague and not give us the definite answers we are looking for.

I know the Local Authority are asking individual Headteachers for their thoughts by way of returning to school, but I also know that as yet, there is no set date or clear plan around which year groups will return and how that will be implemented.

In the meantime, I would like to thank you for all of the support you are giving children at home with their online learning, as we know that this will make such a difference to them as we return and catch up.

Kind regards,

Miss Cook

Year 1 Guided Reading

Hello everyone,

Today’s Guided Reading is a little different as it is all about Peter Rabbit! You can read the first part of the story with a grown-up at home and have a go at answering the questions. Then, there is a link so that you can listen to the whole story being read. After this, there are some lovely, art activities that you may like to have a go at over the next few days – we can’t wait to see what you get up to! 🙂🐰 📚

Evidence me

Some of the nursery team are experiencing technical issues currently with the evidence me app.  One possible solution is to ensure that everyone using it at home has agreed to the latest update.  Hopefully, in that way we’ll be able to view and respond to your observations.

Numicon Challenge

Last week I posted support in using Numicon at home and attached paper templates. I hope you enjoyed having a play with them.

So today, I have a little challenge for you. You can of course do this at your leisure.

Can you use bricks (stackable toys work well but you could use any toys) to represent the value of the Numicon?

My suggestion and example today is to use one piece of Numicon. How many ways can you use your bricks to show the same number? Can you touch count the Numicon for support?

I have chosen number 4.
