Scarlett Fever

Dear Parents/Carers,

Scarlet Fever

We are starting to see cases of scarlet fever again in Telford schools, so we are issuing some advice from the Health Protection Hub.

What is really important to prevent scarlet fever potentially turning from a mild illness to something life-threatening, is early diagnosis and treatment.  Therefore, it is important that we make parents aware of the signs and symptoms.

Signs and symptoms of scarlet fever

The early symptoms of scarlet fever include sore throat, headache, fever, nausea and vomiting. After 12 to 48 hours the characteristic red, pinhead rash develops, typically first appearing on the chest and stomach, then rapidly spreading to other parts of the body, and giving the skin a sandpaper-like texture. The scarlet rash may be harder to spot on darker skin, although the ‘sandpaper’ feel should be present. Patients typically have flushed cheeks and pallor around the mouth. This may be accompanied by a ‘strawberry tongue’. As the child improves peeling of the skin can occur.

NHS information, including photos of the condition, is available here: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/scarlet-fever/

Single cases should be advised to seek advice from their GP.

If you could let us know if you have a confirmed diagnosis of Scarlett Fever, as this will allow us to put in additional measures in setting.

Kind regards,

Miss Cook

Headteacher

Photo policy

It’s coming up to that time of the year again when parents and carers will be invited into school to attend Christmas events. In line with our safeguarding policy, please can we politely remind parents to avoid taking pictures and videos of other children and uploading them onto social media.

Thank you

Lest we forget 🌺 and Owl babies week

Mighty Oaks children have really liked reading this weeks book ‘ owl babies ‘
They made their very own owl pictures using sponge printing, tissue paper, feathers and wood that have been put on our walls for displays.
In the woods they made owls using leaves and other natural resources and went on a hunt for sticks, sorting them according to size and made a big and little nest. Hidden along the way they had to look for the owl teddies high up in the trees.
Between friends some read the story from memory using the visuals, whilst another friend acted it out, flying, swooping and flapping our wings. 🪶🪵

Exploring the art piece of Wassily Kandinsky’s Circles in a Circle and Stained in Triangle, they talked about the shapes they could find, name and relate the shapes to every day objects. Some wonderful ideas and creative minds shinned as they begun their very own master pieces, fitting as Kandinsky thought Circles were a Symbol of Progress and Renewal. 🔵🔺🟪

Cooking club we talked about the weekend just gone being bonfire night and if any had seen fireworks. Then we made a very own sparklers using bread sticks, chocolate and sprinkles. 🎆🎇

PE indoors had a verity of games to play all retaliating back to the book. From starting off in the very own nest sleeping in the sunlight and waking up when the moon came out swooping high and low before they landed onto their branches for a little rest, and they throwing shooting stars onto a branch. 🪹🪶🪺
PE outdoors was a revisit back to the game of minions and bananas 🍌

And least we shall not forget an educational video was shown as we talked about Remembrance Day and why we wear poppies. The children proudly stood holding their huge poppy and wreath just like the people on the news. Using Makaton actions for the words, flower, poppy and soldier. 🌺

Next week we will be celebrating Diwali 🪔
