Extra Information for Reception Parents and Carers

Hi everyone. It was really lovely to see some of you today on our first Google Meet . I really enjoyed hearing about your lovely new toys.

Spellings will now be issued on a Monday and tested the following Monday. Your children will be issued with their new spellings on Monday 11th January.

For those of you who are reading at home you are very welcome to share your reading with us on the Evidence Me app. We would love to see how you are getting on. As you may have already read your school book, I will attach information on where you can access a range of Oxford Owl EBooks that are relevant to your child’s reading ability.

For those children who are in school :

Forest School will continue on a Monday afternoon. However children are now able to come in wearing their Forest School clothes.

Reading diaries have been collected in today and will not be handed out again until Monday. From then on reading diaries will be collected in every Friday and handed out again every Monday until further notice. This is to reduce risk of transmitting the virus. Therefore children will not require their book bags on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Many thanks for all you cooperation and support. We love seeing all of your hard work at home and really appreciate that you are sharing it with us.

Many thanks. The Reception Team

Update 05.01.2021

Dear Parents/Carers,

We are delighted that our efforts to open today paid off with key worker children back in school loving learning. Staff also worked tremendously hard in making sure the online learning offer is as good as it can possibly be.

It is really important that both staff and parents do all they can to keep children engaged and learning. Staff are aware of the fact that many parents will be ‘home working’ and hence not have as much time as they would like or need to support children. Teachers are trying to make the learning as clear as they can to children in the hope they can manage to get on without the need for too much adult help whilst ensuring a quality provision.

We are keeping our Breakfast and After School Club open to support critical workers but have decided to postpone some clubs until a later date e.g. Crossbar clubs.

We have been inundated with requests for school places and this is becoming a real challenge to us due to teacher capacity and space. Ultimately, schools have closed to limit the potential to spread the virus. We are already close to our maximum capacity to operate safely. We do ask that you only request places if you are a Critical Key worker and that you have no other option in keeping your children at home. We are going to look at whether there are ways we can increase any capacity but in the end we will need to cap numbers and move forward in a safe way for everyone. We really hope you can support us in this.

The new booking form will be coming out soon please keep an eye out for it.

Kind regards

Miss Cook

Reception Google Meet 10:45am

Morning Reception,

We hope you have managed to access your new Google Classroom and the work set in there for today. Please do let us know if you have any issues and we will try to help.

At 10:45 we will have our first Google Meeting.

To access this please log in to your google classroom. Once logged in,  enter Miss Hailey, Mrs Evans and Mrs Sturrock’s virtual room that looks like this:

When in the classroom you can join by clicking the meet link at the given time, found in the green box under the classroom name:

When you have joined, please make sure your mute button is on to avoid echoing and also to take turns to speak. You can do this by raising your hand (just like you would in class) using the hand button at the bottom of the screen.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

The Reception Team.

Update 5.01.21

Good morning,

Many staff working in our school have children of their own and therefore can completely sympathise with you this morning. We know that the last minute decision by the Government will undoubtedly cause mass disruption on so many levels. Many schools have closed their doors today in order to plan for the forthcoming weeks. We worked very late into the night in order to be able to at least allow some of our critical, key workers access to school places for their children, so that they can go to work to support us all. As you know, it is so important that everyone supports each other over this difficult time.

We understand that some people may have missed the communication that we sent more or less immediately after the announcement last night and we will look at what further we can offer later on today after we have processed the applications we have already received.

Please help us by not turning up for school if you are in anyway unsure as to if your child qualifies for a place. We are only able to accept certain children as per the guidance and only children that we have received a form from at this point. A ‘lock down’ is a ‘lock down’, and we need to only have children in school whose parents really do qualify as key workers please. Please also only take up the place if you really need it e.g. shift work patterns may mean you can in fact safely keep you child at home. Please do not be offended if we ask for proof of key worker status and even ask for shift patterns so that we can plan accordingly.

School staff will be contacting parents of children who we believe qualify for places who have not yet been in touch. Please wait for communication from school and access the online learning offer for your child today.

If you are struggling with accessing the online offer, please contact either the office or your child’s teacher through their email contact.

Again, thank you for all of your support.

Reception Home Learning Spring 1

Hello Reception children and parents,

We were really excited about meeting in person today, but unfortunately for most we will have to wait a little longer now just to make sure we can be as safe as possible. A few weeks ago we stuck a ‘Google Classroom’ slip in your reading diary, with login details for the eventuality of a school closure and to access online learning. This morning, we will upload some work onto Google Classroom for you to have a go at, at home. It may seem tricky at first as most new things are (including for us teachers!) but it really will be easy to use after a little practise. Tomorrow we will share some phonics work, Literacy, along with some other tasks you can complete. Any super work you do, you can share with us via  photograph on the EvidenceMe app.

We will be holding a short practise live Google Meet this morning at 10:45 to say hello and share a storytime with you. We will send an invite for this (which will go to the email address you signed up with) to accept the invite. You will then be able to access the meeting through the Google Classroom calendar. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible to say hello and still be able to see our friends.

We will continue to send any information out via the school website and you can contact the Reception teachers and teaching assistants on our Year group email address, where we will get back to you as soon as possible: Newdale.YearRTeam.taw.org.uk

Thank you for all your support.

The Reception Team.

Reception Information for Tuesday Return

Unfortunately due to current circumstances, we are going to postpone our show and tell session for tomorrow. Children will not be required to bring in a toy from home. However, we will still have time to share and discuss their favourite toy and listen all about their Christmas.

If you would like to, it would be wonderful if you could send us a photograph of your child with their favourite toy via the EvidenceMe app, then we can still share this as a show and tell on the screen in class. Alternatively, you could email us your photograph using the Reception Year group email newdale.yearrteam@taw.org.which we can then share with the class on the screen too.

Many thanks,

Reception Team.

Welcome Back Reception

Happy New Year Reception!

We hope you had a lovely break over the holiday period and enjoyed the festivities. We are looking forward to seeing you soon and hearing all about it.

A reminder that Reception PE days and Forest school sessions remain unchanged for this term.

Tuesday – Outdoor PE, Thursday – Indoor PE. Children can come to school wearing kits on those days. Ensure they wear warm kits, even on indoor days as children will be going out at play and lunch times and throughout the day in our outside area.

Forest School sessions – Monday afternoon. Children need to bring in warm and waterproof clothing to change into for these sessions, along with a pair of wellington boots.

See you tomorrow.
