Uno, dos, tres, let’s go !

Uno, dos, tres… let’s go !
We started the week off with our European language day, which was of course Espana ! 🇪🇸 and we loved it. The children took part in array of activities from Dancing, speaking, cooking, colouring and the piñata. 🪅

We have to give a massive thank you to Mattias Mom who worked so hard to make our Hot air balloon piñata. It was absolutely amazing ! the talent and skill in such craft 👏🏻⭐️ the children really enjoyed your visit and games with you ❤️ so again thank you.

Also a big thank you to Mr Pablos for making us our yummy Spanish treats, the children tucked right in to trying and tasting new foods. 🇪🇸

Then the rest of the week we looked at our book
‘ Aliens love underpants ‘ 👽🩲
Digesting the book into parts we extended their learning, they made a rocket in their team groups ready for the launch competition on Friday, role played Aliens stealing nursery’s underpants from our washing lines. Guessing which character has gone missing, pairing and matching underpants, and washing underpants, (all clean ones though) and seeing how long it took them to dry in the breeze. Thankfully the weather was on our side.

PE outdoors Mr Birch got them to take part in a team game of minion’s and bananas 🍌 where the minions had to tag a child with a bib, once that child was tagged they had to stand still arms up and wait until a friend could free them by peeling their arms down.
Indoor PE we used a lot of balance beams in different ways to get the children moving around using their bodies in different ways.

Feelings Friday we talked about toilet training and using the toilets in the correct way with a sequence game.

Competition winners were…… 🥁Green group and Blue group 🚀🎉👏🏻 bravo ! Such a cool rocket.

Hope you all enjoy the weekend, we look forward to seeing you Monday with next weeks book ready to jump right into ‘ Zog ‘ 🐲

Safeguarding, Health & Safety Governors Committee

Governors from the Health and Safety committee met last week. They were delighted to hear that the children from Year 3, 4 and 5 talked so confidently about E Safety and what do if they felt uncomfortable about something online.

They were reassured that the Health and Safety policy and procedure across Early Years is robust.

Governors again put a spotlight over the induction procedures and were happy that a newly appointed member of the Newdale team spoke confidently about the process and the impact it has had on her first few weeks at our school.

Governors look forward to talking to more children and staff next half term.

Whatever next 🧸🚀

Whatever next 🚀🧸
” Can I go to the moon? ” ask the Mighty Oaks children.
” No you can’t ! ” said Miss Cook
But off they went, looking for a helmet to decorate, making a sandwich for a picnic and packed their suitcases to join the other passengers on board the rocket. ‘ Whoosh ‘🚀 🌝
” Thats a smart rocket ” said Mrs Pablos
” Would you like to come too? ” the children shout !
As they Land on the moon they eat their picnic food, moon walk carefully around the craters, jumping to miss the meteorites, balancing past the rocky debris, but it was soon time to get back as Mr Birch hollers ……. ” it’s PE!👟”
Going down, down, down the children return to me.
We wrap them up and send them to the gate, as the parents gasp and say ” look at the state of you ! have you had a good day? ”
As a matter of fact they’ve got so much done, all while learning, having fun. 📚⭐️

Your children this week have really enjoyed exploring this book by role playing the scenes, learning the meaning of the vocabulary and creating their very own extended stories using their imaginations.

I can only imagine what they’ll be coming home saying after next weeks book ‘ Aliens love underpants” 👽🩲

Curriculum Governors Committee Update

The Curriculum Governors met yesterday and were super impressed with the amount of work carried out by staff and pupils in such a short space of time since the start of the term.

A selection of KS 2 SEND mathematicians came to share their books and views on how they have started the year. They all love maths and their books looked amazing!

Governors were very impressed with the amount of work completed by the new music lead since she took up this role in September. They were excited to see the impact on the children’s enjoyment linked to music.

Governors approved the equality targets for 2023-2024 and encourage parents/carers to look at this on the website.

Governors had a detailed update from the SENDco and were impressed with the action plan and future plans around parental communication linked to SEND.

Settling in Mighty Oaks

It’s been a very busy two weeks here in Mighty Oaks! 🌳
The children have been very curious and interested to explore the new and familiar experiences around them. From the role play area ‘ space rocket’ theme book ‘ what ever next ‘ to the physical and large construction outside.
In our creative areas we allowed them to experiment with a range of media tools and materials to finish the Zog display.🐲

This weeks focus learning was listening.👂
Where we have listened to our friends stories of their holidays and showing their special toys. ⭐️
The circle time was a great time in our small groups to explore sounds, in a listening activity and walk around the school.
They all enjoyed taking part in action songs by moving, singing and dancing while making sounds with the musical instruments.🎶

In adult lead learning time we’ve been looking at where the children are towards learning and achieving Autumn milestone🍁
Maths focus 🧮was the value of number 1 and touch counting up to 10. Literacy focus 📚was looking at books and talking about them.

Indoor and outdoor PE sessions got off to a great start !
Children really enjoyed this time to move around and negotiate space, by running, jumping, climbing, throwing, and so much more. We have some pretty impressive movers especially in ball control. 🤸🏽

Next week we are Looking at the story ‘ whatever next ‘ in depth to learn new vocabulary and recall a four part sequence of the book, and it’s characters, it’s important they learn a structure of beginning, middle and end to widen their own vocabulary and skills in story telling. 🧸🚀

Cooking/ forest sessions will begin on Tuesday please bring wellies. Cooking we are taking part of the theme book where the bear makes his own sandwiches for his trip to the moon and learning where our ingredients come from.
In the forest area children will be given this opportunity to explore the great outdoors. Sounds like fun ! 🧑🏾‍🍳🌲
