Hello Year 2!

We hope you have had a wonderful weekend and you are ready for some more home learning this week!

Spellings – the spelling rule for this week is ‘a before l and ll’ . We have set you the Purple Mash quiz to complete and your spellings can be found here.

Please note that there are some different words in the quiz, however they all follow this week’s spelling rule.

Literacy – This week in Literacy we will be reading a book called Sky-scraping Sunflowers.  Each day you will read a chapter and complete a comprehension quiz, missing word activity and a joining words activity.  This will help you to practise your reading and literacy skills.  Today, please read Chapter 1 and complete the activities – you will find all of these in your Purple Mash 2dos.

Maths – this week we will be continuing to learn about measure using the White Rose materials.  Today is about comparing lengths. The video you need can be found here

Y4 Parent Email

Purple Mash emails are a great way for children/parents to communicate with us; however, there have been a few requests from parents about emailing teachers directly, without their child having access to the content. To support parents, we have set up a Y4 email address for parents to email if they have any questions about their child/child’s learning.

Many thanks,

Miss Macfarlane & Mr Jackson

Friday’s phonic challenge

On a Friday we usually go over the phonics we have learnt that week and play a few games.  One of the games that has always proved popular is bingo.  This particular version is available on twinkle (this is a free website at the moment) and the game you are looking for is called “cvc bingo matching card game”.  Again, use the phase 2 level as this is most appropriate.  However, this only works with a printer.  You could instead though make your own version with your child, they could draw the pictures and write the letters.  You would need to make two boards (if you’re not sure how they should look just google the game even if you’re not going to print it).  The words include net, man, dog, tap and so on.

Have fun!

Hello everyone,

A big WELL DONE on another fantastic week of home learning. The Year 1 team have been really impressed again with all of your hard work and we are so proud of you all. In Maths this week, you have been working really hard to learn how to tell o’clock and half past times. Today, I would like you to use all of your new knowledge to create your very own time diary. All of the instructions you need are in this picture – I have even shared my own time diary with you so you know what it may look like. 🕑🕦

Happy Friday! A whole week almost completed in Year 1 Summer Term!  You have completed some amazing work this week, so thank you for sharing. We really do love to see your work.

Today is spelling test day. Please have your little test at home with your parents and then send your scores to Mrs Goodwin and Mrs Lee. They have been really impressed with your hard work!

Next week, all groups have the same spellings as we are testing the next set of Jumping Orange words. These are attached. Practise lots as these are the words you must know by the end of Y1. Good luck. Year 1 spellings Spring Week 13 JO words

Your work on our story this week has been amazing. Lots of fabulous sequencing and I am confident you all know it well. Todays task is to create your own healthy menu. Can you create a healthy breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper choice? Maybe you could even create one of your choices yourself.

Nursery Numicon Challenge

Numicon:

Numicon is a teaching aid consisting of plastic tiles with holes which represent the numbers 1 to 10. They can be used to teach place value, ordering and calculation. Numicon are designed to make numbers real for children by them being able to see and physically touch each number.

Each Numicon shape provides children with a visual image of what a number looks like. A child will start to recognise the relationship between different numbers, as each Numicon piece has an extra hole to the last one.

As you may not have access to actual Numicon resources, I have attached a copy you can use as a paper template to print and cut them out. Once you get the hang of Numicon, you can make an activity as simple or as challenging as you wish.

So for our first challenge, we would simply like you to have a little play with them. We use Numicon in nursery already so your child may surprise you!

Next week I will be posting some ‘Numicon Challenge’ activities to support you.
