Enjoy, The Nursery Team

Year 1 Maths – Tuesday 28th April

Following on from yesterday’s Maths lesson, today’s activity is based around another White Rose video. Today’s lesson introduces the topic of ‘Division’. In Year 1, one of the methods we use to teach is division is called ‘grouping’. This simply means putting objects into ‘groups of’ a particular number, to see how many equal groups you can make. The video will introduce this idea and talk the children through a number of examples, which they may like to have a go at practically too, alongside watching the video! 🙂

You will find details of which video to watch in the picture below. The link to the website is:

Year 1 Home Learning Tuesday 28th April 2020

For phonics today, please continue to practise your jumping orange year 1 words. Can you put these words into a sentence? Also watch Miss Hammond’s fantastic video’s, along with the DFE videos.

We hope you enjoyed planning your own story yesterday. There are some great innovations being sent in. We are looking forward to reading ‘The Ginormous Onion’ and ‘The Enormous Beetroot’ to name but a few of the super ideas.

Today’s Literacy is to begin to use your story plan to write your story. Children write at different paces, so it might be a good idea to break their story plan up for them into a beginning, middle and end section. Then write each section one a time. Breaking it up into chunks will make it more achievable. You can then choose whether you want to write the whole story today or you may find it better to spread it out over a couple of days. Much work has been on the computer, so this is a great opportunity to keep up the handwriting practise.

However, if you did prefer to record electronically a new 2do has been set called 2create a story. You can make a real book with words and pictures.

Please share you super stories via the homework blog, or you could email us at newdale.year1@taw.org.uk  We cannot wait to read them.

Online Phonics Lessons for Reception and Year 1 Children

The DFE have created daily Letters and Sounds lessons on YouTube! These begin tomorrow. There are different times for Reception (10am) and Year 1 (10:30am).

Extra lessons on learning to blend for both Reception and Year 1 are also available (11am).

Please see the attached letter for more information. These would be hugely beneficial in ensuring your child is accessing phonics whilst schools remain closed.

Year 2, you may find the Year 1 phonics session useful as some revision too!

Letter to parents and carers about online phonics lessons

Year 1 Home Learning Monday 27th April 2020

Hello Year 1. We hope you had a lovely weekend in the sunshine.

This week in Literacy we will be putting your knowledge of ‘The Enormous Turnip’ to the test! Over the next couple of days we would like to see if you can write your own version of the story.

You could do this in one of two ways. First of all you may choose to retell the story in your own words. Can you use traditional story language? Can you include each part of the story?

However, if you want more of a challenge, you may choose to put your own twist on the story. You may decide to change the story so that you have a different giant vegetable – such as ‘The Enormous Carrot’ or ‘The Enormous Marrow’.  You could also switch the characters. You may even decide to star in the story yourself!

Monday’s task is to plan your story. We usually do this with a visual story board. Attached is an example you could use or draw your own. You can simplify this to have less boxes if you would rather. Draw what will happen in your story in order. You could label the pictures. You will use this plan to help support you in your story writing the next day. We look forward to seeing all the different things you come up with.

For phonics, please practise this weeks spellings. You could try something different and create a spelling scribble like this:

Year 3 Literacy W/C 27th April

Summer Term Week 2 Literacy

This week you will be looking at Non-Chronological reports, the past and present tense, the perfect tense and the progressive tense in poems. Wow I hear you say! Do not panic, attached are PowerPoints to help you understand before you complete the activities (attached for each day).

Day 1 – Year 3 Week 4 Day 1

1 – Read the Lego report twice and decide who it is written for.

2- Then highlight the features of the report (sections (paragraphs), headings, sub-headings, main title, introduction, present tense, technical vocabulary)

3- Read the other reports and find technical vocabulary and write the meaning of 3. (Use an online dictionary if you don’t have a dictionary)

Day 2- Year 3 Week 4 Day 2

  • Read another report and answer the questions about it
  • Choose one of the games listed, play it then make notes about it on the table
  • Write a report on the chosen game- use your notes to help you and include those key features – Main title (eg. Dangermouse Dash), sub-headings and paragraphs about that sub-heading (eg. Who is the game for? What is the aim of the game? What are the rules? What skills are needed to play?)

Day 3- Year 3 Week 4 Day 3

  • Read the portrait poem – answer the question
  • Use powerpoint Past and Present Tense with audio to remind you of the present and past tense then complete the practice
  • Use the portrait poem template to write about one of your friends (in the present tense) then draw a portrait of them in the middle. Once complete and if you would like to maybe try the extras.

Day 4 – Year 3 Week 4 Day 4

  • Read the shape poem out loud
  • Use the powerpoint Progressive Tense with audio to learn about the progressive tense then complete the practice
  • Think of some Action Poem ideas- TIME TO BE CREATIVE (or use one of the sheet) – write these on your sheet (or on paper). Can you try to write up your poem in the shape which matches the action? Look at the example how to set it out to help. Most importantly have fun with it!

Day 5 – Year 3 Week 4 Day 5

  • Read the poem I have had an awful day, discuss what things cheer you up if you are having a bad day?
  • Use the powerpoint Perfect form with audio to learn about the perfect tense- complete the matching activity.
  • Time to write your own sad to happy poem. Be as creative as you like and make sure you include the present form. Use the examples to help you.

Have fun with the literacy this week we cannot wait to read your poems, we know that they will be amazing with some exquisite vocabulary.  Any problems just send an email – newdale.year3team@taw.org.uk

Keep shining superstars. We are proud of you.
