Year 1 Home Learning Thursday 23rd April 2020

Hello,

Your learning today is to watch Miss Hammond’s video and practise the flashcards along with her. Then can you practise your final ‘ing’ game for this week before the test tomorrow! This is a slightly different game to the game I posted the other day. It states it is for 3 players but will work just fine for 2 as long as an adult is helping.

For Literacy today I would like you to pretend to be the Farmer who planted the Enormous turnip! Yesterday you wrote questions to the farmer, so you know what a shock it was for him to discover that his vegetable had grown so huge. Perhaps your family could interview you pretending to be the farmer to get you into character. Then could you write a diary entry as if you are the farmer? (We looked at how to write diaries when we learnt about the Great Fire of London back in school.) Can you include what you felt like as you describe the events of your day?

You can do this straight onto paper and post to the blog, or you could type it if you would prefer using our blank diary template posted in your 2do’s on PurpleMash. I can’t wait to read your writing.

E-Safety – ThinkUKnow Home Learning

ThinkUKnow is a fantastic website we use in school to help teach the children about online safety.  They have made some great home activities to provide parents with the support and resources needed to teach their children about online safety at home.

Each activity is designed to take 15minutes and includes videos for the children to watch and discuss.  You can find everything you will need here: (please select the correct page for your child’s age group)

Children aged 4-5years

Children aged 5-7years

Children aged 8-10years

We would love to see if you complete any of these activities.  Please upload any work to the homework blogs or email them to your class teacher.

Stay safe,

Miss Newport 😊

Wednesday phonics challenge

Today I’d like you to return to “new phonics play” on the internet and select the game “reading robot”.  Select the phase 2 level.  Your child then looks at each word on the robot’s chest and tries to say each letter sound (you can of course look back at Mrs Giordano’s letter cards to help them at this point).  As they say each sound we would then get the children to pat their arm.  We encourage the children to stroke their arm next whilst saying each sound in order to blend them together, don’t worry it this sounds confusing the children should know what to do!  If they read the word correctly press the green tick if not press the red cross.  Your child will then get a score.  You could record this score and then return to this game another time, can they beat their score?

Year 1 Maths – Wednesday 22nd April

Hello Year 1,

We hope you are enjoying learning how to tell the time and that you are beginning to understand how to read o’clock times. Today, we are setting you a challenge to begin to understand half past times too. As a special treat today, you are going to do your Maths learning with a little boy called Dougie – who is learning to tell the time at home, just like you! Dougie and his parents made a video that you can watch, and practise completing the challenges with a clock (this could be a real clock, toy clock or even the clock that you made in yesterday’s lesson)! 🕑🕦

Wendesday 22nd April Maths Activities

We hope you enjoy becoming a time expert – just like Dougie! 🙂

Year 1 Home Learning Wednesday 22nd April 2020

For phonics today, can you continue to use Miss Hammond’s videos to practise your flashcards. Practise your spellings and then as a little challenge, can you put these words into a sentence?

By now you will be more familiar with our story this week ‘The Enormous Turnip’. Your Literacy work for today is to interview the farmer who planted the turnip seeds. His day turned out very extraordinary, when he discovered his vegetable had grown so large and he needed all that help to pull it out the ground!

Can you think of questions you would like to ask the Farmer? For example, I would love to know ‘How many bowls of soup did your wife make out of such an enormous turnip?’

We learnt about questions in school a few weeks ago, so don’t forget to finish your question with a question mark and keep practising your neatest cursive handwriting. We would love to see your questions to the farmer on the blog.

Year 2 Home Learning – Wednesday 22nd April

Hello Year 2!

Here are some activities for you to complete this sunny Wednesday 🌞🌞🌞

Spellings – Today use this week’s spellings (adding s to words ending in y) to play the dice game.  If you don’t have a dice at home then you could pick the numbers from a hat instead.

Literacy – On Purple Mash you will find today’s activity in your 2do section.  It is called Powerful Alien Words.  You need to write interesting sentences to match the pictures of the aliens.  Try to use adjectives, adverbs and conjunctions in your writing.  You could also use the paint tools to draw your own picture of an alien to describe!  👽🛸👾

Maths – We are moving onto Measures now in Maths, starting with measuring length in centimetres.  You can find the video you need here:

And the worksheet to be completed here:

Afternoon activities – Art

We are really enjoying seeing your artwork this week and it seems that you are enjoying completing the activities too! Please choose another idea from the art sheet which you have not tried yet this week.

Thank you for working hard Year 2 and for sharing your work with us – we are very proud of you all!

Keep smiling 😊

Miss Newport and Miss Jones
