Year 1 Maths – Wednesday 22nd April

Hello Year 1,

We hope you are enjoying learning how to tell the time and that you are beginning to understand how to read o’clock times. Today, we are setting you a challenge to begin to understand half past times too. As a special treat today, you are going to do your Maths learning with a little boy called Dougie – who is learning to tell the time at home, just like you! Dougie and his parents made a video that you can watch, and practise completing the challenges with a clock (this could be a real clock, toy clock or even the clock that you made in yesterday’s lesson)! 🕑🕦

Wendesday 22nd April Maths Activities

We hope you enjoy becoming a time expert – just like Dougie! 🙂

Year 1 Home Learning Wednesday 22nd April 2020

For phonics today, can you continue to use Miss Hammond’s videos to practise your flashcards. Practise your spellings and then as a little challenge, can you put these words into a sentence?

By now you will be more familiar with our story this week ‘The Enormous Turnip’. Your Literacy work for today is to interview the farmer who planted the turnip seeds. His day turned out very extraordinary, when he discovered his vegetable had grown so large and he needed all that help to pull it out the ground!

Can you think of questions you would like to ask the Farmer? For example, I would love to know ‘How many bowls of soup did your wife make out of such an enormous turnip?’

We learnt about questions in school a few weeks ago, so don’t forget to finish your question with a question mark and keep practising your neatest cursive handwriting. We would love to see your questions to the farmer on the blog.

Year 2 Home Learning – Wednesday 22nd April

Hello Year 2!

Here are some activities for you to complete this sunny Wednesday 🌞🌞🌞

Spellings – Today use this week’s spellings (adding s to words ending in y) to play the dice game.  If you don’t have a dice at home then you could pick the numbers from a hat instead.

Literacy – On Purple Mash you will find today’s activity in your 2do section.  It is called Powerful Alien Words.  You need to write interesting sentences to match the pictures of the aliens.  Try to use adjectives, adverbs and conjunctions in your writing.  You could also use the paint tools to draw your own picture of an alien to describe!  👽🛸👾

Maths – We are moving onto Measures now in Maths, starting with measuring length in centimetres.  You can find the video you need here:

And the worksheet to be completed here:

Afternoon activities – Art

We are really enjoying seeing your artwork this week and it seems that you are enjoying completing the activities too! Please choose another idea from the art sheet which you have not tried yet this week.

Thank you for working hard Year 2 and for sharing your work with us – we are very proud of you all!

Keep smiling 😊

Miss Newport and Miss Jones

Tuesday phonics challenge

I hope that you and your child enjoyed yesterday’s phonics challenge.

When we have our letters and sounds time in nursery we spend part of that time learning the actions for each letter sound and write some of them on a daily basis.  Your challenge today is to look at the fantastic resources posted on April 20th by Mrs Giordano on the website that show the correct formation for each letter and how to do the accompanying action.  I would then like you to encourage your child to write their name looking carefully at each letter.  If they are very confident please help them to write their surname too.  Of course, if they are really enjoying this they could write other names within the family.  Do let us know how they get on by sending in photographs on evidence me.  Have fun and happy writing!

Year 1 Guided Reading – Tuesday 21st and Wednesday 22nd April

Just like before the Easter break, we will set some Guided Reading work for you to have a go at, at home. Sometimes these activities may take a little bit of time, so please don’t feel like you have to rush or complete them all – the most important thing is that you enjoy listening to and sharing some lovely stories at home! We will send out Guided Reading work twice a week, so you will always have a couple of days to listen to the story, talk about it and maybe have a go at some of the questions and activities. 🙂 📚

For today’s activity, you have two dinosaur stories to listen to! The first one is an e-book, which can be listening to on Youtube, or here:

Year 1 Maths – Tuesday 21st April

Hello Year 1,

We hope that you all enjoyed starting to tell the time yesterday. Today, your job is to recap on yesterday’s learning then build your very own clock! You can practise making o’clock times with your clock and use it to play a game of What’s the time Mr Wolf? You may also like to print or create your own clock cards to play a game of O’clock Snap!

Keep the clocks that you make so that we can use them again later this week!

Year 1 Home Learning Tuesday 21st April 2020

I hope you enjoyed your learning on Monday. I noticed lots of fantastic art creations. Also some great puppet performances of our new story this week.

We are continuing with our ‘The Enormous Turnip’ work this week, with a focus on remembering familiar and repetitive stories.

Can you read it again today  – this time encourage your child to recite as much of it as possible by themselves. Then can you order the story in the correct sequence? You can do this by cutting out and sticking the sequencing pictures attached. Or you make your own by simply drawing a grid on a piece of paper and your child could draw their own lovely pictures in order themselves. You could try to label what is happening in each picture.

Also, look out for an Enormous Turnip themed jigsaw on your PurpleMash 2do.

Finally, for phonics today please continue to practise this week’s spellings. Here is a game you could use or copy for fun too.

Keep an eye out for Miss Hammond’s great phonics video’s too. Well done everyone.
